In my experience, Cincinnati is only REALLY fun if you're in a Catholic high school or if you are college aged. Beyond that, it's pretty bleak. The public schools are some of the worst in the country and therefore most people who aren't in priavate schools are in poverty, and as an adult, it's not easy to make it in Cincy unless you've got some rich ties.

The Greater Cincy area is awesome though. SO MANY different suburbs and cultures, it's unreal. But BEWARE: the east side SUCKS!

Cincy isn't "too conservative" i don't even know if that's possible. I also don't know how being "too conservative" and "stepping into the 21st Century" are linked... Somehow this person thinks that liberalism is more advanced? The city doesn't need an NBA team. Cincy is a baseball/football town, our high school sports are baseball/football focused. Cincy has great sports, amazing museums, great zoo, etc. I don't drink so can't speak to the bars etc, though most people go to Newport.

Cincy hit its peak sometime in the 80's/early 90's...Then jobs left, racial crap started blowing up again, etc. I still remember a Cincy with night life that was safe to walk in, had AMAZING food, friendly people, a variety of accents that made it feel so integrated, and a suburban outlay that was racially diverse and harmonious. So what has happened in the last ten years? I hope it recovers. Sick of hearing hipsters insulting yuppies, black/white, Westside/Eastside hatred, etc.

there are hidden cultural sites all over the place, seriously. sometimes it's like alice and wonderland when you discover something awesome, because everybody's telling you these places don't exist in Cincinnati, but they do. jazz, folk, bluegrass, rock, hipster stuff, really, every kind of music. i think the fear of the "ghettos" is exaggerated. just watch your stuff, and don't piss people off! like any city I'm sure. this isn't a paradise, but it's really cool

It was very interesting, because we went into a building that used to be a German Tanzenhaus (Dancing house) in the 1800s when "Over the Rhine" wasn't synonymous with 'bad part of town.' It's also pretty interesting that some companies are trying to bring back the German beauty of the area by refurbishing some of the run-down buildings.

Have you ever been to Detroit? Pay a visit and you'll have a different idea of Cincinnati. The D's roads are horrible, there's litter and graffiti everywhere, and there is no Hyde Park or Mt Lookout within that city. Also there are probably more abandoned buildings in Detroit than anywhere.

I have lived in Chicago, California, New York, and elsewhere and am about to move back to cincinnati. 95% of the people i have met in these other cities have a way better impression of Cincinnati than most of the people in Cincinnati. So many people who live there or who have lived there know nothing about it and dont give it a chance. it is a great place with all the elements of a great big city. People need to explore it and realize that it is a truly a good place to live and visit.
