  • could you please do a lesson the solo for bible black by heaven and hell. Which is pretty much black sabbath

  • @zztoprules1 Yes I agree with you. I will definitely do Bible Black solo. I am very backed up but I certainly intend to this one.

  • That's really awesome!!

  • could u possibly do the second solo to this? oh yh i find your lessons really useful

  • doctor nerve is schooling for sure, awesome job

  • I've always admired your Sabbath lessons. They are the cleanest and most comprehensive on youtube, by far.

I'm planning on recording a full song lesson for NIB, including the solos. But the only difference is that I'll be covering the Primus and Ozzy version instead of the original, which varies slightly in its lead parts. For those looking to stick to the original leads, I wanted to direct them via link to your video if thats OK with you. Let me know if you object : )

  • @TheGoldenChile Beautiful! Thanks for the good words and of course linking is great. Good luck with your lesson and rock on.

  • You have excellent Sabbath lessons sir!

  • plz help me i m not getting the right iming for the fast hammer on and pull off at 10

    & 9 fret

  • Are you sure you're really not Tony Iommi in a very realistic and clever disguise?

  • best cover ever? :o i loved it

  • amazing execution and teaching thank you! your videos are great!

  • Do you have a website for the full tab to this song instead of just the solo? Every tab i play for the ryhtym sections and then try to use this solo it sounds out of key.Either way thanks for this vid and tab link.I know your solo is correct but all the other tabs ive found for this song show it at the 7th fret on the d string.Id like to find a correct version of the full song.

  • @LuckyThirteen08 Thanks for the nice words. Sorry I only focus on solos. But I hear you.

  • @LuckyThirteen08 The main riff is on the E and A strings like war pigs is

  • Do you have a website for the full tab to this song instead of just the solo? Every tab i play for the ryhtym sections and then try to use this solo it sounds out of key.Either way thanks for this vid and tab link.

  • En verdad, ¡TE PASASTE! gracias.

  • Amazing!

  • your videos are great, thank you

  • clearly the most informative and clear & concise teaching I have ever seen.

  • I was very helpful video thanks!

  • Awesomely in depth, nice playing/teaching!

  • Man, you rock! Black Sabbath is my life. Only with Ozzy though. Haha Keep putting more on here please!

  • Ive only been playing for 1 year. Do you think i should be able to do some of it by now. I can only do some of it.

  • @DrDocter9 same same :)

  • This is the first solo, correct? If so, could you please make a tab and/or lesson for the second solo?

  • you are badass dude

  • You teach with extreme clarity A++++!

  • what tuning is this?

  • @mobby32 standard tuning

  • Thanks man your lessons help my playing keep up the top lessons

  • Thank you very much. A lot of guitar lessons on here are a little too rushed, but you take it one lick at a time and make it easy to understand. I'll make sure to remember you if there's any other Sabbath tunes I get stuck on.

  • AAA,valeu cara S2

  • nice guitar

  • THIS is a real lesson! Thanks a lot, I'm going to learn a lot of Sabbath :)

  • Nice tone and playing, is that an SG Classic? You can't get them over here. Really enjoyed the vid.

  • @mattchurchill It's a 1967 SG Special. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • have you ever done any instructions for buckethead? the way you teach is quite nice

  • @lottavernix thanks! Pretty much just sticking to Sabbath....

  • @doctornerve Sabbath is pretty much sticking to me too. For someone who wants to play the metal, why learn anything else? Thanks for your videos!

  • thank you!your lesson is perfect!!

  • wow!this lesson is amazing!thanks a lot!!!

  • Thanks, you are perfect as usual!!!

  • @brimone1982 Very nice of you. Thanks and rock on

  • could u do a follow up lesson on measure 18 at 6:23, i cant quite get it

  • hello, (I speak Spanish and I'm not very good at writing in English) could you give me the page where the tabs come written please

  • @OLBAPOLOS See 00:01

  • Comment removed

  • I have some difficult in the faster parts

  • u r sooo damn good!!! I am Sooooo jealouss!!!!!! AHH

  • YOU! ARE! GOD!

  • @KnightWolf214 Why thank-you!

  • @doctornerve how long did it take u to perfect these solo's ?

  • From 00:50 to 00:53 you do the 15, 12, 12, 15 sixteenth notes and your first finger stays always on E and B string on 12 - how u do it that if you play e string, b string and than again e string that only one string is hearable?

  • @warismoney whoah - good question; one I had to pick up my guitar in order to answer because I couldn't have told you otherwise. I up-pick the 15th fret on the E-string. When I do, the skin of my thumb barely brushes the B string, killing it. When I down-pick the 12th fret of the B string, the skin of my first finger (right below the nail) barely brushes the E-string, killing it. It's subtle but it works reliably. I realize now I've been doing it unconsciously.

  • @doctornerve Thank you very much! I will practice that technique today, its all about killing the other string with the hand you grab the notes, i think this will need some time to get perfect, but its usefull in a few different situations! Thanks for your fast reply!

  • @warismoney well thanks for asking. I didn't fully realize I was doing it. I deaden the string with the picking hand (not the fretting hand)

  • Doc. You are a real Gem!

Many thanks for all your vids!

  • great teaching...thanks

  • can you teach killing yourself to live solo?

  • Thanks for transcribing a tab as well

  • Nice videos, i love that gibson.

    Thx for the lesson.

  • Very impressive with both playing and teaching

  • please do this for the wizard!

  • dude ur awesome

  • I love your sg. I wish i had a nice gibson sg.

  • Great lesson. Very understandable and well played. Thank you very much.

  • can you teach faries wear boots?

  • @brandonlarose Love that piece fiercely. Will seriously consider it.

  • Thanks man, really helped alot. My band's covering this. I got the solo ;) I'll send you the link when we put it up, I'd like your thoughts :D

    Thanks again.

  • @kirk45hammett Very cool. Most rewarding part of all this is when I see someone post a video from one of my lessons. Rock on

  • thanks :D

  • @djerwulfe haha - well said. Thanks very much. This means a lot.

  • @djerwulfe yikes! You sure about that!?!? nice comment, though - well meant I am sure. Rock on

  • thank you so much for posting that...every body else had the solo wrong and my band is coverin this.....i was listening to the song and i could tell that the solo i was lookin at was wrong...but you hit it spot on thanks again

  • @13RGaun You are very welcome. It's a deceptively tricky solo - the phrasing is very special and it's tempting to play it merely 'sort of right'. So I am glad you are going to nail it!

You must be pumped to be in a band that covers early Sabbath. Rock on

  • I had no clue P90 pickups could do such a thick sound like that, I always thought since they were single coil they would have a weaker sound. That SG did a great job replicating the sound of Tony's guitar. Is the guitar itself mostly responsible for that tone or is it more your amp and recording software?

The reason I would like to know is that those SG's are considerably cheaper than the Humbucker equipped SG's around here, and I'm wondering if the P90 equipped ones will sound just as good

  • @MrMoustaffa For the first 10 years of Sabbath, Tony had P-90 in the bridge position and a John Birch Superflux in the neck position. The P90 has a fat mean sound with the high end you'd expect from a single coil. Not the best match for a modern high gain amp, though.

The tone is a complex mix of the wood, the pickup, the box, and the amp. I did not do any post-production on the recording.

You might check out P-Rails by Seymour Duncan which combine a strat, humbucker, and P90 in one pickup

  • @doctornerve thats actually what I'm looking for. I play mostly hard rock and early metal (like Sabbath and the sort). I'm a rythm guitarist in my band so a fat heavy sound is exactly the sort of thing I need. I play with relatively low gain (for metal) on older amps, so I imagine it would match up well with my sound.

I've seen a guitar much like yours for $800 in a local guitar shop, and after hearing this will deffinitely be trying it out soon. I need a good gibson anyways

  • @MrMoustaffa You might find that an SG with P90's is a good match for you! Stay in touch

  • Thank you very much for your teachings, I do appreciate it a lot.

  • Very expressive and good technique. Thanks for your lessons.

  • Great lesson, love your added insight and interpretation of the piece.Best of luck .

  • @Frankenfukstein Very much appreciated. Thank-you sincerely.

  • @doctornerve thank you for all your helpful lessons and i would appreciate it if you would teach the solo to heaven and hell

  • nice playing keep it up

  • men you rocks

this solo is one of the best things i never heard in my life

  • it isn't pronounced n i b, its pronounced nib (cuz it was either Geezer od Bill who had a beard that looked like the nib of a pen)

  • @CurtisAlfeld true story about the pen nib (and typical of the humor in that band), but both Ozzy and later Ronnie would introduce the tune in concert by spelling out the letters.

  • is that an sg faded or standard usa

  • You sound like Tony Iommi guitar, it is amazing. I'm a guitar player and I will study your lessons. Thank you, also your Spanish is excellent!!

  • @Supernaut70 Thanks very much. My Spanish is only as good as Google Translate (!)

  • you should cover war pigs. the LUKES WALL solo!!!!!! that would be great. please do that. YOU ARE THE ULTIMATE SABBATH COVER/LESSON GUITARIST ON YOUTUBE!!!!!!!

  • This all makes me go back to a Magical Time..........Yeap as a little kid and playing through a fendertube and seeing people "Just Line my front yard " and hearing me a little a kid play this !! They would run to my house to listen !!~~ Yeap Yeap !!The Police would come too... They could hear me miles aways they said " What a Magical Time !!! thank you !!~~~~

  • thanks so much i got the acrobat thing and all the tabs are badass

  • Want to send new video lessons?

    Very good lessons didkovsky.

Where can I download the CDs of your band? I can't find here in Brazil, only managed a music.

  • @cleytonmetal92 Thanks! Yes I'd like to put up new lessons soon, but am very busy right now. You can get Doctor Nerve CD's off iTunes Music Store or Amazon. Rock on and thanks for your support!

  • what the fuck when i try to download the tabs it dont work can you get me them some how because your so accurate and the tabs i find are bullcrap

  • @FreakForBlackSabbath You need Acrobat Reader which is a free download from Adobe. Good luck

  • you just earned a sub! keep on rockin

  • Great! thanks for the help man...

  • what about the second solo??

is it the same as the first one??

  • @culau3 It is different, but I probably will not cover it.

  • This is pretty awesome man thanks, for tabbing it perfectly right to!

  • WOW!!!

  • isnt this tuned down a half step?

  • no this is standard tuning. thanks

  • you really know your stuff...

    almost too well...

i love how you are just ridiculously professional.

if only there were people giving lessons as great as this for other bands too.

really, really, keep it up. just awesome.

  • @SeanTheReptileGuru

Ha, thanks. I am chuckling at the 'almost too well' part. No worries I got my own bands going, my own direction. My hope is people will get inside these solos and absorb whatever they found inspiring about them into their own thing.

  • oh trust me, i know about doctor nerve (the band)

and actually i've been meaning to ask you where you purchased a robot to play keyboard lol.

and just now from watching that again i realized your 10 year old son came up with that title. THAT is funny. clever.

    maybe too clever...

    haha

  • great stuff man, you should do some sabbath lessons from their more underrated albums like sabotage, technical ecstasy, and never say die! Keep up the great videos!!!!

  • Great lesson man you should do the solo from "behind the wall of sleep"

  • @Imhellofdinosaur

    I love that tune!

  • thanks to you, Nick, I've learned the solos from my favorite songs, from my favorite band (sabbath)

    and your band is awsome!

    keep it up!

  • great mate form a band kkkk

im sure id listen to it

  • Thanks. Check out my band's YouTube videos, Trash and If You Were Me Right Now I'd Be Dead

  • This is an excellent lesson! You actually explain things which help us understand what he did and why!

    Thank you!

  • @rubiconuk1981

Real nice comment, thanks a lot.

    Rock on

  • What Equipment and What is your guitar tuned to and what do you have your amp on .I have a Laney GC60A and A Fender Strat and it sounds nothing like it.

  • @TrueSouthernPride

Thanks for watching. Equipment listed at end of video. Can't remember the settings, but in any case, gotta dial it in by ear.

  • @TrueSouthernPride

I have not heard your particular amp model, but the Laney GC60A sounds like it can give you a really clean signal that would welcome pedals. Couple boxes you might want to check include the MXR M-116 FullBore Metal or the older (and less over-the-top) Krank Distortus Maximus. I'd give the MXR a try, and in general, use less gain than one might think, to get the warm chunky vintage Iommi tone.

  • are you ever going to do a war pigs solo instructional?

that would be amazing. especially the luke's wall ending solo.

  • Yes, first solo definitely. Thanks and rock on.

  • Great video! really easy to fallow and gd explaining! Altough it´s not quite the way Tony plays it he start of at the 5th fret on the G-string but your way is a bit easier in my opinion. Would be really nice to see u post the "Neon Knights" solo which is the best solo in the history of metal :P

  • @widafa

Thanks! And yes you're right about the position. Playing it higher up the neck on thicker strings gets you more chunk, lower on the neck on thinner strings gets more cut. Select to taste!

  • thank you so much from italy!! you are the best online teacher!! but please could write the tabs of the last solo, for i have some difficulties playing it?

  • man it' a mess......... i made almost 3 and a half hours to configure this things u play.........although it's a good vid.... cause its the only one that shows nib guitar solo..

  • sabbath rules

  • righteously so

  • tanks from brazil men

  • and u resemble my most favris bass player !

    SIR roger waters !

  • thats what i said

  • that was REALLY REALLY REALLY helpful !

jeez ! i wish u were here in India, i would definately be honored to be under your training ! cuz the way u explain each and every single note and bar is simply amazing !

    SUBSCRIBED and 5/5

  • Great lesson, sweet axe.

    You > Tab

    Thanks, doctornerve.

  • awsome video, you are the mest teacher online I have ever seen. In fact i am know desperate for i cant find anybody online with your same skills. Does somebody have any suggestions??

  • Anything by Andy Aledort is truly excellent

  • great, love your guitar's tone, it's pretty close to Tony's one, but the tone he has on Paranoid is priceless.

  • Planet Caravan solo lesson? Really though I'll get stoked at whatever Sabbath related lessons I see go up lol. Good work thanks for the walk through. And thanks for the tabs and backing track also.

  • lol...wow!

  • my band play a cover of this but i learnt the primus cover and solo, i like the primus cover better than the original anyways

  • lord of this world would be an awesome track to put on u should do it

  • Do you know what would be cool? Some tracks from master of reality (into the void, lord of this world)

  • Truly... into the Void is incredible. Will give it serious consideration, thanks.

  • this solo is beautiful,nice lesson!thanks

  • YEAH

  • Awsome, good job man

  • Thanks very much, I appreciate it. Rock on.

  • man im so pumped, i cant wait til your new video.

  • Hi I'm mexican and i love black sabbath but im amateur please can you help me how to play snowblind good?

  • is the metal zone pedal good for getting tones like these???

  • Sorry I have not played the MT-2 pedal myself.

  • Snowblind is really nice tune, really slow and melodic solo.Love it ;)

  • Do you know when the next video might be?

btw im listening to fairies wear boots now the song flat out jams

  • Getting in the mood to do a new one soon... thanks for your patience and thanks for checking in.

Yeah, Fairies Wear Boots is incredible.

    Rock on

  • Fantastic lessons. Thanks for all the effort. If you are compiling a request list, I'd love to see the Evil Woman solo. =-)

  • Thanks for commenting and for the request. Evil Woman! Now there's a request you can be proud of. Pretty obscure. Could be fun. Lemme see.

  • I figured it fit in with the rest of your lessons. The verse and chorus are fairly easy for beginners, it's not too long and the solo seems pretty straightforward.

Most importantly -- it rocks! =-)

  • ...at first I thought you meant Lady Evil, but then I sort of went 'hold it, this dude knows his early Sabbath'

  • Oh awesome vibrato...:)

  • very fuckin great!!

can u play the hey pixies solo?

  • thanks!

I'm sticking to Sabbath for the foreseeable future.

  • I love Sabbath's songs!!

Tony Iommi is the best... and you too!!

    :)

  • Very thorough

    Much respect dude

  • hey doctornerve seen as you are the ultimate tony iommi solo teacher could you post a vid for the war pigs solo both chanels it's one of my favorites. I,ve tried to improvise it with the Eminor scale down at the 12th position but its just not good enought to get the full experience of the solo so please can you do his solo your the best on youtube no one else has got a decent lesson on how to do it.
