I just hope you don't think a safety or linebacker will cover the flat on the "smash" route when the corner vacates his zone... Also blows outside contain cb has if qb is smart enough to scramble out of the pocket and run up the field for a free 10+ yards.

he sprints deep because in that defense either the outside LB or nickel corner covers that smash route and then the outside corner's responsibility is #2

@ibtnm25 he would leave the smash route alone first because cover 2 is designed to give the offense routes underneath the defense. smash routes are the offenses way of trying to beat cover 2 by distracting the corner with a hitch or something like that while bringing a receiver behind in that gap between the corner and the safety. i hope this helps
