I LOVE the old Testament albums (The Legacy to Souls of Black) and The Gathering and The Formation of Damnation are fkn great too! The Ritual and Low for me were somewhat kind of mediocre. Demonic only had about two songs that I liked. It's not that it was death metal, I love dm, but the song writing was simply not on top. Testament in whole is one of my favorite bands anyway.

@SpiritualFraud I would say that Exodus dipped a lot, in various ways, but Exhibition B is the best Exodus album since Tempo. Kreator I wouldn't say had a dip, they changed style, not to a sound that I really like, but was no more mainstream, perhaps even less so. They just needed to have time to evolve as musicians. The recent 3 albums prove that it worked.

But Testament has been perpetual awesomeness, seeing them next month.

I saw them in 1990 at the California Theater in San Diego. They played with Dark Angel, Savatage, and Sacred Reich. That place only holds about 2000 people, it was fucking insane. I still have my ticket stub. One of the greatest metal bands of all time!

I think it comes down to which bass players are passionate about their playing are the ones who crank it up. You always hear Greg's bass in Testament, Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, Frank Bello of Anthrax and D.D. Verni of Overkill to name a few. I think they go out of their way to make sure you hear the bass during shows and on recordings.
