Her dad, Alan gets a new well paying job in Washington, so Maria moves with him to America at the end of The Last Sontaran Part 2. They contact Maria and Alan later in the Series for research and tracking assistance, via Webcam, in the episode; The Mark of the Beserker Part 2.
