i'm sure you guys know this, but Lou Christie did an exemplary version of this with fuzz guitar and baritone sax, it sounds amazing!! from about 1964 with bert berns producing
I agree. They were short on releases (at least in the 60s) but not short on talent. They did some great stuff later on as well. I'm sure a good amount of it is posted all over Youtube
6 records? I only knew of three... This one, The World's Biggest Fool on Musictone and a Denise Germaine 45 on AKU that they did backup for. There was also a Del Monacos group but I don't think they had any relation to this group. This group did a lot of records in the 70s and 80s, but those are acapella records. If there are others I don't know about please let me know.
I believe both sides of this and their Musictone 45 were released on a cd called The Best Of Musictone Records.
PJ, I misspoke, I meant 6 sides. When I wrote that request I didn't realize that 2 of the AKU sides were as a back-up group. I appreciate your help and I'm sure that you'll get other strange requests from me in the future. Feel free to correct me when I'm wrong, that's how we learn. Thanks again, keep up the good work.
The guy advertises at the end of Jerry Osborne's record price guide. I don't have the book in front of me but when I get home I will shoot the information over to you.
Very cool juke. If you ever do find a copy of this I wouldn't suggest throwing it in a juke.. It's a styrene pressing which wears out very quickly in jukes (and in general).. Jukes also scuff the records when they're being slided in and out of the holding mechanism. At $200 for a mint copy it would not be an idea situation. However, there's a guy in the midwest that'll press you a 45 if you send him an mp3 or cd. I think he charges $40
They made 2 45s in the early 60s that I know of.. You Can Call / There They Go on AKU and The World's Biggest Fool / Until You on the Musictone label. Both are very rare 45s but I think the AKU 45 is the rarer of the two. The Delmonicos put out tons of quality material in the 80s and 90s, primarily a capella stuff. Yes, their harmony is fantastic.
He really is a phenominal lead. I saw them in the early 90s and he still sounded exactly like this. It's a shame they only did two 45s...... Terrific material.
Sorrry great bari sax on lous version but not fuzz guitar i got mixed up with" you may be holding my baby"

patrickb5197 2 years ago
Two different groups. The Jarmels are from Richmond, Va and The Delmonicos are a NYC group

@patrickb5197 Jarmels are black, Delmonicos are white.

Love this sound. Wish I had the 45 to put in my jukebox. Its an AMI/Rowe with all the chrome and bubbles. (a wurlitzer copy) I call her Christine.

Neat to find your doo wops. You have many I've never heard before. I've put my doo wop 45's onto cd.

I'm slowly getting everything onto cd. Although I prefer to listen to the vinyl I'd rather play it from a cd and not burn out the records.

I have a old Seeburg M100C jukebox I restored. You can see it on my web site.
