Por isso, não basta fazer tradução à letra, mas tem que se fazer adaptação também para a língua de acordo com as expressões correntes. @SwooshParker Search it up, Portugal did it first in 1761. Although, it was only in european Portugal, because the economics in the rest of the empire was based in slave work. So in the colonies there was a transition period of around 80 years to stop the slave based economy (ok, probably it could have taken less time:))

but with the combined forces of Britain and Portugal we stopped the French outside Lisbon we then pushed on and liberated Spain.

Tenho em Inglês para as pessoas que não são Portuguesas perceberem o que se diz no hino... Agradeço a recomendação mas não vou alterar porque era uma das coisas que gostava que pessoas de outros países tivessem em atenção quando colocam os seus hinos aqui no YT... Que é interessante conseguir-se entender a mensagem.

O Hino Nacional é só a 1ª estrofe e refrão.
O resto do poema/canção «A Portuguesa» não faz, tecnicamente, parte do hino.
Espero sinceramente que nunca caiamos naquele ridículo de fazer 'versões' do nosso hino, ao sabor de quem o canta, como é tão habitual nos EUA.

Por isso, não basta fazer tradução à letra, mas tem que se fazer adaptação também para a língua de acordo com as expressões correntes. Portugal was one of the major world powers, and this song makes an appeal to take back the splendor that Portugal once had. It's a pity that the Portuguese do not often think about the meaning of their national anthem. @crossline7 Thank you for your coment. Although we did some bad things, I think we tried to compensat them. For instance we were the first nation to abolish slavery (in 1761) and to end the death penalty (in 1867).

@andregeo13 I can not recall one bad thing the portugise empire did but im sure there were some. They are a great nation, not my favorite, but deffinitly great.

Is this true? Some say Denmark did. Some say Russia did, and some say England did. (in regards to slavery). Which really did?

@SwooshParker Search it up, Portugal did it first in 1761. Although, it was only in european Portugal, because the economics in the rest of the empire was based in slave work. So in the colonies there was a transition period of around 80 years to stop the slave based economy (ok, probably it could have taken less time:))
