@4tracylamb A GSD will do fine in an apartment or small yard as long as he gets out. Spike gets out 2x a day and about 15 miles a week. Hiking, walking, playing in the creek in the Redwoods, at the beach, the Baylands and the soccer field. When I'm out he sleeps by the front door and waits. When I'm home he's at my feet He could have 10 acres and would still wait. He's not a backyard dog. A GSD with a yard and no one to work him is far worse than a GSD who gets out in nature to be worked.
Hooligan is a perfect description! Spike is 2 now and still loves running around at the park, creek, baylands, beach or living room. It doesn't matter. He just loves being with us and having fun.
My Shepard Rex, does the same thing he bolts across the yard like a hooligan them wen u give a command he's so serious he's well trained too and only 7 months
@123davidroweThankU, I think, for you advice. But Spike & I do quite well. He knows all the basics: sit, come, stay, long stay, heel on leash. He knows all the basic by sign & heels off leash. He know speak, drop it, shake, leave it audible and sign. He knows go left, go right, go up, jump up, go under, crawl thru, scout ahead, scout ahead and find, smell the _____ and find, when found he knows to sit, show me (as in go to something sit & point, he knows no cat, not bird, no bike, friend
@123davidrowe He knows watch for cars, he knows stop sit at all street crossings, He knows no trash, drop trash, let me smell your breath, did you eat poo poo, common thought is dogs cannot learn more than a few words which is poppycock. Spike can identify all his toys (over 50) and will bring each one, as well as "get my shoes" and "get your leash" get your egg bowl. At 6:00 am when he thumps me too hard he knows "no bear
claws" he knows "no work" means go back to sleep. He knows no play,
@123davidrowe He of the audible command that can be don in sign he knows..He still jumps up once in a while, but he knows dance which will stop him on his hunches. Every once in a while, he will try to smell your breath to see what you have eaten and knows no smell and no table. He still chases the vacuum and will smack the hamster ball if you are not looking. Shall I continue? He is 20 months old, in GSD years, he's still a puppy.
@gr8hundTake a chill pill & read title.Note the words "whose walk is late."Then note the other video when AFTER his walk he did his crazed silliness while squeaking his ball.Next the video where he is at the Baylands on a walk crazed. GSDs do fine in apts, condos, & townhouses as long as they get plenty of exercise. I'm home everyday & Spike spends all day inside by my side.We walk or hike at least 2.5 - 4.5 miles a day in increments of 2 or 3 walks to Baylands, park, beach etc.Chill Out Dude
I love it when my Shepard does the same thing! She'll get so playful she goes nuts and starts running around the room like a paranoid ninja! ^^

A GSD needs a lot of exercise - he should have a much larger yard - they are working dogs! Poor dog.

It is NOT funny to watch such a large dog in such a confined space express its need to get out and run!!!!!
Who really created the "mess"?
