i was on 70 that nite and got stuck in this very storm. i regret not video taping the event. i was driving cross country from maryland to california and when i got off the freeway after hearing this announcement, i ended up on a road that had took me nowhere increasing to the fear. i wanted to add this to my picture/video cd of my trip if i can.
A couple other notes: 1) The storm was tornado-warned when this video was taken, based on radar indication of rotation near Carrollton. 2. There was another dust cloud earlier to the west that looke more like outflow, with some possible gustnadoes embedded.
I know what a gustnado is, and that is possibile. However, the dust moved right along with the lowered area above it, which IMO does appear to form a funnel, though very briefly, and did appear to have some rotation. A couple others that saw this video segment, including one NWS meteorologist, indicated they thought it looked like a tornado. FWIW, I have sent the entire original video to the Kansas City NWS Office, so perhaps they will at some point have some more definitive word on it.
Looks more like a gust-nado to me which develops from the ground up. I never saw a funnel cloud in the video, and could not see any defined rotation at cloud base.
This video was taken from about 4 miles south of Carrollton, looking north. So the possible tornado would have been about 3 miles south of Carrollton, maybe a little closer.
