  • He just has to laugh at the visual image of a little gang of monkeys, who are up to no good.

  • I heard that ricky was pulling funny faces at Karl and had his balls out

  • Ricky was doing something to make him laugh...

  • Wish people would realize he's NOT just a guy playing a character

  • Karl: That's the first time I've laughed on air.

Steve: What do you want? A cake?

  • @columbanuploader He's not being honest here, though. I remember him laughing quite a lot during the earlier years on XFM radio; he used to laugh nearly every show when he was included in the talks.

  • @iPhap Oh, link?

  • @columbanuploader I torrented it. I couldn't find any recordings of the very old shows with the trio online. I could find the link again, I think, if you want it.

  • @iPhap Yes please, if it's not too much trouble. Thanks :)

  • @columbanuploader tinyurl[dot]com/7ck9594 Don't be discouraged by the small amount of seeds, I believe it was pretty fast.

  • Step 1: Watch Extras special features and learn what corpsing is.

Step 2: Assume that because Karl rarely laughs, he has been caught breaking a 'character' on a radio station that had so few listeners that their only prizes every week were VHS copies of Ladder 49.

Step 3: Post a video with a moronic description on Youtube and make a fool of yourself.

  • Karl is a deadpan comic, he isn't an actor, nor does he believe everything he says, so stfu the lot of you.

  • Karl almost never laughs.

But Karl did laugh a few times.

    Therefore, Karl is an actor.

    /flawless logic

  • monkeys actually do prostitute themselves for food and stuff, only other animal other than hunans to do that actually

  • Karl Pilkington. Legend.

  • I wonder what Ricky was doing to make karl laugh so hard :D

  • The monkey prostitute became fatter because she was charging him banana's. That's just genius

  • Ricky's laugh is the most beautiful sound in the world.

  • Karl's a working comedian who's developed his schtick over time. he's trying to say funny things. if you think he just says the first thing that comes to him you're also an idiot.

  • @ttasi7 Hes not a working comedian, but hes does have a go every once an awhile.

  • are you stupid

  • The monkey news is actually true for once! Some apes do actually offer each other sexual favours in return for food/protection.

  • this is absolutely classic

  • I actually heard about the prostitute monkey.

  • The Irony of Steven Merchant talking about a cake.

If you get this, you are now cool.

  • Am I the only one that can't picture Karl laughing that hard? I mean, I can see him giggling or smiling; but, really, really laughing, I dunno.

  • @theredscourge now you are talking about war, go away americans, this is an important video about monkeys working as mechanics.

  • Karl was laughing here because throughout the Monkey News, Ricky was acting like a monkey. They've talked about it in another podcast or later in the podcast. You can even hear Rickys chair squeaking and his little pants of exhaustion as he monkeys about lol.

  • @MrSiiKez i think the squeaks were ricky laughing he has a really qeird laugh

  • @jimjim506 I know he has a really weird laugh, I've been listening to them for years, but they've already talked about what happened in another podcast, Ricky was jumping around in his chair acting like a monkey

  • @MrSiiKez ah fair enough lol :) the video is too funny anyway

  • @MrSiiKez weird*

  • thanks for this lmfao funny as fuck......wiping the tears from my eyes xxxxx

  • what did ricky do to make him laugh?

  • it sounds so weirdh hearing Karl laugh!

  • steven merchant "what do u want, a cake?" --portal reference??

  • @tomdt105 quiet

  • @tomdt105 Obviously not, because this is from 2010, and Portal is from 2011

  • @TheMeanSgtPlaysPiano Actually this was broadcaster in 2003. Only adds further validity to your point

  • @sirarrgh Oh, well thankyou, mate.

  • I love this "Karl is an actor" rubbish...yeah let's waste a character that good on a tinpot radio station, convince an actor to play the same character for decades without ever going on to different roles or even acclaim for his breath-taking character work that is so good he only "slipped up" once. If there's one thing an actor loves is no recognition as an actor.

    Bollocks

  • @DKOPness hahaha brilliant; keep watching your reality tv shows and remember to be a good robot.

  • im gonna continue to think karl is karl n not just a character ricky made up or anything

  • I'll have the 2 & a half banana job, please.

  • ... Mental... WTF?!

  • @solidvidic How does thinking he is a character make someone jealous. It is a very amusing parody of the reality t.v era that we live in and ''Karl'' performs it very well and is surely a pretty smart bloke to pull it off. It might be very loosely written and improvised but it is an embellishment of reality, we all know someone like him which makes it funny, just like The Office is funny because people can relate. It shouldn't need explaining but I guess some people are just a bit thick.

  • what was he doing to make him laugh? I wish this was filmed as like real action footage not just audio :(

  • THIS... DEFIES... ALL... LOGIC!

  • I've listened to all the podcasts and stuff on iTunes and I don't think I've ever heard Karl Pilkington laugh before haha

  • i love it when karl laughs!

  • Its very weird hearing Karl Pilkington laugh!! Love KP!!!

  • @jammygamer Everyone has a mate like Karl lol

  • Karl is a genius . People probably think were laughing at him bit in reality were laughing with him. He knows what he's saying is absurd and is prob laughing on the inside

  • something is definately happening in the background, you can hear it in the background and Karl saying "I can't handle it, I can't do this, look at 'im!"

Karl isn't a fake, even he was shocked by his laughing fit.

  • @WardyYNWA it's probably ricky doing something stupid :P

  • how you see karl on idiot abroad and these podcasts, hes not a act! hes generally like that ALL the time. thats why I love him

  • wish i could have seen what was going on '#<3

  • Karl is not stupid. He probably has more knowledge that most of American although that's not saying much.

  • Guys It is true. This was a documentary about Prostitution I guess. I have seen this particular Video. And I am not being Karl Pilkington Now. seriously he said something which was true.

  • @SamuelEllmer if you heard the radio show from the start when they first started letting karl speak on the show you can tell hes not fake, maybe he plays up to it on occasion but its definatly not all planned or pre recorded especially as the show was live and you could even watch them on the webcam. The only reason they made karl into a celebrity was for rickys own ammusment.

  • Never heard him laugh before :D

  • At the beginning, he simply chimed in now and then with some comedy banter, but as the weeks went on, you could easily see they had developed the "round headed baffoon" persona of Karl Pilkington into a major part of the show. It's absolute comedy gold, but he was never "written", as in a character Ricky and Steve created that they then brought Karl in to play.

  • If you've listened to the XFM shows from the very start, many years ago, you'd know Karl started out as their producer they didn't really know, but because his observations were so odd, they simply took that side of his personality and expanded it; I'm sure they never wrote Karl as a "character", but he's obviously exaggerating his traits; most of what Gervais and Merchant put him through is pretty much bullying, so common sense says that while it's maybe not scripted, it's certainly planned.

  • it's more believable that karl is just a very funny idiot, rather than some genius or a character created by some genius....btw rickey gervais is not a genius

  • Karl is actually almost always right, he just sounds like he's talking utter shite, well he is talking utter shite cos what happens is, a true fact enters karl's brain, and once in there, it mutates into some deformed version of itself that sounds utter ridiculous.

  • I want to know what Ricky was doing to make Karl laugh hahaha

  • Karl is pretty right for once in his pathetic life (bless his heart). Chimps really do prostitution sometimes believe it or not

  • Your a fucking idiot if you think Karl is a character.

  • @1firingblanks if youd listened to his xfm shows, youd know he is just a character

  • @rabitshadow

The one thing I'd give you is that he did get used to the format of conversations they are having over the years and some of the conversations have been repeated in some form of the other in podcasts, which is natural when talking to close people over so many years, even if it is recorded. So in that sense, maybe Carl took on the role of himself more in some sense and at times exaggerated it, but it all comes from a honest core of what Karl truly is.

  • @rabitshadow not really mate because when it first started he was the producer...

  • @1firingblanks *you're

  • @1firingblanks I wouldn't say idiot. Because if you are watching it for the first time you may suspect he is a character. I did at first and i'm not ashamed of it.

  • @Sethagrius Yeah that is true, but the people that vehemently claim that Karl is a character are. Of course I believe that on occasions Karl plays up a bit to Ricky and Steve, but on the whole he is being genuine, and that these are exceptions rather than the rule.

  • @1firingblanks you're* , idiot

  • @1firingblanks YOU and the 67 people who liked that comment are fucking idiots if you think he isn't a character

  • @spoonballs He isn't.

  • @spoonballs My thoughts exactly. There's no way all the stories Karl tells are even remotely true.

  • @spoonballs So you think he is purely a character?

  • @1firingblanks For the most part, yes

  • @spoonballs So for the most part of the last decade. Sure yeah, that's conceivable. So lets say 'for the most part' means 51% of the time, thats just over 5 years and he has supposedly 'broke character' once. You would at least think they would cast a half decent actor the role...honestly.

  • @spoonballs You obviously haven't listened enough of Karl Pilkington clips.

  • @1firingblanks

you're (first off idiot) secondly you are en extra big idiot if you do not realise its a bit of both

  • @Nabolzi an (first off idiot) secondly, see my original comment.

  • @1firingblanks You're a fucking idiot if you use YOUR when you should use YOU'RE.

  • @lee2963 I didn't know YouTube employed spellcheckers, but I suppose you have to do what you have to do to put bread on the table. I assume it must be a job, because you surely wouldn't sit and pick up on my spelling mistakes in your spare time, for free? I don't mean to put you out of a job, but I don't mind making spelling errors, so feel free to take me off the spellchecker list. Thanks!

  • Karl isn't totally wrong here, which is amazing. Primatologists have documented female chimpanzees granting sexual access to males that share prized food items, like meat. The males also gifted these food items to other males in an effort to, theoretically, build and cement alliances. It gives us clues as to the beginnings of human politics, gift reciprocation, marriage schemes and prostitution (which are on some level analogous). Karl's take on it is pretty great.

  • i don't think i've ever heard karl laugh before

  • 11 people are offended by laughter!

  • I've pulled a muscle in my neck laughing to this

  • karl pilkington breaks character

  • @SamuelEllmer It was a live radio show

  • @stupidjunk878 When ricky was laughing steve of said "thats not a story" and a talky/shouty way that sounds like it was rickys line . ofcourse apart of its scripted but its still good.

  • What you think he can't laugh? Even proper deadpan stand up comedians laugh sometimes, and Karl isn't even a comedian. He's just a producer who is also an absolute maniac. He used to laugh quite a lot on the XFM shows. And being in a room when Ricky Gervais is cocking about is hard enough for anyone.

  • @iClarkey im pretty sure that karl barely even luaghed on the XFM shows. Maybe he let out a tiny 1 second chuckle on occassion but it was very rare and this clip is actually taken from the XFM shows and as Karl says, that is the first time he properly laughed on air.

  • the truth is karl has created his own moronic persona which is ironic because the way he plays it is genius, you can tell he really is quite clever though his one liners and observational comedy is brilliant.

  • @MrCri4Me

You can easily tell he does'nt act liked this irl

    Easily

  • @vladimirvputinstein Haha.

It's an act mate. He isn't really like that in r/l.

  • ¦(

  • An example of Karl's deadbeat comedy being shattered !

  • Chargin' em bananas

  • Incredibly, this story is 100% true, though he gets a couple of details wrong.

They were Capuchin monkeys though, not Bonobos.

  • Hahaha I don't understand why he thinks Monkeys are so fucking funny but it's cracking me up hahaha

  • He's talking about the bonobo chimp, look it up.

  • You of all people should know Steven. The cake is a lie.

  • I think monkeys do trade bananas (or favors) for sex, so it could be viewed as a form of prostitution.

  • @RyderFly89 exactly, karl is real no one could write a character this brilliant!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA

  • WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THATS NOT A STORY!

    love it

  • what do you want a cake? lmao

  • Karl broke character? :O

  • basically, he is real, but hes is dumbed down to an even greater extent for the podcasts

  • @casperld On the floor dying haha

  • "Little gang-guh"

  • Look at the state of his fucking head.

  • I cant imagine Karl smiling. Let alone laughing. LMAO! love it.

  • i am fucking losing my mind hahahaha

  • It's so weird to hear him laugh :L

  • 2 and a half banana for full on monkey sex. I'm buying that.

  • karl said that was the first time he laughed on air, so obviously its nothing big..and it is ricky gervais, who was probablyy pulling a face or summin.. also i didnt listene to the xfm shows but i imagie it was live, and the podcasts arent live so they probably edit them out or summin

  • What song did Karl play at 2:01 because it sounds like "You've got to hide your love away" by The Beatles?

  • To this day i'm not sure to what extent Karl is playing up to his "character" and to what extent he is really like that.

  • I can't even imagine Karl smiling

  • @IanRoantree watch the "Interview with Karl Pilkington" or "Meet Karl" he cracks a smile when Ricky catches him off guard.

  • I've never heard him laughing before.

  • @Cannibalcorpse55 he laughed wuite a bit in the xfm radio show. Doesn't seem to enjoy the podcasts as much, seems miserable in fact

  • @randmnumber Yeah thats what my brother said. He laughed more on the XFM show, so he think that their just doing an act now. To make him seem a bit "dumber", and more naive. Which is annoying. But its funny nonetheless.

  • @randmnumber I think that was because in the xfm days the focus wasn't on Karl so much, but in the podcast it was purely about him so he held it together more,

  • actually, ricky's the numbnut here, since karl's story is right on the spot true. it's just the sound of it in this setting that makes it unbelievable.

  • Ricky got his balls out

  • He meant they wr trained not they were mechanics i remember the story about hallfords monkeys ages ago

  • Does anyone else just crease up at these? I'm in stitches! LOL

  • I wonder what Ricky was doing.

  • @casperld he was licking his own nipples!!! lol

  • @casperld Well according to Pilkipedia, Ricky had a rash on his arm from squeezin karls head, so I can only assume he was itching it and karl jst found it funny

  • @casperld glaring at him with disbelief and contempt no doubt.

  • @casperld

I don't think it would be suited to a family program.

  • @Gazzabaw

ye from what i have heard and seen in other videos and podcasts, it seems like ricky was either pulling faces or doing something stupid to make karl laugh and mess up.

  • thats's the 2nd time i heard him say 'thats the first time i have laughed on air yet' beginning to think this guy has a script

  • @cowtipper666 if it was a script, there wouldn't be continuity issues. People don't keep track of what they say, especially for two hours weeks and years after each other.

  • I wish if people didn't like something on YouTube - they'd leave instead of winding up people who DO. AND, I hate people from, say, England, making assuming cracks about, say, Americans without really knowing who's being stupid here!.......Anyway, I love Karlie, Steven and.........Ricky sometimes. I wish he'd stop calling Karl a stupid fk on "The Ricky Gervais Show" 'cause he's my favorite...;-)

  • You guys got it wrong, Karl is and always was the head writer and producer of The Office and Extras. Ricky and Stephen are characters Karl created.

    I promise its true.

  • @SuperMachoMuchacho Why would Karl let Ricky and steve take credit for two of the biggest UK shows of the last decade, that doesnt make any sense. I cant understand why he would do that? That would mean Ricky and Steve are in Character 24/7!

  • @SuperMachoMuchacho well thats wrong. Karl is a legend...but he created ricky and stephen? dont be silly.

  • @SuperMachoMuchacho Lol i think you'll find the producers was a little fella in a wheelchair :)

  • @SuperMachoMuchacho not wot wikipedia says

  • @SuperMachoMuchacho i hope your joking there.... ricky and steve were the creators, karl had nothing to do with the office...

  • @DubstepOnLockdown oh for fuckssake, of course he's joking

  • @SuperMachoMuchacho yeah.... if anyone thinks for one second Karl is the stupid one.... they are dead wrong !

  • @SuperMachoMuchacho hahahaha thats sounds like some crazy shit that karl WOULD make up

  • @SuperMachoMuchacho Amazing...nothing more to say.

  • @Dr TommyTitWank

Look, for some people it's not important if it's real or not. Comedy is subjective like art. I find this hilarious but incant stand the office as it makes me cringe.

I know that Karl isn't as dumb as he plays it.

If so many people find this funny then either they're all being fooled and goodness gracious! get the police on them! What fraud!

    Or....

Some of them think it's real, some don't, some find it funny, some don't.

I can't see why it makes you angry? They're entertainers

  • Karl is 100% a character. He's similar to Larry david playing a version of himself on Curb Your Enthusiasm. Who cares anyway if it's funny.

  • KARL HAS WON!!!

  • i dont care if karl is a character, ignorance is bliss

  • I'd put money on these "Pilkington is fake" conspiracy theorists being from the US. Clearly they've never been to England - Manchester is full of Pilkington-esque thinkers! Karl is just the pinnacle of them all. To convince yourself that he is somehow intelligent enough to manipulate a character and deceive the public is just ludicrous - best demonstrated in the obvious fact that you couldn't write this shit!!

  • Karl's character is like Stephen Colbert's so he's not a total idiot just knows how to be very funny

  • yeah they are of course fake, they spent 4 years 'practicing' on xfm where it was very much a private joke

  • Even his laugh is dull and monotone.

  • I don't think he was laughing and struggling to stay in character so much as just laughing because ricky was making him laugh :/ maybe I'm missing something. . .

  • @TheSL4D3Y I agree. Either Karl isn't faking or he's the greatest actor in existence.

  • It's really lovely to hear Karl laughing like that.

  • In character? Karl is not an actor.. I recommend any doubters to read the chimpanze news section of Ricky gervais' blog.. U can understand from it that Karl never wanted to be famous as an "idiot" (an idiot with a head like a fucking orange), the things he talks about on the show r things he talks about outside the snow. In summary, Karl is simply a strange (in terms of likes, dislikes and personality) yet hilarious person who is aware of their hilarity and can keep a straight face. Karl stoppe

  • Mechanics...I think he means maniacs.

  • @danielvlee no one replaced gervais...he only ever acted in the British version (the original).

  • @baughskeet and Steve Carell has his role in the American version

  • @danielvlee No, Steve Carell has the role of Michael Scott...it was never intended for Ricky Gervais (at least not publicly) to have Michael Scott's role. Each country's "Office" has different versions of David Brent/Michael Scott. It's inspired by the original show, but after the pilot, which uses some of the same scripting, even, that show moves in its own direction.
