  • great review. although i would never get an automatic for a sports car.

  • gen2 ?

  • full throttle looks like same for both

  • just one question. why would u want a car to shift through the gears so quickly?

  • @thweepz So it can get a faster acceleration

  • And then repair costs due to failure/damage? Don't ask, don't tell.

  • Comment removed

  • hey where can you find the sport mode-wot on 2009 lancer ralliart?and how?thank u..

  • does anyone know if this is the same transmission that VW use?? the DSG?

  • @gent248 ya its similar even the gtr's tranny works like tht

  • @gent248 Yes, it's a dual clutch setup.

  • do you have a 0-60 on a normal lancer? Not ralliart or evo.

  • @MangoSmoothie16 Yep! I'll try to get it posted in the next week or so.

  • @mpgomatic sweet

  • Thanks for the review, the breakdown in throttle was helpful.

  • manual mode? rofl

  • I liked this car, but I found the SST to feel clunky at times compared to other semi-auto transmissions. The 6 speeds are pretty fun to blow through though. Makes for great acceleration.

  • its still an auto, paddle shifters are for people who want to feel like they can drive a manual but really cant

  • How about a fuckin clutch with paddle shifts? That would be the bomb

  • @MangoSmoothie16 why? depending on what vehicle (like this one) the shifts are faster then any stick shift can be but stick shifts are more fun and require more skill obviously

  • I'm very disappointed that this car was not offered in a manual option, 4 years straight of 9 gen ralliart and still only being offered in an automatic.

I have my 2010 Lancer gts to trade in, that is if that day comes.

  • @drdude2029,

I have the 2011 Ralliart....it does make the whisper from the turbo...it's not terribly loud but it's audible with radio turned down and the windows open...also had a buddy of mine tell me he could hear my turbo...

  • Im all for the TC-SST. Shifting is nice and enthusiasts feel its the best, but I love to go fast and I'd gladly let a computer do it for me at a good second or two faster

  • I WANT YOUR JOB!

  • stupid question but does anyone know if this car makes that whisper sound from the turbo?

  • few upgrades you could have a MR and save ALOT of money

  • Does the SST downshift well in high RPM in sportsmode? For example, under hard braking and gearing down does it do a heel toe like downshift like the R35 GTR?

  • Can really see that turbo boost kick in around 3-3.5k

  • its a realy fun car.

  • BOUGHT THE 330 SST GSR THE OTHER WEEK, 0-62 IN 4.4SECS, NOTHING FOR THE MONEY CAN TOUCH IT

  • how much is this thinnnggggg

  • looks like a fun ass car

  • There seems to be a bit of a lag compared to my GTI's DSG. Hard to compare though since it is a totally different beast.

  • The 0-60 is a little about 6 seconds, don't fool yourself. They only have 237 hp. IMO they should have 250-260 to be competitive.

  • @gumper1986 AND THIS isnt possible with minor bolt ons? there IMPORT TUNERS for a reason. thats why there 30k. and if you through in another 10 - 20k on upgrades you will smoke ANYTHING.

  • @kphillips012

you can go all the way to stage 3 for about 7-8. at stage 3 your beating 98-99% of the cars on the road

  • i remember when i used to want a lancer...

  • got mine yesterday, put it in sport mode and got 13.1 mpg!

  • @AnTHoNyB1125 That'll happen ... congrats! ;)

  • @AnTHoNyB1125 is the car worth getting? or should i stick to the gts?

  • I would drive sport mode 24/7

  • with medium throttle 0-60 in 8 seconds

  • Easy pal rev limiter at :30 wow.

  • has the shortest 2nd gear i ever seen. i thought the g37 with the 7 spd automatic 2nd gear was short and the chrysler t&c with the 6pd auto has really short 2nd gears

  • so when u press the paddle shifter or u know, move the stick 1 gear up, u don have to press the gas pedal or u have to like just let it or go or how u do it with out the clutch pedal|??

  • I kick myself in the balls everyday for buying the gts I'm hopefully gonna trade it in for the RA here in a couple months

  • @scotthughes33 Same here.

  • I may be slow, but I counted a 4.8 second 0 to 60? wow

  • @NewGameReleases more like 7 seconds..

  • @jbbauer0 I used a timer

  • @NewGameReleases yeah around 5.0 sec WOT in sport mode ...not bad for the EVOs little brother.....might lean to a RA vs. a GSR since I'm lazy to push a 3rd pedal (BTW used 08 GSR are pretty cheap now)

  • @vash241987 lol I hate clutch pedals as well!

  • Well I don't know what was wrong with the Ralliart I drove about a year ago, but I tried all of the shifting methods, and the paddle shift was horrible. Every time I would shift, it would think about it for a second and the engine would rev to the moon and then it would go into gear...But this video makes it appear a lot better...Nice review

  • Is manual mode only for the paddle shifters? Or can you use the knob on the gearbox to shift?

  • @hafunny2 it looks like you can use the gearbox knob since it's got the + and -

  • I think I still prefer manual

  • what does "WOT" mean???

  • @kN5ack wide open throttle

  • @kN5ack wide open throttle

  • @kN5ack Wide Open Throttle (Pedal to the Metal)

  • ok if you are a true car enthusiast and test driver what do you mean by tc-sst which is available in evo 10 and the ralliart...

  • 0:53 what is that up/down button right next to SST text?

  • @adrianTNT It's to operate the tarmac, gravel, or snow modes for the transmission

  • curious to see how my GTI can compare to lancer

  • @SRQshark It would destroy your GTI

  • everyone is finally starting to copy the DSG trannys in the vw's and audi's

  • @AFinRoo .... and Porsche´s "DoppelKupplung"

  • @AFinRoo cuz its great!

  • best review so far for such a mechanism, thanks

  • anyone who knows about cars will tell you that manual is the shit, quicker, funner, plus you really get to feel a connection between man and machine

  • A manual is not gonna give you quiker shifts auto beats a stick hands down

  • @larryadam2 i would love to see u try and chirp the tires with this thing.... ya it has fast shifts but theres more to it than just fast shifts

  • an auto will give you quiker shifts hands down nobody can shift faster than a auto and chirping tires isnt ganna give you a win all the time

  • depends on what your motives in a car would be.... chirping tires may not win you a race but it is always fun to do, which is why i prefer my manual over an auto, just for the fun of driving. i have tried the twin clutch auto and was not really entertained by it.

  • Yeah true i had a 05 gto 6spd and i miss it.

  • shifting yourself may be more fun as you say....but its not faster!

  • only an american can say that ....

  • whats your point?

  • I'm not an automatic hater, there are some good automatic gearboxes on the market... but the way the gearchange sounds and the way it feels will never come close to a manual... And that's why i prefer manuals, you can play more with em aswell...

  • so this car has both auto and stick?

  • no, it is always auto, but you can "tell" the gearbox which gear you like and you can prohibit (auto-)shifting (so the engine will run into rpm limiter).

the technologie of this automatic is more similar to manual (stick) than to traditional automatic.

Anyway: just two pedals: throttle and break

  • Is it possible to change the brightness of the middle display? (It was possible in the 2001 Mitsus...)

  • Comment removed

  • fuck 5.5 sec oy my god!!!!!!!!1

  • The future of transmissions. Say good bye to conventional auto's and the good ol' fashion stick. Too bad, I will miss the latter.

  • @sugarisgoodness i'll take a dsg over an automatic, but i'd never have one over a manual. i don't care if a car with a dsg is .07 seconds faster around a track and is .1 seconds quicker 0-60. in the real world, the manual is much more rewarding and it's also less jerky and easier to live with.

so if you want to spend $3,000 more to have a gearbox that makes the car less than a second quicker round a track, go ahead. the real car enthusiasts will keep buyuing manuals.

  • @sugarisgoodness and if the industry decides to completely forget about the car enthusiast and kill off the manual, we'll just buy used cars.

  • @coolerdude44

Yeah don't worry, I'm with you. 90% of the appeal of my focus is that it's a manual. The fun of clicking off a a bunch of good shifts in a row and the control around corners is something I could hardly live without. Me and my buddies would single handedly keep standards around if we could.

  • why do so many people think that a twin clutch transmission is boring or not worth having?? Is having a clutch pedal so much better? This transmission is so much better and gets rid of the extra pedal that technology is finally getting rid of. If you race this vehicle with twin clutch transmission against one with manual, the manual loses every single time.

  • Thats certainly not true. Off the line a manual is faster every single time, unless you're in some F1 monster, no automatic or automatic manual transmission is quicker. Manual is the lightest transmission, and theres no limit to how much power you want. Now if you wanna take two average drivers to a track, one in an sst style transmission and one in a manual, sure the sst will probably be a bit quicker. But in the hands of a pro the manual is still faster.

  • your wrong!

  • lol paddle shifters suck there boring!!!

  • HOW???

  • just like DSG in VW,AUDI,SKODA,SEAT

  • is this car rear wheel drive

  • No. All wheel drive.

  • No, it has the Evo IX's AWD System with Limited Slip Differential.

  • no all

  • Can't you change gears from the stick.. I saw +/- on it.

  • Yes, you can. Also, the people who review it don't seem to realize that you can also use the paddle shifters without pushing the stick into manual mode.

  • Okay...thats just bad.

  • WOT= wide open throttle

  • Toward the end of the video, there's a compare between Normal and Sport - WOT... what's WOT stands for?

  • Wide Open Throttle

    WOT

  • so wuts the third clutch for?

  • they are fuckin fast

  • @catnipfever22 compared to a corolla or a civic, yes they are!

  • Great post and thanks for the more in depth review! The Ralliart is an appealing option as I can take it camping, through mud or snow thanks to its AWD, yet still have the performance! The different modes of the SST are great too.

Did you find a mpg savings by using "normal" over "sport"? Obviously in sport the shifts are faster and more aggressive, but I was wondering about if it saves even the slightest mpg.

  • Thanks for the kind words! :)

We didn't test Normal vs Sport for MPGs, due to time constraints. Sport is likely to be more thirsty, with higher shift points and the tendency to hold onto a gear (for more throttle response), rather than upshifting.

  • damn nice car.. i wish mitsubishi have this car in my country :(

  • this car is amazing i just baught one pretty damn fast 0-60 is impressive. so much fun to drive

  • I have this car and let me tell you, I never thought I would buy a Sports Car without a 3rd pedal, I went to our local Mitsubishi Dealership to buy my wife a new car (2009 Galant Ralliart), test drove this and walked out that day with two new cars, this thing shifts faster than you can shift a 3 pedal manual. Not to mention, with a Boost Pill and a ECU flash, you're looking at a sub-5 second 0-60 car, its insane.

  • WOW the zero to sixty on this is more than impressive. Is this even the evolution?

  • it's not evolution buddy, it's evo's child ;)

  • So like 5.5 seconds from 0 to 60?

  • i think paddle shifters take away from the experience of real sport driving. when you have a stick shift. its really right on top of the transmission, all connected directly. in paddle shifting its all electronically done. anyway that's just my opinion.

  • Nice, a doppelkupplungsgetriebe!

  • I was skeptical about this transmission at 1st but once i got to drive it, i change my mind. I love my car. The TC-SST is an impressive piece of machinery.

  • Is it just me, or are these videos from MPGomatic always at a low sound level, I turn my speakers all way up and it just gets to normal sound level

  • Are you on a laptop by chance?

  • well.... i am. and i have the same problem!

  • I have a laptop and desktop, it does it on both of them

  • This is driving me batty. Which web browser do you use?

I've tested on a PC with external speakers, an iMac with internals, and a MacBook with internals. It's fine on both the desktops, but is soft on the laptop.

All of the tests were done with either FireFox or Safari. I don't have MSIE loaded on any of the computers.

  • I use Comcast with Windows Internet Explorer, running Vista.

  • dam with the wot and the sport tranny in that thing it seemed to take about a second off of your 0-60 time

  • At :30 it shows your knees, how cramped are you there? You seemed stressed out. Pretty impressive shifting. Is it hard to change between manual shifting and automatic shifting with this? I wouldn't want to accidentally be in the wrong mode at the wrong time. I want something I can have fun with but yet still be easy enough to let someone like my mother drive if needed to.

Oh, And no stereo demonstration? You hyped it up now i want to listen! =)

    Thanks for the video!

  • Not cramped at all!

It's easy to switch between modes, just flip the shifter to the left (manual) or right (normal).

I need a copyright free track to do stereo demos, otherwise it violates YouTube's rules.

  • Oh ok, I wasn't looking for any song in particular just to see what the stereo system sounds like. Does this car come with a navigation system or something like that? I haven't really noticed oddly enough.

  • There's a Navigation option package that includes a 40 Gig Digital Music Server. The test car didn't have it, tho.

  • I have a ZUNE and not an Ipod, Does it still have AUX ports? And how do you get music onto the nagivation hard drive? Sorry I am not really familar with audio systems. Do you connect MP3 player to it and copy it onto it? Or do you put CDs in and rip them?

  • Take a look at the review video ... there are ports at the base of the dash for audio in.

Not sure on the optional Nav hard drive - if there's no USB, it rips CDs.

  • Yea i noticed that, Just wasn't sure that with the upgraded nav package would those ports still remain. That would be cool if you could just rip songs from the radio onto the HD.

  • This car is VERY Impressive!

  • that thing is QUICK man
