German will help you a little in travel, but german is only spoken in germany really. Russian helps with all of the countries around it, but russian is very, very hard. I think french will be easy since you already speak spanish. That will help
@cire3000 English is very easy (but not to people from asia). German is easier when you know english. German is definitely the easiest language in eastern europe. Slavic, russian, polish, and the others are extremely difficult. but you cannot do anything with most of those languages. Luckily with german there are a lot of english words (cognates)--also the same case with spanish.
@Bri212211 Theres is no comparison between German or Spanish and English. For instance, in English most of the words don't have a gender, in Spanish thay have 2 genders, and in German there are 3 genders words can have.
@cire3000 You dont have to tell me, i speak english, russian, ukrainian, and alright spanish. I was referring to nouns. The grammar is different, but not that much. there are still similar set ups. Gender is the least of your worries if you want to learn an eastern european language.

Russian being in the second hardest in the world (along with some others), and chinese being the hardest in the world (along with japanese and others). Even if you know english, german, spanish, and french, russian will still be extremely hard because it is so different. chinese takes dedication, but it would benefit you the most.
@cire3000 I studied chinese for a month just to get the basics. the X in xie xie is pronounced like the english "sh" but you pronounce it with the middle of your tongue. A soft "sh". in russian this letter looks like "щ".

My biggest gripe isn't about learning other languages (I'm learning Japanese, French, and possibly Romanian) but the fact that Obama is pushing specifically for learning Spanish. The dominant language of the US has been English, ever since the country was founded. Continued next post.

@onstageagain English isn't the only most commonly used language, and Spanish is starting to overtake English as the most commonly used language. So I think it would be nice for Spanish to be an option. I am far from liberal, but I'm a realist and I see how knowing both English and Spanish can get someone far in life, and a lot of companies are more willing to hire someone who is multilingual (especially if they know Spanish)

In France I could barely find anyone who spoke fluent English even among entrepreneurs. Luckily, I was competent enough to be able to address them in their mother tongue. I don't think the differences between the English we speak at home and business English are really noticeable.
@onstageagain America should speak spanish because it does help. I had to teach myself and i hate that my parents didnt teach me growing up. It helped me understand so many things about language in general. While traveling in Europe I met people who spoke 4-5 languages. I was lucky enough to grow up speaking Spanish and now I'm studying Italian. Hopefully one day I'll be trilingual!

@cire3000 English is very easy (but not to people from asia). German is easier when you know english. German is definitely the easiest language in eastern europe. Slavic, russian, polish, and the others are extremely difficult. but you cannot do anything with most of those languages. Luckily with german there are a lot of english words (cognates)--also the same case with spanish.

Russian being in the second hardest in the world (along with some others), and chinese being the hardest in the world (along with japanese and others). Even if you know english, german, spanish, and french, russian will still be extremely hard because it is so different. chinese takes dedication, but it would benefit you the most.

They also teach English as a 2nd language in there schools. If u teach Ur child a 2nd language it should be Chinese, we do more business with China than any country on the planet. Mexico hasn't got brains to teach the people English. Most mexicans in Mexico don't go to school past 5Th grade.

Since when is English a Native American language? You're still speaking the language that your immigrant ancestors brought here and you haven't learned a NATIVE AMERICAN language. Learn the Native American language that was/is spoken in the area where you live, otherwise don't expect others to learn YOUR European language if you didn't learn the ones native to America.As a Native American, I also have the expectaction that white people must learn the language of the tribe/nation where they live.

Their ancestors were primarily English speaking people but, they also had many people who spoke French too, so now, Canada's official languages are English and French. Plus, Latinos/Hispanics are going to make a bigger impact in the future here in the U.S., so now is a good time for preperation.

My biggest gripe isn't about learning other languages (I'm learning Japanese, French, and possibly Romanian) but the fact that Obama is pushing specifically for learning Spanish. The dominant language of the US has been English, ever since the country was founded. Continued next post.

@onstageagain English isn't the only most commonly used language, and Spanish is starting to overtake English as the most commonly used language. So I think it would be nice for Spanish to be an option. I am far from liberal, but I'm a realist and I see how knowing both English and Spanish can get someone far in life, and a lot of companies are more willing to hire someone who is multilingual (especially if they know Spanish)

Now English is studied worldwide because it has become a global lingua franca, even for situations where neither party is a native speaker.

Most kids anywhere in world barely can speak/write/read business English, post K-12 & lib arts college degrees, so I scoff about claims of multi-lingual abilities & suspect most of the alleged multi-linguals R un/underemployed.

@onstageagain I wouldn't call them irrelevant, maybe their importance drops to a lesser degree in North America, but in Europe the knowledge of foreign languages such as French and Spanish come in hand. In France I could barely find anyone who spoke fluent English even among entrepreneurs. Luckily, I was competent enough to be able to address them in their mother tongue. I don't think the differences between the English we speak at home and business English are really noticeable.

@onstageagain America should speak spanish because it does help. I had to teach myself and i hate that my parents didnt teach me growing up. It helped me understand so many things about language in general. If youre worried about spanish taking over english then youre dumb. you cannot preserve a language. are we speaking old english or pure anglo-saxon? no. language changes no matter what. its best to embrace it and learn as much as possible to be prepared.

@onstageagain Lol I meant in the US. Every week it feels like there are more and more Spanish speaking people at the bus shelters. It's getting so now I hear multiple Spanish speakers almost daily. And there are a lot of mostly Spanish speaking cities in the US.

There R about 310 reservations in the US, not all 550-plus recognized tribes have a reservation, 1, time each tribe had there own tounge. It would be insane to have each tribe speaking there language. Some tribes share reservations, others have none. Past land allotments & sales to non-Indians, reservations R fragmented. Because a policy was appropriate in the past doesn't mean its eternally good.
