Thanks very much for that. That's probably not the least bit true of some of my big jokey productions, but thanks for recognizing the simplicity and directness of this one. When the song is that good to start with, less can really be more.
I notice that Tennessee Ernie's version is now on YouTube---it's the second "Related Video" on my screen anyway. That's the archtypal version for me. I was 9 when my older brother and I wore out the grooves of that LP ("This Lusty Land!"). I think Ernie just NAILED the song.
