On ATVs not usually, they are ALL Terrain Vehicles. Trucks cars and SUVs, most of the time yes. Your Air intake needs to have a good filter or a snorkel, all you electrical components need to be covered with either an epoxy or with some hardware, and some auto transmissions need to have snorkels added or else your tranny will be full of mud and getting taken home on a flat bed.

Actually this place borders a river and they bring in big pumps to pump water into the old river bed there. Then just add trucks to tear it up and walla.... mud holes.
