Hi, wondering if anyone can help me, When I open videos with windows media player they show correctly in full screen, but when I open in quicktime or sony vegas they have the bottom and right of the picture missing. The videos are directly captured from my hdpvr.
Do you know how i can stretch a pre-recorded video (a Modern Warfare 2 clip) from 800x600 16:9 that appears squished when in 4:3 but normal widescreen on an HD monitor?
I'm amazed that I can't find an easy tool in Movie Maker, I even tried different programs -_-
@theporkchopchannel Go to File > Render As > Template > Custom > Frame size > 1280x720 for HD widescreen. 640x480 for 4:3 'square' format. Hope this helps
@philipnewmannz fair point, good video. its probably better off that when framing theres more head room, for when top and bottom cut off later. would it be worth experimenting and making a guide frame on the flip out as i may have to do this on an old PANASONIC MX300 i just bought cheap
This tutorial seems to be interesting... even though, I haven't downloaded the program. yet... I just want to be sure of something... can I crop a .vob file, which originally has 16:9 dimentions but in the 4:3 frame, and export it as a .vob file again??? I just don't want it to lose the high quality that a .vob file has... thanks.
you are just zoom in your video, trimming up and down parts of the video. It'd better keep your 4x3 video in 4x3 aspect ratio with pillars. At least you aren't losing anything. These bars works as keeping the original aspect ratio and since 4x3 picture is 100% all picture, you're not losing any picture.
got animation movie made for 4:3 and wan show on projector now with of course 16:9
so its stretches so i used tool to burn it make black box all around to preserve aspect ratio anyway so have full screen ? on projector with out aspect ratio distortions?
dude! u r a very smart fellow!! now i can easily turn my 4:3 videos into 16:9 in premiere elements and make them HD in movie maker! i thank you greatly.
i can assure you that mac is superior to pc. i only recently changed to mac 6 months ago and i am delighted! All of the pc users are saying that mac sucks because you know, they want to be better but once you switch to mac you realize how awesome it really is. =)

@WeTookAlpha go to pan/crop and see if you can zoom in on the footage.

Just upload the 4:3 video to Youtube and add these as tags:
yt:stretch=16:9 yt:quality=high
works perfectly
BTW there were 43 (4:3) comments before I wrote this ;)

Use your 4:3/16:9 camera in 16:9 mode. SATH: Saves All The Hassle.
And you get higher effective resolution (530kp vs 400kp) on a Canon MV920-E camcorder.
jjovereats 10 months ago
its basically blowing the image up and you lose resolution

@showreel2 Exporting something for the web when it's being edited in SD you don't really see much difference.

Its actually simpler* in iMovie (08 not HD), just go to project properties, select widescreen, then use the crop feauture on your clips.

i have HD, not 08
