Very good. Except you mount level or EDM on tripod after tripod legs been stood on. Sometimes you can crush a little stone or slip from a stone while standing on the leg of tripod or pushing it into a ground in this case mechanism inside your level or Total station gets damaged.
They were very clumsy in how they setup the instrument. Only one person should handle the instrument, not at the same time. Also, the plumb bob is impractical in this video. Plumb bobs still have practical uses, but that is why there is an optical plumb on these instruments, and it is even used in this video. Newer instruments have a laser plumb, but if there isn't one, position the tip of your foot near the point and rough locate it through the optical plumb.
Please get a local Land Surveyor to show you how to do this correctly. Your terminology is not industry standard. For example, what you call "angle locks" are called "clamps." The fine tune knob is called a "fine motion screw." Adjust the tripod height before you put the instrument on it.
This is absolutely disgusting. You don't treat a surveying instrument like this. First of all, the beginning of the video, these two idiot are handling the instrument so rough, I'm sure the instrument came off of Traverse Point. I refuse to go on, perhaps next time @KUSurveyor decides to put up a tutorial video, take better care of the instrument or you will be replacing instruments faster than you can recruit students.
I got bored watching it so didn't see the ending and forget part 2. It ran like one of those for dummy books. I do not proclaim to be highly intelligent, but just show the things that matter otherwise boredom does begin to set in and same as at what happens at school - you get bored and miss the interesting stuff too. Also I'm sure this could have been presented in a much more interesting manner. Thanks anyway :)
a monkey sets up a theodolite like this, i cant find words to appreciate this, the worst video i've ever seen... go to burger king and sell hamburgers.. from Hungary, Europe ^^
Oh give 'em a break. They're just college kids, obviously hungover. I like 1) the patriotic background music - it compliments the Asian dude using a German theodolite, 2) the mystery hand at point "c" (3:58} and c) the liberal use of the regional pronunciation of the word height as "heighth". Just my three cents....remember, this IS a plunged horizontal angle...replace your lens-cap, remove your batteries and pick up your trash
They make so many errors it,s laughable. Even during the measurement process the bubble is not in the centre and it,s plain to see. Instead of starting again they just carry on.

Turning angles to a level rod is laughable.

Does this college really even have a surveying program??...Oh wait..this was surveying for engineers...no wonder why they seem so clumsy.

1. Set up the tripod properly, ie rough level over station @ proper height
2. Now take the instrument out of the case and set on tripod.

where is the accuracy in angle measurement with a grade rod?
dave44bolden 2 years ago
1) First extend de legs of the tripod and then put the theodolite.
2) Insert the batteries before leveling the theodolite.
3)Alhays aim the theodolite to the centrer of the rod. (to aviod errors on the horozontal angle)
