I think it's the people that introduced fish in non native water ways that are the ones without the understanding. It's not the majestic European carp fault!! Plus I think the Asian jumping carp is the bigger problem in the US! Nice tank Btw, I think you should think about bigger quarters for some of the larger fish

I think a lot of people consider them junk fish because they eat about anything, live in horrible habitats, and aren't good to eat. However, if you ever hook into a carp, they'll put up a fight of a lifetime. I caught a 13 incher today, yes, 13 inches. It fought better then 11/12 of the bass I catch. 1lb carp = a 4lb bass anyday.

Where I live carp are a trash fish, bony and terrible tasting (tasted ONCE), an invasive species. We catch them left,right,middle and throw them on the river bank to die for the scavanger wild life. 20lb carp takes awhile to 'disappear'.

Over here in USA and Canada, these fish are non native, meaning they have no natural predators (besides those of us that kill all of the ones we catch). i dk about carps but there is koi fish u can buy at a pet store which are basically carp, but are domesticated and they have unique colors. buy the baby ones...they are cheap but grow fast if u feed them the right munchies.

The fish don't behave the same as fish in the wild due to the tanks constant temperature, so they do not breed. Due to the warmth of the tank they eat consistantly throughout the year and that is why a couple of them are now over 30lbs. Its good for testing different baits and baiting arrangements. Of all the baits i have given them, te bait they react strongest to is Maltesers! They go crazy for them which i can only assume is because of they're crunchy-ness and chocolate flavour.

The carp are the "fishers pond" strain famous here in the uk. They were bought between 2-5lb 5 years ago and the largest is now over 30lb's.
