I love medieval music...it makes me spin so many stories in my head in a far far away land.... :))
And this is Ars Nova...what a fascinating time period sandwiched in between two timeless and beautiful periods- Ars Antiqua and the Early Renaissance. I love how there were those amazing parallel, organal and discant organa in ars antiqua..oh and gregorian chants! I love chants...then the motets of the Franco-Flemish are seamless pearls; I'm in love with the continuous imitation Josquin used. :)
I am extremely interested in medieval and renaissance music. :) The music makes me think of fairy tales....I start to say in my head "Once upon a time, long long ago..." :D
I'm afraid life was nothing like a fairy tale back then, certainly not in the cities.. But at least they did have a rather exquisite taste for music. And they hadn't invented that Equal Temperament sludge yet, that's why the music sounds sharp and brilliant if performed well. Dufay, Ciconia and Landini are my favorites. Great channel you have!
@glorup I'm no historian, I just don't like romantic stories. For example, have you ever spent a night in a real unmodified castle, not brought up to modern standards? It's cold and damp and uncomfortable, and after the initial thrill you get bored out of your skull.. No fun at all!!
@voxhunden Ok, you can't just enter an empty castle and wait because nothing will happen... you have to imagine how this castle was hundreds of years ago... that' s magic...
@Thanovitch Haha. No really, it was horrible. Why do you think those lairds went to war with each other all the time? They were bored out of their skulls, and probably clinically depressed by modern standards. Trust me, there wasn't a lot of magic going on in those castles, they were cold and grim places, claustrophobic prisons, and no amount of wall tapestry could probably hide that.
Can you tell me what ensemble is playing?, please

In all honesty, these instruments sound like crap; yet nothing sounds better and more beautiful than these instruments.

These three pieces are nothing short of brilliant, music written for the Shawm in the mid 1400's is about as good as it gets. 5*****
