any test that appears in the front end, "...Joomla..." or "...this template...", etc, is in the current template's index.php file. If the template has a "dog ear" (image up top in the template that says the template name) it can be disabled in the template parameters, or the underlying image can simply be replaced. The text is on a PER TEMPLATE basis and you have to MANUALLY remove it in the template's index.php. Make sure you back up the original index.php before you go changing anything.
This IS a limitation, but not a terribly restrictive one. I am working on a site88 . net site right now that is a fully stocked Jomla site and im running at only 2%.
That file will not affect Joomla at all. It is either an file that your host included to manage your activities and that is not deletable, or its a file that was created when you put a quota on an ftp account. It's probably the first thing, a host file.
hi alex, need help! i've done uploading the zip file using core ftp to the 000webhost, im on the stage of unzipping the joomla package inside the file manager, something showed saying "Warning: ftp_mkdir() [function.ftp-mkdir]: 8195 Kbytes used (2%) - authorized: 358400 Kb in /home/manager/public_html/includes/filesystem.inc.php on line 985" a lot of lines like this and some files copied succesfully...what would be the problem? could you help me please! thanks!
warnings are almost always nothing to worry about. What you need to look out for are outright ERRORS. The zipper that comes WITH windows is known to cause problems: use winzip or winrar. If you take a problematic zip and simply unzip it several times, about 3, maybe 4, it will simply overwrite already unzipped files/folders and almost certainly successfully any files/folder that didnt work the first time around. So, unzip that particular zip a couple more times and everything SHOULD be fine.
thanks for your response. But yes, I abolutely unzipped... multiple times. Try it now yourself. There are like 4 folders and a php file and that's it. And yes, I'm downloading the FULL package, and not the patch. Maybe the installation folder is stuffed inside the admin folder or something.. I dunno, but I've spent so many days trying to get it to work that I've been hesitant to spend anymore time or energy into it. But I'll look in the root file as you suggested and maybe that'll solve it
I just downloaded it and checked it and it's fine. Joomla . org just redid their site (as you can see) and it's hard to navigate through now. Maybe you were getting something else?
help! I keep running into an installation snag. When I download the latest version of Joomla site (currently 1.5.6) and unzip it, I do find that I do not have as many files as you seem to have on your 1.5 Joomla package. (For example, there is no installation folder at all.) I've attempted to go back to download earlier versions, but they are not available. I've tried to go through manual set up several times but it just doesn't work. Any suggestions? I can't seem to get around this.
1.56 most certainly has an installation folder. In fact, at least in the root, all files and folders are the same as previous versions. Unzip on your local computer and look over it. What I suspect you are talking about is "no installation folder once you unzip on your host", which is a different thing. If you are doing this on 000WebHost with the "zip tick", make sure that you use winrar and when you unzip on the host, make sure there are no "unzip failed" type errors.
I have something ( Joomla 1.5) uploading from Core FTP, I had to drag and drop the files into the queue area then right click the mouse, anyway, I'll just keep experimenting. It's not exactly going the same way as your video, but I think you have some great links.
You CAN use CoreFTP like that, but there should be no reason why you can't just drop files in the right panel. I use/demo CoreFTP because it is nice and simple yet full featured. FireZilla is another excellent client that makes it easier to move files between local and remote systems.
This is just my first time trying any of this type of Web hosting. I did find out though, that I'm supposed to avoid ALL free web- hosting sites, at least for my purposes. I'm trying to start a website, that can only be accessed by subscription. Anyway, I'll try out Joomla, after I've found a descent web- hosting site. Thanx.
If you are setting up a site where people will actually pay, the customers demand speed and uptime. It's not that free sites are slow and down a lot, so much as they are not as reliable as a paid service, especially when it comes to the issue of accountability: free hosts owe you nothing. Security is of little consequence because your front end site will be no less/more secure no matter where it is. I suspect that free hosts servers are more likely to be hacked, but nothing to back that up.
What you absolutely SHOULD be doing is trying things on free host before you EVER install it on your paid site. You CAN install joomla in subfolders, so you CAN run a test joomla on a paid site like that, but I guarantee that if you do you mix the two up and make SERIOUS mistakes.
So, NO, you should not run subscription site that must be highly stable, but, you absolutely SHOULD run a test site from one. I use my free sites all the time.
hmmm. I suspect that either the zip is too big (each zip should be no bigger than 3 MB's), or that the zip is "broken" somehow. WHen you repack, use winrar because the included windows zipper DOES mess things up for some people for some reason.
I have gone step by step and once I am in the joomla install say the following err: "Can't create database 'a7398636_ah' (errno: 31) SQL=CREATE DATABASE `a7398636_ah` CHARACTER SET `utf8`"

hey alex excellent videos they have really help me as i have tryied many other webhosting but none seem as good as 000webhost the only problem is i seem to get the same error as Dr4ag0n when installing Joomla! and cant seem to fix it myself could help as im a bit of a noob to this?
the advice I gave Dr4ag0nAng3l is solid. Try typing it in manually; take care that fields are in correct text boxes and that no erroneous characters such quotation marks or white space are entered.
that is a very non-standard error. Something has gone very wrong and so i suggest deleting all joomla files/folders, deleting the database, and trying again. Takes a few tries your first time to get it right.
Actually, after several months I have not made a dime, nor do i suspect I ever will, despite hundreds of signups. I don't do this for money, for if I did I would be very unsuccesful. I have showed hundreds of people how install Joomla/Fireboard/PHPBB/etc, have fielded HUNDERDS of support PM's, and have PERSONALLY installed for many people. Despite your rudeness, I will even help you if you ever need it.
Do you really think that if someone stands to profit off their advice, that their advice is bad? Advice is rarely free. But, My name is on the line here, and I say that 000webhost is solid. I have paid hosting and I STILL use 000webhost to try things out. Also, did you read the comments? No, you didn't bother. A few line down I say that I now also endorse x10hosting as well, where I am not an affiliate.
mysteryentry, I personally challenge you to find a beter free host than 000webhost.
Did you consider WHY I show people how to install Joomla on 000webhost? Because of security issues, it is MUCH easier to install on paid hosting. PS. I do now also endorse x10hosting of which I am not an "affiliate". In many ways x10hosting IS just as good, maybe better, but their Terms Of Service lead me to believe that they are unduly vigilant about enforcing their "no hosting (or even storing) copyrighted material" policy. But again, I recommend that people check them out too.
I reccomend 000webhost and freeweb7, my problem with x10hosting is that I don't believe they give you any databases, and were overall a pain in the a** to sign up on.
agreed. Sign-up on x10hosting was the worst I have EVER encountered (hundreds of 3rd party ads). I also received a spam email moments after sign-up, but I have NOT noticed any increase in spam email since. Their database support is good: I have Joomla and PHPBB up. Their cPanel is just fantastic. So, really just the sign-up issue and their content restrictions on the face of it, but I DO get the feeling that x10hosting like to get signups and then pressure into upgrading.
That's a pretty pessimistic way of looking at things. For the record, I have not made one dime off 000webhost, nor do think I will, considering their terms. To date I have spent MANY hours creating supporting videos (I'm still making them) and taking HUNDREDS of PM's for support. Do you know of any site better than 000webhost? That is a challenge. I PERSONALLY use 000webhost and I endorse it. I then show people how to get up and running with Joomla 1.5, which NOBODY else does.
Ok, Core FTP doesn't work for me also, and i installed Joomla! a few days ago, and had to restart again because of accidentally messing up the logins of the ftp and mysql, when you try and transfer ANYTHING it will not send though. If you want to try and do it, I'll send you my account.
Ok, they now have a "Upload Archive" Option in the upload menu, just upload it with that, and it will auto unzip the file for you. Though, there are some problems, when you do this, you must actualy go into your file host, and go in the installation folder, and run index.php. I tried to go to my site normally and it did not work correctly for some reason. I hope this helps
"Upload Archive" option in 000webhost control panel file manager has always been there, but I don't use it because you STILL need to split up the Joomla install zip, or this wont work (it will fail with error). I use core ftp to transfer files because it is faster, and because with an ftp client you have more direct access to the file system. Also, the 000webhost control panel file manager is stricter about size limits, so while I can upload a large video via ftp, i can't with file manager.
And please do private message me with your login info (you can change your password afterward easily) and I will get this cleared up. I've had 2 reports of ftp not working today.
its probably the size limitation; I explain in the video that 000webhost does not allow files larger than 5 MB (maybe 4). Are you breaking apart the zip file into 2 smaller zips? They should be roughly 3MB each. Also, I can do it for you if you give me temp access. You can change your 000webhost login password any time in control panel. I like to keep up to date on their system and so if they HAVE made any changes for the worse I want to know so I can advise appropriately.
To date, I have never been unable to install Joomla for someone on their 000webhost account, but they keep changing their domains and each time its a little different. I do very much doubt that it's not possible any longer. Just takes some effort to figure out.
I've never seen it be "overloaded". Certianly there is always a que that can make a 10 min wait, but it is outright rejecting you? Again, never seen that and I have multiple 000webhost accounts. Just sign up off-hours if this is an issue.
Yeah, that's just a local issue. Don't have too many programs open at once all using the same resources. You probably just multiple Windows Exporers open.
And, check out this free program that I use all the time (just be careful when you use it)
I know, also is it ok if we don't have the default.php file? Because in mine the default.php file in the ftp is gone and is replaced by admin.php is that ok? Thanks.
Btw thanks for the core ftp help lol, but I figured out right after I asked but thx for trying :)
I dont understand the Core FTP thingy. You kinda went to fast and I dont know how to like copy the 000webhost ftp settings to Core FTP. How did you do it? Please explain thanks :)
thanks, how do u remove the joomla copyright thingy?

Hi!
The same! server 17, only 2000 files?
I was reseted with "Cleanup / Reload Account" but now the ftp quota say 99% 1993 files...??? I only have 1 file now! (index.html), no 1993!?

where are you seeing these quota limits?
alexwestconsulting 3 years ago
In my FTP client, I used Filezzila.

yes, i see:
authorized: 2000 files
authorized: 358400 Kb

First, I was try unzip, but it gave an: "Warning...". After, I try with the FTP Client.
Search in Google: "000webhost 2000 quota 17" there about server 17 thread
I'm sorry for my english.
Maestrojedi 3 years ago
if the the quota is 2000, and you are at 1993 (so it says), try uploading a few files and see what happens.
alexwestconsulting 3 years ago
Thanks, I will be trying ;)

provided to the first part of your video
all the way til Database Config.
I got all my information and copy and paste them
into the correct fields, and after I press next,
I got an error:
Can't create database 'a6277316_aki' (errno: 31) SQL=CREATE DATABASE `a6277316_aki` CHARACTER SET `utf8`
Dr4ag0nAng3l 3 years ago
Go back into the MySQL admin.
MAKES SURE...
that the db is created
that the user is created
that the user is added to the db with FULL permissions
Then when you copy and paste the fields over
MAKE SURE...
that you really are putting them in the right fields (lots of people mess this up)
and that you are NOT copying over any with space at the end of the text strings (this is something LOTS of people get wrong, so try just typing it in)
If you cant figure it out I can do it for you.

I PERSONALLY use 000webhost and I endorse it. I then show people how to get up and running with Joomla 1.5, which NOBODY else does.

Ok, I was just able to use Core FTP again, earlier I don't know what was the problem, but for some reason it started working again.
thesimplesins 3 years ago
ok i got it running i just takes a while to unzip
Jesse18WIC 3 years ago
Ok, Core FTP doesn't work for me also, and i installed Joomla! a few days ago, and had to restart again because of accidentally messing up the logins of the ftp and mysql, when you try and transfer ANYTHING it will not send though. If you want to try and do it, I'll send you my account.

Hold on, im trying something and if it works I will post it.

I hope this helps
thesimplesins 3 years ago
"Upload Archive" option in 000webhost control panel file manager has always been there, but I don't use it because you STILL need to split up the Joomla install zip, or this wont work (it will fail with error). I use core ftp to transfer files because it is faster, and because with an ftp client you have more direct access to the file system. Also, the 000webhost control panel file manager is stricter about size limits, so while I can upload a large video via ftp, i can't with file manager.

And please do private message me with your login info (you can change your password afterward easily) and I will get this cleared up. I've had 2 reports of ftp not working today.

Getting this error at step 4 of the joomla installion process

make sure the db is created
make sure the user is created, added to th db and has all permissions
make sure you are copying the correct names of the db and user (eg. uniqueuserid_databasename)
make sure you copy/paste the right info into the joomla fields
make sure you fill in the joomla host name field with the correct value as cited at the bottom of the page in the 000webhost mysql admin page

it just says failed i dont know why?
Jesse18WIC 3 years ago
its probably the size limitation; I explain in the video that 000webhost does not allow files larger than 5 MB (maybe 4).

Just takes some effort to figure out.
alexwestconsulting 3 years ago
oh and now when i try and upload my files it says failed .... on core ftp
Jesse18WIC 3 years ago
always pass on the exact error message. It is THE single most important piece of information anyone can use to narrow down the problem.

000webhost is allways overloaded and i cant make account
Jesse18WIC 3 years ago
I've never seen it be "overloaded". Certianly there is always a que that can make a 10 min wait, but it is outright rejecting you? Again, never seen that and I have multiple 000webhost accounts. Just sign up off-hours if this is an issue.

im having a problem when i add the files to archives it says
" C:\Documents and Settings\lhautea\Local Settings\Temp\Joomla_1.0.15-Stable-Full_Package.zip: Cannot open flaA3E.tmp
! The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
! C:\Documents and Settings\lhautea\Local Settings\Temp\Joomla_1.0.15-Stable-Full_Package.zip: Cannot open flaA7C.tmp
! The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
"
and nothing is open

Yeah, that's just a local issue. Don't have too many programs open at once all using the same resources. You probably just multiple Windows Exporers open.
And, check out this free program that I use all the time (just be careful when you use it)

I know, also is it ok if we don't have the default.php file? Because in mine the default.php file in the ftp is gone and is replaced by admin.php is that ok? Thanks.
Btw thanks for the core ftp help lol, but I figured out right after I asked but thx for trying :)
LilKyL7 3 years ago
nvm I just created a new 000webhost account so nvm
LilKyL7 3 years ago
anyway, install core ftp.
then go to file>connect.
enter the data that is in cpanels "view ftp settings"
Site Name- doesnt matter
Host- alexwestconsulting .site88 . net for me
username- a2490918 for me
password- password used to log into members area
remember, pause is your friend, and rewind
alexwestconsulting 3 years ago
o, and the spaces in "alexwestconsulting . site88 . net" are only to get around youtubes security. There should be no spaces obviously.
