@waltermcbobom Lol, calm down Mr. "Intellectual"! My comparison was pretty dang applicable. But speaking of inapplicable comparisons, I believe the 'Emo Kid and August Burns Red' one was quite mistaken. I'm far from emo... I listen to August Burns Red all the time and I'm still an all honor's student. I don't see what's so emo about it... Lol.
Great soloing but to be honest no one could touch Denny and Skunk on the original recording. Probably almost my favourite guitar solos of all time. I almost ran off the road the first time I heard it as an 18yo it was that jaw dropping!
@rgiblin6 it is a level of life condition, ichinen sanzen ......mercy too, for us all . i bow to you outta respect for your potential Buddhahood. So theBuddha's in da hood : we just don't realize it.Peace out living long and prospering.

@TheFreakyFunzies I'm 17 years old and have been getting the same thing my entire life! I'm a proud Steely Dan fan, and I know exactly what you mean. Glad you enjoy the video and their music!
@drhey19 19 year old college student, I get shit on too cuz I'm not a fan of lil wayne or any of the other shit on the radio nowadays. Since Steely Dan's music is still appreciated after nearly 40 years, it just goes to show their music is timeless (only the greats last so long).
you know many people dont listen to the music like but thats whats makes music so special :)
if everybody would listen to music like this one then this style would be most popular and it wouldnt have any spirit at all :) btw i have the same problem :) Its just their opinion i dont give a daim :)
I was 13 when i first discovered Steely Dan....I was on a school trip in Auckland, New Zealand, and on the way back they played "Ricky Don't lose that Number"....I was like, omg, I LOVE this
Then, when I could afford my first stereo system, the first record I bought was "Steey Dan's greatest hits"
@TheFreakyFunzies don't let it faze you, same thing happened to me. Luckily I had a bass player and drummer who loved them, we did a few covers at the band concerts... they are all close minded, and I am enlightened pro musician now :)
@TheFreakyFunzies Steely Dan is REAL MUSIC. Relish the fact that you have a lifetime ahead of you to discover all the great music of the ages, now, thanks to YouTube and other sources, it's more available than at any time in human history. It's a glorious thing. Cheers.
@TheFreakyFunzies Thumbs up, kid!, this is one kick A! tune, if you can appreciate this level of music you are on a very especial league! I wish more kids were like you ;)
Great Up... Thanks. Been a fan of theirs forever and ever... Anyone got a live version of (Bye Bye) Dallas or Berrytown???? from the days before Steely Dan when they were simply known as Walter Becker and Donald Fagen.... Great Tracks. Of course Berry Town later became Barrytown...
Regarding the drummer; I believe that's Steve Carlock, who is an exceptional drummer, but SD often chose a particular drummer for just a single song on an album. Gadd, Pocaro, Keltner, Gordon, Purdy..... Who can copy all of them? I remember when I discovered SD, I remember thinking, "I've finally discovered great music!"
That drummer's tone is pretty neat though he has a funny way of playing them. A bit too powerful for Dan's music, I think. Kinda works but...can't beat Gadd or Pocaro.
Super technical guitar player...my emotions take hold of me way too early in these tunes to manage to complete them on guitar...big disadvantage to being a bigger fan than a guitar player....anyone know how to overcome this?....it's been 30+ yrs and I still can't channel it?
Very good. The first lead guitarist loses me for a split second when he modulates his lead down. But that's why I'm here and he's on stage playing the hell out of his guitar. The other guitarist gets crazy on his guitar too. The whole band is good. Excellent.
Haw haw haw haw ... it ain't your drinkin that's got you stinkin, it's your stinkin thinkin that gots you drinkin ...

third and seventeen ... where have you gone, Fran Tarkenton? Look out -- Fagen fadin, seagull comin out of the sun ... so long and thanks for all the fish.
Wow, I never thought I would say this, but the guitars in this song were really weak. Walt usually tears it up on leads but this time neither one of them had it happening. Both solos were totally stiff and way to sterile.
The version of this song on the 'Alive in America' album is the best. It's probably my favorite song ever, the solo is much different (better in my opinion). It has so much more energy.

could be a quote from another fagen song on a solo album - nightfly, or from guitar jazz of that ilk?
I know zackly what you mean.
it sounds like late 50s very early 60s jazz.
kenny burrell? joe pass [was he guitar?] brain is stretched here.
google jazz guitar 50-60s, its a similar sound to kenny burrell and guy on tauhid by pharoah sanders that semi acoustic thing.
mind you, becker loves earlier jazz and doo wop so could be french grapelli maybe?
