My father is a survivor of pancreatic cancer. I've seen how bad it can get and how depressing it can be. This man actually died to it, and he was content the whole time he knew. This man deserves a holiday.
The lecture is great, but the book is much better. Those making comments about Randy being self-absorbed may find themselves feeling contradictory after thumbing through his book...it's an easy read and explains his intent much better.
Sawyer does a good job condensing Randy's Last Lecture. I will share this version with my adult children and know that some of Randy's positive philosophy will rub-off on them. I hope they watch all five episodes. From the suburbs of Philadelphia...Rick Trivane 12-23-10 Merry Christmas to all!
@bofawziii I guess your life has disappointed you. Well, at least you can take comfort by making nasty comments on the internet. When you're gone what will your legacy be?
Why hasn't The U.S. National Cancer Institute tested Rick Simpson's Cancer Cure Hemp Oil. Is it lack of personnel (2,100 staff members) or limited financial support (2010 budget of $5.1 Billion dollars)!
he's telling you want you want to hear and not the cold, hard truth. he did it to sell his books to keep his family afloat after his death. clever motherfucker. his message is bunk but he was smart enough to know that kind of 'feel good' crap sells. very sneaky pausch, well played.
i have bought his book several times i gave it to my brothers , its sad thatt people like him have to die Dr.Pausch is one of the most inspiring persons he will live forever in our hearts
man I totally agree with numrand, and it is idiots like 47zencreative that keep morons like this thinking it is okay to bore us to death with their self-indulged speeches. Like really, just die already.
Are you serious NumRand? Have you read the book? If so then he tells you the real reason he did the last lecture and made it about him? If you didn't get anything from reading his book but you comming out thinking he is self absorbed then that is very unfortunate.
A little self absorbed don't you think?--to literally put on a show for your own benefit to talk about yourself and all of your own accomplishments? It's a horrible example of self indulgence. Dying doesn't give you an excuse for this kind of behavior. Sorry
@NumRand You are so goddamn stupid you ignorant, inconsiderate, moronic imbecile of a man... assuming you are a man... people like you should be the ones dying! It will be one less idiot in the world... eat shit and die you prick!
in case you catch what he said at the end of his lecture. this wasn't for the audience, the head-fake was that this was for his kids. so that when he dies they can get to know their father.
@NumRand He was my professor. I was at the hall. This is the first time I've heard your interpretation about his talk. You felt like it was self indulgence. Yes, you could say that at first glance. But if you really know him, this is a dying man opening up and submitting his entire life to us. He is describing it so we can learn from it, analyze it, love it, live like it. This is kind of like "whole life flashes before him" in an hour thing. It is his GIFT to us all, especially his children.
NO GOD IS NEVER UNFAIR. RANDY IS A GREAT MAN. GOD HAD A PLANNED FOR HIM. HIS LIFE JUST WASNT TO LAST AS LONG AS MOST. HE's PASSED AWAY AND YET STILL CHANGING LIVES. GOD IS NEVER UNFAIR!
His book is AMAZING. my teacher is letting me borrow it. It's very inspiring, just like this lecture. But the book is amazing. Randy Pausch is an amazing man, and his book just...it's so amazing. You'll love it.
I got it on Sunday, I was done on Monday - Great Read, Great Message and lastly A GREAT MESSAGE - Read this book for your own good and for everyone around you -
Can anyone tell me where to get a video on Randy Pausch last lecture series that is still available to see. I was in a class today and they played it and I wanted to show a friend. Thanks
I am glad he did this. I am even happier to see he left this legacy to his children. Mission accomplished... he did a fantastic job for them and they will be proud of their wonderful and brave dad!! RIP, Professor!
Omg that was truely amazing, i litteraly started crying at the end when he told how he was only having this talk for his 3 kids, he is so inspirational.
I agree with him that to be happy or not is our choice. Make our life colorfull, so we'll what we should be which is a humanbeing. I have a father that had just died June,2,2008 because of colon cancer. His mental was not as strong as Randy. As a son I always comfort him and prepare him to his death. If he sad I always remind him Don't worry be happy, now he already release his pain and become one with our God Jesus Christ.
hi to it whom may read this I have HIV is not as bad as this good man had it it but I most say one thing I have to say and agree with him is enjoy people and look for the good in every body
OH MY GAWD! Just under $45,000 has been raised in Professor Randy Pausch's name for Pancreatic Cancer research!! LET'S KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING! You go to firstgiving daht calm forward slash randypausch and you can join the wave of inspiration. Let's do something PHENOMENAL for this man's legacy and really make an impact in researching this insipid disease!
Randy is proof that good can triumph over evil. Honor and truthfulness is what he taught and what he lived. His example will live on even though he is no longer with us and his soul is in his heavenly reward. RIP,to a wonderful man.
He was an avid Star Trek fan. He even has a cameo in the upcoming movie with one line of dialog. In it he says, "Captain, we have visual." THANK YOU Randy! Carnegie-Mellon, we have visual. America, we have visual. Randy... we have visual. Thank you!
i watched primetime tonight and was just in awe of this wonderful husband and father. i just wish we had more people like randy in this world. he is truly an inspiration to all and will be missed.
Check out Rick and Dick Hoyt here on youtube. Type in Rick and Dick Hoyt I Can Only Imagine!Dick Hoyt... Randy Pausch... REAL MEN! If you check it out... grab the kleenex!

I hope to see that fund grow and grow in honor of this man's memory and in hopes of helping others who don't even know they have pancreatic cancer yet!
What?? they couldn't upload the whole video on this program??? what, Youtube doesn't let??? or the TV network doesn't let??? its broken in so many patrts?? I'm mad---(well not too mad, just like Randy coached us :-) right? ) cheers!!
Not only is cancer a terrible disease to get, but pancreatic cancer is the only one that's undetectable until it's too late. Unfortunately, I had to go through this experience with my own mother three years ago. I would just like to say that everyone should live life like "today" is their last day because life is so percious.
God bless him and his family. He enjoyed life all the way to the end. What an inspiration. Such a sad loss. I hope his wife and kids get everything out of their life that they deserve.
Part 3: If anyone tries to shut you down for copyright infringement, fire back with the accusation that they're restricting access to those things that might actually help someone and such restrictions could pose an endangerment to others. I will testify for you if it comes down to it, and whenever required.
Thank you to Randy and everyone he knew. Thank you to YouTube and all those who posted these videos. There are not enough words for the gratitude I feel. Now I'm off to buy a book.
Part 2: Because of my circumstances, the Internet is my access to the entire world in ways that would not have been possible 20 years ago. Were it not for the Internet and YouTube, I would not have been able to see his lecture or know of his book. Had I known of his book, I would likely have passed it over as being just one of the thousands of self-help books out there, many of which are useless. YouTube, please accept this as a testimonial of the power of the public service you do. TBC...
It is programming like this and Randy's lecture that are two of the best reasons to lay off YouTube when it comes to lawsuits regarding copyrights. I have been touched by this man. I have watched his lecture over and over again. I gained insights from the entire run of this interview with Diane Sawyer. That would not have been possible for me by any other means. My life has been enriched by the fact that I found this man on YouTube. To be continued...
Perhaps McCains, Obamas, Clintons and Bushes and the rest of them at the US Congress could learn something about life and living from him; "Tell The Truth", But I doubt it.
had this burning urge to watch it yeaterday ... and the first thing i read on the screen was that he just passed away... i dont think so... he just urged me to brave it all... he ,s all there
Sorry to know he passed away. A brilliant life. The brick walls are there for a reason ... to show us how badly we want something, because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough. They're there to stop the other people.
Thanks Randy and Jai...I still vote that as one you have moved and inspired--I wish I was able to give you a day from me....Bless you and your lovely kids.
After hearing of your "eeyore" and "Tigger" discussion--I now proudly wear a "Tigger" wrist watch each day: This to remind me of the choice in attitude and the presciousness of time itself.
To you, your family--thanks for nudging us to think. And to all folks bravely facing Cancer-& their families too: Blessings and strength to you. Thanks.
