  • I am pretty sure that this song was meant to fit your life.

  • @3ISAMAGICNUMBR It does fit me pretty well!

  • You can tell it took a lot to do this for you. You did a REALLY good job man. Keep up what you do!

  • @ifailonUtube95 Cheers, much appreciated.

  • I come back to this vid time & time again. No one plays it as close to the original as you. You're correct, all the tab and chord pages out there miss the mark. I've been working with my guitar instructor to learn THIS particular version. Your playing is one of the reasons I decided to pick up the guitar. I'd love any notes / "tab" you have on this.

  • @stevev111868 Thanks very much, I'm really pleased that you like this. I don't have any tabs on this at all, unfortunately. Perhaps I will try and produce some at some point. The most important thing is to get the thumb-picked bassline right. If that is in place, the chord part can be quiet or even occasionally missed completely without doing any damage. The chord part is always the top 3 strings, plucked.

  • are u fingure picking it and u should give a lesson video on this amazing song becuase i think all the tabs are bogus

  • @rockenirishguy Most of the tabs I have seen are wrong, which is why I worked it out for myself. I am finger-picking it, but only in a very basic way. The thumb is picking out the bass/tune and the other 3 fingers are just playing 3 notes of a chord together. It just seems to work this way.

  • thank you too. great job... greetings from germany

  • @XellTea Cheere, and hello in Germany.

  • Great tune and good cover.

  • @DSSsongs Thanks, it pleasantly surprises me that so many people like this.

  • @seksdeth Yeah, I have four or five versions but the version you covered is my favorite and besides Oh Brother, kind of a tough version to find...

  • @DSSsongs I'm familiar with the Burl Ives version

  • that beard is full of wisdom

  • @TheDeadRebellion Haha :)

  • Riesentyp!

  • I watch this so much and all my friends love it

  • @prickles25 That pleases me no end to hear, thankyou :)

  • Fantastic, such an American song and you preformed it Great.

  • @petesamd I was conscious of its American-ness and as I'm not American I did it as straight as possible.

  • Very authentic. I love it.

  • @paranormal10ify Cheers!

  • Good shit I totally dig this song and you played it and sang it pretty rad

  • @ericjl515 Cheers mate.

  • very nice, But if you slow it down just a little it will sound much more deliberate.

  • @fstwrtr Good suggestion, thanks. I am slightly faster than Harry McClintock on this version. I normally do it slower.

  • Great really like this..

  • @MultiShades Thanks for leting me know.

  • @paranormal10ify Thanks!

  • Nice job but I've never heard those lyrics. In the Harry McClintock version he says "where they hung the jerk that invented work." Maybe this is a stupid question but did you come up with line about boiling in oil the inventor of toil or did it come from somewhere else?

  • @BigDaveBitches A good question, and thanks for asking. There are many variants of the lyrics and McClintock sang lots of versions himself although the one you mention is the famous one. The lyrics have been cleaned up more and more over the years. One McClintock version ended like this: I've hiked and hiked till my feet are sore And I'll be damned if I hike any more To be buggered sore like a hobo's whore In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

  • wow! i really like this song and you sing it verrrrrry well!

  • @breebreebreeanne Thanks!

  • Well Done!!!! As close to the original version as you can get I think........

  • @Timjka Thankyou, it's such a classic song that I really wanted to do it justice!

  • Awesome job both singing and playing the guitar. Hard to find videos here of people actually singing the songs themselves that are this well done.

  • @sornan005 Thanks, this song suits me nicely.

  • it's funny because he looks homeless:Djust kidding, awesome video!

  • @specialedd13 Cheers! I've tidied up a bit now.

  • Thanks, it's really fun to play.

  • That's awesome, man!

  • Thankyou very much :-)

  • that's actually really amazing. did you learn it by your self?

    P.S. nice couch :-)

  • Thanks very much, and yes I did learn it myself. I don't share your liking for the couch though!

  • would this be considered a folk song?

btw great job its really awesome

    5 stars

  • Thankyou, and yes I think you'd have to categorize it as a folk song. The lyrics of this version are heavily sanitized from the original lyrics.

  • Good job!

  • Thanks, it's a great song.

  • amazing cover, great job, do you have the tabs? -thanks, PrIre95

  • Thankyou. Sorry, I don't have the tabs. The chords are C, F and G, but you'll have to play around a bit to get the bass notes right.

  • Good job sir. xxx

  • Cheers! In the Jailhouse Now next...

  • Thankyou, I stripped it down to the basics.

  • Just fantastic! i love this sing....great cover

  • Thanks, this is far and away my most popular cover.

  • my uncle mailed me the sheet music for this, and I never heard the song before, and he never told me he was sending it, or anything about it. Thanks to youtube and you, I can hear it. Nice job. Of course, my uncle knows I play guitar.

  • It's a fun song to play and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

  • Great! Well done,man!!!

  • Cheers :-)

  • I was listening to some folk music on Last Fm when a scratchy old interview came up with Harry McLintock and an interviewer. To my surprise, Harry broke into song with a version I had never heard. My head had been filled with visions of candy and kid fun and nothin' else around the Big Rock Candy Mountain. Thanks a LOT for the straight version of the song. Now I understand what I missed as a kid....and still love it!!!

  • I'd love to have heard that interview, and thankyou.

  • Thanks :-)

  • thank you so much, you completly made my day. when i heard your video i burst into tears because my grandfather always used to sing this song to me before he died. you do it just like him. you dont know how much this means to me.

  • My effort to sing it in an old style worked then. I deliberately kept it as simple as possible. Your grandfather sounds like a very interesting man. I'm sorry for your loss.

    Tom.

  • Good job, man!

  • Cheers!

  • my little girls love this we listen to your version about 3 or 4 times a week before bed the dance around like little hobos in their nightgown thanks

    Tom.

  • Good job really made me smile i love this song

  • Thanks, I really love this song too.

  • your a good singer can i ask where you got the tabs from ? or did you just learn the song

  • I looked for tabs but couldn't find any, just the chords (C, F and G), so I just started fiddling with those until I got something that I felt worked.

    Tom.

  • great job
