My grandmother once told me that John Mc. Cormack always carried a Rosary Beads In his pocket and said a little prayer before and after his performances. at the age of six I learned his song " The Old House " from an old 78 on an old grammaphone and then sang it in front of the whole class at school. Happy days but John was THE MASTER.
I was raised on John McCormack. He sang me to sleep at night for many years. Thank you so much for posting these. It means a lot to me to hear them again.
when we get to Heaven we will hear him... I heard a story that he prayed before he sang a concert each and every time to thank God for his gift and to ask for the music to be blessed. as we can hear...it truly was.
I am making a cd for my father of the music he loved years ago, like all the vinyl that is no longer there. He is going to love this, thank you so much for uploading.
You just can't beat that scratchy vinyl, echoing sound.
John McCormack was certainly a noteworthy tenor of the last century. This recording supports that assertion. Had he been born this century, with no Caruso or Bjorling to outshine him, he would be heralded as the very best of his time.
@99Gambo I really don't think Bjorling or Caruso out shined him. I personally like both better, but understand the argument that Johnny Mac is the best.
Dear Sir, Thank you for this beautiful video. The setting makes it even more special and authentic. What a great and sensitive singer he was. I've heard he was quite a character. Read the stories in Moore's Unashamed Accompanist. Thanks again!
An exquisite rendition by John McCormack. This version is even more unique in that he sings it in English rather than in the more commonly heard German or Italian. I much prefer this beautiful version. I have another recording of this lovely piece in which McCormack sings two verses rather than just the one heard on this recording. Thank you for posting it.
Oh, so beautiful, just so beautiful. It brings tears to my eyes. Had I been able to hear him sing this live I would have thought I had gone to Heaven already. Thank you very much for posting this recording.
GMaureen, (Sorry for the delay in responding.) Thank you so much for the praise. I too wish I had been able to hear the great McCormack live. He was and is a great musical treasure.

Bikebrains, (Sorry for the delay in responding.) Some sort of YouTube glitch I assume-We're back up and running now. Thank you for your patience and support! I'm pleased you enjoy the recording.
Just lovely. I remember when the John McCormick stamp came out in 1984, I think. I met a person who was a fan as well and we have spent the years since most happily.
A beautiful rendition as sung by the great John McCormack. This song is usually heard in German or Italian and it was very nice to hear the lyrics in English. Thank you.
I have great admiration of MacCormacks music and have studied his life, music and his passing, he was a great tenor and I thank all that have posted his music, I pass his last house that he lived and his grave almost each week and as always I appreciate his greatness in a silent moment to myself

Gracias por subir èste material. Prueba que los grandes cantantes no nacieron a partir de Pavarotti. Muy buena fidelidad, a pesar de sus años. 5*
