Sua Plaina está com o sentido de giro do motor invertido, repare que o braço faz o corte quando o excêntrico está em baixo, repare que o corte está mais rápido do que o recuo
That brings back memories. There was an identical machine in a shop I used to work in. Those machines were built to last forever. Some smart guys in upper mgmt decided the shop wasn't needed so they gutted the place.
You have got this machine running backwards, the bullwheel should turn the other direction, your cutting stroke is fast and return stroke is slow this is backwards also you have no power on cutting stroke, your power now is on return stroke, you could damage machine with heavy cut, reverse any two of your 3 phase wires to reverse motor rotation
these are also great for cutting internal and external keyways but you have to be very careful setting them up to do so, and drill out the end of the keyway first. I used to use one for production doing that instead of broaching them.
Wow, I've only used a shaper once in my life, but watch the damn thing closely and you can see that it's cutting correctly. You can see the tool slightly lift as it returns faster so as the tool is not damaged, and also watch the chip roll off the tool- which direction does this happen??? Forward.
said "You can see the tool slightly lift as it returns faster so as the tool is not damaged, and also watch the chip roll off the tool- which direction does this happen??? Forward."
I believe that would happen in either case. If the bull gear is turned in reverse the ram sitll move back forth and the clapper still behaves the same way. However I believe the is something like 40% more force placed on the gear driving mechanisms and very little gain in production speed. Not wise.
Definately running backwards. The crank should be on the top half of the crank wheel during the cutting stroke. Because the distance the crank travels the closer it gets to the fulcrum is shorter the speed is therefore increased.
Nice vid. Good looking well made machine ,like most yankee gear. The Brit made Butler and Ormerod shapers very nice too.Sadly I havent got room any more, and had to get rid of my little shaper(Alba). Next time we move house ,I'll make sure I get a bigger wkshop!
I agree. Cincinnati are to be lusted for. I'd also love to get a big Butler shaper for home as you can do small work on a big shaper but not big work on a small shaper. Good video showing the bell crank arm in action. A picture is worth a thousand words as they say so I'll shut up now.
i agree ,the 1st rule of recipricating machine tools is it returns faster than it cuts, if you r going to have a shaper its got to be a Butler they are a British design icon not like shitty cincinnati they used to make good millers tho
I'd like to see where this "rule" is written; do you even know what you are talking about? How is a machine suppose to "return faster"? Does it go into another gear for the reverse stroke only? No. The forward cutting stroke may be slower because of the cut with the reverse stroke a bit faster due to no load. You might do a little studying on machine mechanics rather than making stupid comments.
Don't embarrass yourself with your limited knowledge mate. The quick return crank is a simple mechanism used in every shaper/slotter i've ever used, it returns the tool faster by employing a wheel and sliding link, using only a few degrees of rotation to return the tool. not a very good explanation i know but there are lots of good internet sites on the subject. good day
"The ram is adjustable for stroke and, due to the geometry of the linkage, it moves faster on the return (non-cutting) stroke than on the forward, cutting stroke. This action is via a slotted link or whitworth link."
My apologies for the obtuse and uneducated remarks.
You are the one making stupid comments, why do you think it is called a "quick return mechanism" You are the one that might like to study mechanics because you do not know what you are talking about!!
@sspanzerace Does the Cincinnati shaper cut metal? Yes. Easily. Therefore it fulfills its purpose. If you can't make a tool work the way you want it to, then you're dealing with lack of skills not a sh*tty machine.
You're just an asshole from Belgium; what do you and your 3rd-world country know anyway (besides waffles)?! Yes, I've seen your "favorites"...you're a prick.
有问题吧?应该是前进时慢,后退时快。

Could you imagine having to learn how to generate a profile on one of these? The dies for making Mono flatware are still made on manual shapers!

If you mounted a big rubber dick on that thing, you could have a hell of steampunk rape-o-matic.

Hello, Yes for sure the drive motor is running in reverse. Vicegrip33 was quite right.
good pictures

The leverage situation must be very bad to take even a light cut running backwards like that. Ouch.

Do you realise that your shaper is wired backwards and is running in reverce ?
that ram should advance slowly and reurn fast...
you are likely getting no lube in your system...
as the punp is in reverce too.!!!
