To be honest, animals are not a problem. I'm either asleep and don't know when they get there or they never make it. If your concern is about sleeping out of a tent in a hammock...that has not been a problem. Weather isn't an issue either. Happy hiking!
question for ya, ive been thinking about getting a hammock but am worried sleeping in it might be hard on my back. when people are in a hammock it often looks like the person is in a v shape with their feet elevated which i could see hurting my back. id appreciate your insight.
Actually, if you set your ridge line correctly the hammock will feel very much like a bed. You can also lay on a diagonal in the hammock and almost end up laying flat. I haven't encountered any back pain but did when sleeping on the ground in a tent. Hope that helps ;>)
@chrismcnie Depending on what hammock you're using as well as what time of year you intend on using it in will say alot about how you will fare with your back. Typically in warm weather almost any hammock will do. You should get a good nights sleep and as long as you're not in bug (mosquito) central you should be nice and comfy. Clarks, Hennessy and Warbonnets are great hammocks. Look for a product that addresses all of the needs your looking for. Be careful Price doesen't mean better sleep!!!
u generly put up a tarp above the hammock. unless it is not needed dur to weather. when you do this in cold weather hang the tarp as close to the ground as possinbe to iliminate air flow.
I use a sleeping bag BUT as a quilt. I keep it unzipped and use it like a heavy blanket. Good insulation for the backside is provided by Big Agnes insulated air mattress.
what kind of line is the ridge made of? How much tension is on the ridge when you're in the hammock?? I like the Idea, just need some info on how it works.
The ridge line has some Kelvar fibers in it and does not stretch. That's the secret, you want a non-stretch, yet flexible ridge line. The ridge takes all of the tension from tree to tree. Hope that helps ;>)
Toothless - absolutely excellent video! i've watched all but two or three of your podcasts and have enjoyed the integrity and sincerity you've displayed. Along with Shug and Rylan/Goldan, i'm starting to take an interest in hammocks.
@R1200cPhoenix its a southern way to say Appalachian Trail, same place.

Sorry,
The people over 65 in my area, drive Cadillacs, eat at diners 6am in the morning and know as much about technology as squirrels do.
