@hisprincecharming Irish people can adopt as single parents but only married couples can adopt jointly, which automatically rules out gay couples adopting together. Only one of the parents would be able to adopt so there would be no legal relationship with the other parent

I don't think there's anything where you could say that you want somebody who's not your next of kin to be treated as such, I could be wrong though. I am not married to my longtime male partner and when he got very sick, nobody neglected me any information. This is so awful, being judged and separated this way!

Technically gays can already get married. We have been getting married for decades.
We demand the government to recognize our marriages and provide the same 1045 rights, and responsibilities that go with it.
We also demand the right to jobs, housing, and services without discrimination.

There some really random comments being made on this page! It would appear as usual there's a few straight people trying to hijack something gay people feel is important to them! What i often find funny is how see you see single mothers baptising their child as Catholic When the same institution believes it wrong to have sex outside marrige. Some of these people commited some of the worst crimes against humanity and yet we dont allow gay people a simple right.. Strange to say the least

Why does this in any way shape or form mean we need to approve gay marriage? All this means is we should change laws on birth rights and next of kin.

@llbrison Isn't that an awefully complicated way to dance around the issue of just treating people equally? Marriage conveys many rights and responsibilities to those who engage in it and adjusting each of those rights and responsibilities piecemeal and separate from the entire institution of marriage in order to dance around a certain moral squemishness is failing to see something rather important within yourself. @llbrison That is...If you acknowledge that the law treats gays and lesbians unfairly and if you feel that that is a situation that needs to be rectified, then perhaps it would do to consider why you are resistant to the idea. Is it just a "thats the way it it's always been" kind of thing?...after all gay relationships are just as durable and loving as any straight relationships, and our families are just as in need of legal protections. So is this really about approval at all...should it be?

And I DON'T support gay marriage. I can't even claim religion as an excuse b/c there is no God. There are several very logical reasons why gay marriage is illegal and will stay illegal (in most states).

There is no logical reason why marriage should be illegal for all gays and legal for all straights - any logic can really be better suited in ways that don't discriminate against same sex couples.

There is some great ads out there campaging for Equality on Gay rights etc. This one included. simple and to the point. The only question i ask is why do i have to come across these ads on you tube, facebook etc. Why arent ads like this and many other not shown on OUR NATIONAL BROADCASTER????

I know this may sound bad, but those who discriminate others against anything should live their life for at least a day in the others shoes to see why they are fighting for equal rights. Did they deliberately exclude second-parent adoption or legal recognition for children in the Civil Partnership Act or was that some kind of oversight? Seems like a silly exception

This means that if you are living with a same-sex or opposite-sex partner, you may apply to adopt a child in your own right, intending to raise the child with your partner. However, your partner would have no legal rights in relation to the child.
