Seems as though Sgt. Peppers tops most album cover "best of" lists, tho Dark Side is probably the most recognized, by all ages IMO. I was driving with my son and he put in Dark Side and my granddaughter said from the back seat (she's 12) "i love this CD". No wonder it was on the charts 15 years.
Elton John-Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, John Coltrane-Blue Train, Green Day-American Idiot, Elton John-Captain Fantastic...album cover art ruled in the sixties and seventies, not as much anymore...Nirvana's Bleach is cool, too...I guess we all have our favorites
Despite what one might think of the group, one of the most distinctive album covers was Kiss' Destroyer. Also missing from this list was the great artwork from the Cars' Candy-O album painted by the infamous artist Alberto Vargas. It was an iconic image that left an indelible imprint on a generation.
you left out the best one ever...the original yesterday and today album cover by the beatles known now as the butcher cover...pulled from the shelves 24 hours after it was released...go look it up and see....the beatles at what they did best...doing everything first!
@dmcsc5 I dont reckon thats the reason that there are so many pink floyd albums on here. They were incredibly artistic and inventive when it came to that picking album covers
wheres whos next? the wall? any iron maiden covers like number of the beast peace of mind seventh son of a seventh son brave new world a matter of life and death? or megadeths peace sells but whos buying rust in peace? hm the pink floyd live albums a delicate sound of thunder or pulse? appetite for destruction? i mean theres so many better album covers that you didnt put on there. i mean there wasnt a single metal cover on there when metal albums generally have some of the best covers.
Dave Matthews? f that anti american ahole. I will tell you of 2 great covers . Weasels ripped my flesh and we are only in it for the money, both by The Mothers of Invention.
The Electric Lady Land you showed was the British release. The US version was funkier. Goats Head Soup, Thick as a Brick, Passion Play. BTW, the original Doors LA Woman, the cover was clear celophane like and the insert was yellow with their PIC's.
Seriously,no.13 and no.6 were so obscene that I expected virgin killer to be no.1!You obviously missed Opeth-Orchid,Iron Mainde-Seventh Son of a Seventh Son/Number of the Beast/Powerslave,S.O.D.-Bigger than the Devil(in a funny,Number of the Beast parody way) and many mor metal covers, this list had too much Pink Floyd in it!
Hmm, Dark side of the moon not number 1? Sooooo, wrong. Iron maiden would have at least had 1 cover in there when led led had 2 and their crap covers!
Nice list, but I would have included Kraftwerk's Computer World, Green day's Dookie, Prince's Purple Rain & Sign 'o' the Times, N.W.A.'s Straight Outta Compton, Red Hot Chili Pepper's Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Roger Water's Pro's & Cons of Hitchhiking, Yaz's Upstairs at Eric's, Sublime's Self titled album, And of course The Beatles Revolver
I also like Maggot Brain - Funkadelic, Technical Ecstacy - Black Sabbath, Killers - Alice Cooper, London Calling - The Clash, Powerslave - Iron Maiden, Destroyer - KISS and Ozzmosis - Ozzy Osbourne.
no neon park (little feat) covers? no zappa? bridge of sighs? no be bop deluxe? keeping it to one per band might have been a good idea. some of your selections though are just terrible: sex pistols, wheels of fire, supertramp, kansas (might as well have just included a bunch of journey covers), axis:bold as love, beggars banquet, division bell , disraeli gears and who sell out should all not be there. you bypassed dozens of albums of superior art work, originality, controversy, impact and look.
this represents your taste in music rather than the 'best' covers - a bit like kids who do a 'top 30 drummers of all-time' and only have metal drummers and think music only began in 1985.
Great video. Cheap Thrills by Big Brother, is legendary . R. Crumb received only $600 for designing it. Disraeli Gears is a great choice. Sure wish that Electric Ladyland either had the milder version or deleted, as it was a breech of decency to see the controversial cover. I was greatly surprised to see it here.
Good work! Can't resist sharing with other album cover nuts, that we have a third of them produced as beautiful fine art prints by the original cover artists at Hypergallery. Have a little look at our website if you want to see what I mean.
I think that album covers like "Never Mind The Bollocks" wouldn't be considered great if the album itself wasn't so great. So many covers just become classic because of the album itself. Personally I love Revolver and the first Led Zeppelin album because both the album covers are brilliant and so is the music behind it!
Top 15 album covers that should be here: 1. Beatles - Revolver 2. Queen - News Of The World 3. Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed 4. Queen - Queen II 5. Queen - The Miracle 6. Roger Taylor - Fun In Space 7. Queen - Innuendo 8. Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour 9. Gun N Roses - Appetite For Destruction 10. Queen - A Night At The Opera 11. Bowie - Heroes 12. Metallica - Master Of Puppets 13. Rolling Stones - Exile On Main St. 14. Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced? 15. James Brown - Live At The Apollo '62
Oh come on, where are those extreme Iron Maiden's covers?? We love Eddie... They did a great 'cover job'! 'News of the world' by Queen also was a nice album cover...
I totally agree with the Queen, that giant robot holding those people in his hands, while looking up is very beautiful.Queen had good album covers,Innuendo,A Night at the Opera,A Day at the Races,Queen II.
This is a pretty good list. It is much better than Rolling Stone's list. Why do most lists rank Sex Pistols? It is very bold but really not that interesting. One of the best not on the list is Supertramp, Breakfast in America. Eat a Peach by Allman Bros. is another. Nice job especially with the Beatles as 1.
0:29 is not that special. I think you forgot one really amazing one, Dangerous - Michael Jackson. That album cover is the most amazing I've ever seen, I mean every time you look at it you notice something new. I think that one you should have added because it's much better than many of the ones you posted in this video.
If your going for controversy, then John Lennon's "Two Virgins" would be quite high up. And The Beatles "Revolver" and "White Album" should be here as well for artwork and originality respectivly
nevermind must be number one, but sgt peppers is great too. i think you miss "Born in the U.S.A." from bruce springteen and "Ramones" from the ramones.
If you don't think so you're a fucking moron and an asshole. Just in terms of artwork, no one can deny that death metal and power metal take the most talent to draw such detailed pictures. I don't even like death metal, in fact I hate it, but I can't deny the awesomeness of the album covers. So you see I'm the open minded one here and you're just being a douche.
I mean for fuck sakes a fucking banana as an album cover and that's it? A picture of a fucking toilet? How the fuck are these album covers good at all? What the fucking hell??? I'll give you some fucking examples. Death metal and power metal. Not this plain simple crap!!!
TaterfightingMMA has a valid point. Most of these covers have had a much greater cultural impact than any Death Metal covers I've ever seen. And it's not just detail that matters, it's design.
Take a look at these album covers: Frank Zappas, "Weasels Rip My Face" Herb Albert "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" Emerson Lake and Palmers, "Brain Salad Surgery." Beck, and the Sex Pistols covers are more "Original" than these covers???
completely bias. All you had were the Beatles, the Who, Rolling Stone, Hendrix, and Pink Floyd; when there are plenty of other spectacular album covers out there, which I'm pretty sure beat some of them that you shown (e.g. Joy Division's Unknown Pleasure).
Illmatic by Nas has one of the most meaningful album covers ever

completely bias. All you had were the Beatles, the Who, Rolling Stone, Hendrix, and Pink Floyd; when there are plenty of other spectacular album covers out there, which I'm pretty sure beat some of them that you shown (e.g. Joy Division's Unknown Pleasure).

how about "get rich or die tryin"? as much as i hate 50 cent, i must admit the cover to that album is pretty cool.
