  • Linux only makes sense as a headless server. For anything else, Linux is a pain.

  • You are my hero . Although i use linux but the community is so arrogant that u want to praise windows just to f***k with their minds

  • You Suck! You Suck! You Suck! You Suck! Kurt Angle style, bitch!

  • @frankennstein

you are just proving his point, suck that.

  • finally a linux user who has sense!

  • I just do what works for me. I was a windows power user for a very long time until I switched to Linux. I don't have any opinions about distros, and I am more than happy to give people one-on-one attention when it comes to helping them with linux for the first time. I don't think I'm better than anyone else...all I know is that the way I do things is superior for ME and MY needs. I make recommendations based off of that, when I see people that have the same needs and wants as I do from their OS.

  • the linux community dislikes you.. lmfao.. i have never experienced what you have said.. lol.. nothing is really confusing.. its like legos.. if you have creativity and an IQ above 80 you can do a whole bunch of cool things with it

  • Go stick with windows then.

I dont like the windows community for the same reason as you say about the linux community

  • I, like the rest of the other comp users, was a windows user UNTIL i really got sick, tired and fed-up on all the viruses and all of the other crap that came w/ it because of windows (i had AV & still got viruses!) so i migrated to using Linux. It was the best $1.99 (S&H Included) i ever spent my money on & i never looked back after that. Now i Totally Despise Windows cos of their Monopoly on the Whole computer OS market, making us believe that they're the only OS. BULLSHIT! F@#K @ Bill Gates!

  • Hello. By the way, It's GNU/Linux.

  • OS's are like programming languages. If it suits what you do then they don't suck. I use Linux and Windows for different things. PHP and Perl for different things.

  • But PC-BSD is pretty newb friendly, 9.0 is gonna be great.

  • You do have to know the CMD line in BSD so it isn't for pussies tho.

  • Try FreeBSD, it pretty much handles all your complaints.

  • try fedora 16, its perfect

  • i wonder when linux 3.0 comes out

  • @stealthgerm Its out already

  • @stealthgerm It's already out

  • LINUX ONCE DESTROYED MY MONITOR ! I was installing red hat one day but bcoz linux is not intelligent like windows it could not pick up in-depth frequency in mhz of my monitor and within 2 - 3 weeks it faded in to a blur. LINUX IS CRAPWARE! i will smash every linux out there!

  • @The2010Review Um, use Ubuntu. It's probably the best distro of Linux out there. Easy, intuitive, and WIDELY supported. I've installed it on two computers in my house, one that is 7 years old, and one that is about 3 years old. No issues, hardware or otherwise. I dual boot it with Windows 7, and, honestly, as soon as I can get my Adobe editing software to work properly in WINE, I'm probably going to scrap Windows 7 altogether.

  • I think it's that kind of criticism that takes the Linux forward. User Linux is not resigned! Windows users are accustomed to swallow the shit without complaining. They think they have the perfect system.

(I am brazilian user. Sorry for my poor English!)

  • Nobody really cares its another opinion video i preffer pc for my home use mac for my work uses and linux for dowloading and sharing files

  • Agreed! but i jus try to have lil fun playin with the distros.

  • for a regular user, none of your points are valid.

BTW after three comes four not five ;)

  • Good video. We do need to fix a lot of the issues your talking about.

  • Linux definitely is definitely not a viable option for the majority of people as a main OS yet, i doubt it ever will be.

The sound structure is absolutely silly. Fine when it works but if it doesn't, it's a pain.

In my experience, both the windows help community and linux community have been really friendly and helpful.

I use windows mainly, but I use a lot of GNU software and I'm glad linux exists.

  • Lol, at least it's better than the Apple "community."

  • i have been using linux since 1996 and i completely agree with you lol.

  • Dude, you nailed it. Linux users want it to be the king of the desktop (which is quickly being killed in favor of mobile OSes anyway), but they berate anyone who asks a dumb question. But by the same token, Linux is a mess. They can't pick a standard. They don't want.one. They want choice. But you can't have it all. And it confuses any user who is curious about Linux who IS interested in getting away from M$ or Apple. They're their own worst enemies. Linux - great server OS. Shit desktop OS.

  • Give me your ip address and i'll show you why linux does not suck :)

  • yes, i'm a windows user, but i have a 15 yrs old headless linux server in the next room to serve my php scripts, files, and to download all sort of stuff. I appreciate both Win & lInux for their intended purposes..

  • God if I gave linux to my dad or mom they would die.

  • @jeffreybowling50 it's not an std

  • @jeffreybowling50 i gave them a netbook with ubuntu 11.10, and they liked it and they are total noobs in linux

  • @WaffleEgo ummmmm okay

  • @WaffleEgo I'm a heavy ArchLinux user, please tell me why it sucks compare to Slackware instead of throwing a empty argument.

  • Very valid points, some of which Bryan Lunduke mentions as well in his "Why Linux Sucks" speech. I for one value my freedom more than having the best audio system (although Pulse has been perfect for my usage) or a unified packaging system. But you're right about the bashing, that is unnecessary. A llittle Apple or Microsoft bashing is all good, but bashing other distros than your particular favourite is only doing harm to the community. Please confine your Bash-ing to the terminal;-)

  • what are u talking about puppy linux is awseome!

  • The thing about linux is that you have to do every single thing yourself. Becoming a Programmer. It is getting better through but eh, screw it.

  • 10 fastest computers in the world run Linux, coincidence? lol

  • You don't want Linux? Linux doesn't want you ^.^

  • Pros:

    1)FREE! 2) customizable 3)Not CPU exhaustive 4)very Secure5)Faster than windows during operation!

    Cons:

1)sucks HARD!2)too much configuration involved3)lack of support for many issues4)too much time spent on dependencies/configurations/lackTHEREof5)some software sucks HARD6)more time spent on other shit, instead of GETTING WORK DONE

    CONCLUSION:

I'm wiping Linux from my HDD->installing WINDOWS 7(for WORK PRUPOSES!)->Might dual boot Linux(for Play ONLY!)

    REASON:

I gotta get some WORK DONE!

  • @jcash365 Hell Yea

    The Pros Use Linux

    Windows Are For The Retarted.

    Macs Are For Pussies

    Linux Are For The Badasses.

The Reason He Tlks So Much Shit Is Because He Has Been Babied With Windows All His Life

Listen DarkOne778 Leave Linux To The Pros

  • Linux seemed to only get bad recently for me anyway, it might be different for someone else but if I can't get my Wireless working then whats the point?

  • @Ograws A copy of my wireless config file for home: CONNECTION='wireless' DESCRIPTION='A simple WEP encrypted wireless connection' INTERFACE='wlan0' SECURITY='wep' ESSID='Fakesurname Family' KEY='MADEUPKEY' IP='dhcp' # Uncomment this if your ssid is hidden #HIDDEN=yes ## Uncomment if you are using an ad-hoc connection #ADHOC=1 Let's see changing Windows settings in the place Windows reads them from be THAT SIMPLE. Install ARCH LINUX (1337455357 distro) ALWAYS referring to the ARCH WIKI.
  • @MarkJr92892 I've been told about Arch Linux and it seems okay which the best package manager

  • dude you make me laugh because that thing windows do, windows is the O.S that becomes slow i have the two O.S and i can tell you something :linux never become slower for me if your performance becomes your pc slow you did something wrong im a windows user and i can tell you you're a liar linux is faster thanks

  • @theguru4allofyou There must just be something wrong with your install, because linux is crazy fast on my pc.

  • Btw who would want a gay penguin for their logo?

  • Yea someone who agrees with me

  • great video dude. i only installs linux on a before century computer. y? bcoz windows does not support them anymore. if windows do, ill go with windows..

    again, great vdeo dude

  • the reason Pacman is so vast is so you can design your environment to fit you personally. if there was one OS envo for the entire community then basic users would pay more for something they won't use, or high-demand users would be crippled by the lack of pre-installed packages.

  • Your right I feel that some communities for more advantaged distros can be jack asses some things. Also the sound systems need to be fixed in linux as they have too many layers.

  • I agree with you and im a long time Linux user. Unfortunately, lately Linux communities are hijacked by rebelious users who care only about politics. Thank god they arent the ones building distros. Sound is always an issue but I personally havent had too much trouble. Debian, Suse and Ubuntu have announced they are working on a unified software manager with one type of package. Besides the few idiots on forums, if theres a problem, file a bug, it cant be fixed otherwise

  • Lennyx could care less about grammar?

  • hey man YOU COPIED BRYAN LUNDUKE'S SPEECH ON "why linux sucks" loser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrEwittersheim No he does, and I agree with him. I use linux and love it, but it does have it's issues.

  • Windows 7 Professional/Ultimate FTW!

  • your completely true about the sound, if it doesn't work then your fucked.

don't blame the thousand packages, it's because there are different linux distros. That means they're different os's but you just call them "linux" in general.its like a ubuntu user saying "those commercial oses suck" because you have packages for mac and packages for windows and packages...

there are distros with a release cycle that is every couple of years... they're a completely diff os but you call them again "linux"

  • Most distro now have a software market.... that kinda fixes installation problems,

    right.

I think Linux really needs to step up... A lot of linux users want to keep it underground and this little project... just an excuse to not have responsibility

  • The problem i have with Linux is Bug regression. Stuff that worked in a previous version suddenly stops working after they "fix" it. if i could say one thing the Linux Developers. it would be this. " STOP FIXING SHIT THAT ISN'T BROKEN ' i think that about sums it up. :-)

  • Linux, cannot be treated as a competitor to windows because it's not, it's not part of the share because it's not intended for use to be sold in a store. Linux should not be treated like an individual OS, because it's not. The fact of the matter is that Linux is an OS kernel, many GNU/Linux operating systems have their individual names "Ubuntu/fedora/red-hat" THOSE are operating systems. To say that Linux by it's self is "Not under friendly, has lot's of bugs" aren't valid arguments.

  • @kingdomeyes Don't know who says Linux has bugs... the apps that are in SoftwareCenter in Ubuntu has loads of bugs, but Ubuntu itself I think is quite stable and reliable. The fact that the apps kinda sucks is because the programmers do not earn money on them (exept for programmers at Google). But that is up to Canonical to make an app store.

  • if you don't like Linux, you can stay such as slave for bill gates

  • @ZidbrikFans This is a common, but idiotic argument brought up by Linux fanboys. There are many people that pirate Windows operating systems and have no problems in doing so.

  • @ZidbrikFans I dont agree and have been a Linux user for a loooooong time. Linux has a lot of problems and you are one of those, no disrespect intended. It's not about who owns a company or how they run it. If you like Windows then that's what matters, if Linux is your thing then brilliant. But theres nothing more to it. And sorry to say but, what makes you so special that people should care about your view on Microsoft? I don't even know you so you cant be that special

  • @ZidbrikFans r u an idiot. bill gates does not even work at microsoft any more

  • @ZidbrikFans there are macs moron thats what i got 1500 worth of pure linux killer

  • @ZidbrikFans k we will :D

  • @ZidbrikFans He explains at the beginning he is a Linux userrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!

  • @ZidbrikFans U kiddin me? Mac is the way to go bitch.

  • I have NEVER used RTFM when I explaiend something for another user. Never. And RTFM is the MAIN reason that Linux will never ever be more than it is now. Maybe it will be even less. It's a shame, because it is a good OS, but no. It will never take off. Linux will never be more than it is now, and noone outside "the geeks" will ever take it seriously either..

  • @htmlmm

I think Linux has a good future, but only in the server/smart phone/tablet market.

  • You always hear "There is no such thing as a dumb question". Well... in the Linux community there is. And RTFM is pulled every so often. Even if you write that you come from Windows and have to have it explained easily. It's just RTFM. And the manual often sucks, because it's assumed that you have experiense yourself. Every explanation missing half of it, because "it's something everyone know".

NO they don't. But linux community will never learn, and linux will never be more than 1% of market.

  • It sounds like most of your issues are with some of the people in the Linux community, not the OS itself, you can't blame Linux for their behavior.

  • @Firestormify First off you suck. Second there is no my computer icon in Ubuntu you retard and third you can copy anything you want by dragging it to the desktop. You used windows all your life and then decided to say linux sucks because you tried it for 1 day with zero experience in a new environment. As for the guy who made this video, he should realize the package manager is the best way to get software and it's one of the reasons that make Linux very secure. He should go smoke more crack.

  • @thomasfan69 You're very much mistaken. Maybe you're just stupid.

  • Comment removed

  • @thomasfan69 You are just plain retarded. Everything you said came out of what the Best Buy employee told you or Bill Gates ads.

  • @NoBSODforme526 I'm not retarted, Your just a linux fanboy. Noob. and Nothing I said came from A best buy employee or Bill gates, So leave me alone. Ok?

  • @thomasfan69 Yes you are retarded. You spelled retarded wrong, you spelled You're with a your and you are a dumb windows fanboy saying people who use Linux are poor such as Mark Zuckerberg who created facebook. Along with many other wealthy people who used Linux to make sites like Google, Youtube etc.. Get educated kid. You should start with spelling. Also windows is for a Noob like you with horrible writing skills.

  • @NoBSODforme526 It's called a Typo and I'm not a noob, you are.

  • @thomasfan69 A Noob at what? Please tell me?

  • I just wonder why half the people here from both sides of the barricade are acting like morons.

  • Linux does have some problems, but it's a bit like democracy, it's the worst operating system, except for all the others.

  • you're a fucking moron madafucker!!!

YES LINUX SUCKS...BUT STILL IT'S WAY BETTER THAN THE GARBAGE THAT MICROSOFT SELL'S FOR 200BUCKS, AND LINUX ITS 100%FREE, YOU GET WAY BETTER OS FOR FREE THAN WITH YOUR 200BUCKS!

IM USING UBUNTU 10.10 AND ERASED MY WIN7(BUT I'VE PUT BACK MY XP 64BIT).

I'D SAY UBUNTU IS A LOT BETTER THAN WINDOWS AND ITS FREE!

  • yes, standardization needs to be solved. would solve so much (but still not enough)

  • @MetalShreader a lot of problems would be fixed if the big distros got together and standardize

  • Thanks for the video. My thoughts exactly.

  • Not picking on you - I had the same issue with sound being in synch with Video - I tried the Matroska format - it worked better for me.

  • LINUX SUCKS, DIRECT X 11 FOR LIFE!! WINDOWS IS BEST

  • PulseAudio has been getting better exponentially.

  • Linux all distros are garbage, the developers are idiots, they cant even write a good operating system.

  • *buntu releases are every 6 months...

Gentoo, Sabayon, Arch linux are rolling release distributions, which means it's basically updated without installing over 'previous' versions

  • Also, thanks for this video; the Linux freaks out there hav really sabotaged the greater success of Linus Torvalds vision. Instead of bringing us all together within a functioning, workable and low maintenace environment, the LINUX evangelists have fractured support by their wish to NOT encourage a stable working model, instead it remains a beard stroking, basement dwellers Hobby kit. I have dealt with Linux for over a decade and it's a shame those in the industry are often so unhelpful.

  • Linux will eventually lose out - as will all the OS environments popular today. The market will demand a shift to the idiot proof and within a generation this will be the standard market template. Computers of the future will be much more like Games consoles are today and program applications will ultimately float on a fast light OS/BIOS like environment. I will be thankful for this as people waste too much of their lives arguing over the Toolboxes in our lives rather than doing any Work.

  • Everybody who thinks Linux suck! It's becuz they dont know how to use it..

  • then I'm a super smart person because looks really easy to me I insist gnu/linux is reaaaaaally easy to used and manage. even my 12 year old sister use the system and no problem ( no joking)

  • well I think these guys it's looking for a windows machine, maybe you must just use only one distro.. you are talking about an opinion you have. no offence but you must just use your distro

  • 6:18 this man speaks truth fanboys loved dat cool aid (Arch Linux and Ubuntu User)

  • 6:18 this man speaks truth. Fanboys just love dat cool aid

  • 6:18 this man speaks truth

  • I love linux but this guys is kinda saying the truth in some points...but I already got used to Linux how it works...so.....whatever.

  • me too, can work with simple NTFS hard drives. Wtf. It looks that all linux users are virgins with no life who spend their days learning all those gigantic amounts of code you must program in order to do simple operations. holy shit. im not even going to describe blu-ray videos. its just terrible. all that super light OS cant use all that free power to play the video without lagging?

  • @Avatarass well man maybe you must just use your Os and never used Gnu/linux. but I haven't any problem with my videos or those stuff you wrote here . ahhh you don't need get to a programmer in order to used GNU/linux. make some research or use some distro. see ya

  • @Avatarass

"im not even going to describe blu-ray videos."

Why not? It's not a secret that there is no easy-to-use implementation because if you tried to actually do that without paying obscenely high licence fees you'd get sued.

  • @chrisxy123 As a consumer, I dont care about that crap. I pay 100 bucks and get something that works just perfectly in all aspects.

  • @Avatarass

    YOU don't care... That's obious.

    theregister. co. uk/2006/03/21/dmca_exemptions_controversy/

What is your proposal to make legal blu-ray playback on linux?

Hint: As of today there is no way.

  • I hate Linux. It's so bad.

  • @tinzovideo have you ever use it? maybe your phone its using some linux Based system and maybe you love it. youtube runs on Gnu/linux or maybe your skills are really stupids

  • @hellertytus Yes, I have used it (I finally got it on my laptop after days of trying). I don't have a phone. I don't care what Youtube runs. My skills are perfectly fine (oh and its "stupid" not "stupids"). I hate anything that will not install on ALL of my computers after days of trying and talking with the Linux support community. Thanks

  • I agree with you, all package formats should be eliminate but one. Can't agree that all distributions should keep the same release cycle tho. Not only would many fail but they would do so on epic proportions. Many distors have few contributers thus it would end up buggy and incomplete. Others have many but would just complain because it's not completed. Maybe something with a rolling release would be something for you?

  • Linux is just a fancy way of viewing meaningless abbreviations. gnu, kde, tar, gtk, pkg, lib, usr...etc. Why so many bloody abbreviations!!! how hard is it to spell out a damn word such as, "user, library, etc." that agitates the most. its adds so much confusion. you have to get a translator just to understand what your looking at.

  • @mrperson123

    usr isn't 'user'

usr is a directory thats part of FHS.

    It's 'unix system resources'

  • @mrperson123 lmfao usr doesnt stand for user idiot it stands for unix system resources lol woooooow

  • @mrperson123 Well, typing "cd /usr/lib/foobar" is easier than typing "change_directory_to /user/library/foobar".

You eventually get used to it, and if not, then working in terminal is just not for you.

  • @olegator5 "You eventually get used to it, and if not, then working in terminal is just not for you."

terminal is not for me just like the rest of 90% of ppl. this is one reason y linux fails.

  • @mrperson123 its called efficiency, nerds are smart ;)

  • @mrperson123 so is MSSQL, MSAPI, MSXML, even "NT" stands for "New technology". bullshit.

  • @mrperson123 when it started out it was programmed and if you keep having to type out full names it is very time consuming, therefore its mostly abbreviated.

  • @mrperson123 it's not up to the Linux community to educate you on simple acronyms.

  • @mrperson123 It's because Unix is old, and started out before it ever had a GUI. Since you had to run computers only with text-based terminals, tell me, is it easier to type in lib or library? Abbreviations are still used today by programmers, or generally whenever somebody uses text-based input and doesn't want to spend all day writing commands.

Modern-day Linux servers also generally run without GUIs, so again, it makes more sense to abbreviate then to type in entire words.

  • that people do in the comunity is amazing. you are stupid for making a video. there trying, its not like they are sitting there picking there nose. here is the thing WE are linux and supporting our distro and linux in general so us saying linux is better than windows is a good thing. everything is free and we shouldent all conform to a release scedual for diffrent distros cause they dont even have part in what eachother say. the comunity is what helps you learn linux not be a asshole.

  • i agree with they are fucking wankers when a question is ask no supported driver

fucking around all day trying to find shit fuck sakes

  • have fun with viruses or expensive system then

  • you remind me of quentin tarantino for some reason

  • >> For artist WACOM tablet works correctly in Linux, Genius tablet doesn't work correctly... So if you have Genius tablet you're screwed...

  • really how many package programs are out there for windows, 7zip, winzip, exe, lzh, arc, etc.. hey man all to their own, if you want only one package system then stick with one distro ,dont mix & match, what you need is a what you see is what you get operating system then thats your choice, some of us want it our way, and we will get it our way, that is where freedom comes into play. you say not to use that word but its true.as for repositories they are updated regularly, m$ once a month.

  • @OSyTim I disagree, lol

Just kidding. I guess this is my controversial account now... I guess this is in case things get out of hand people that watch my main won't get annoyed.

But, I replied to your comment with this account as a joke... "anyone who disagrees with you is just a freetard troll"

I figured it will be funny if I disagreed.

  • I'm sorry windows 7 doesn't work on asus 1000HA, missing drivers a 700MB RAM allocation without apps running. Ubuntu 10 just perfect!!! The lack of harware suport is on windows side!!!

  • Linux sucks.

  • @gmcbuses Windows number 1.

  • Constructive criticism could be a little less abrasive than "Linux sucks". O.o

Anyhow, the Linux kernel and the OS(s) built around it are amazing, but support sucks. Use it, or don't. End of story.

  • It's not so much Linux itself that sucks, but the software does. I agree about the almost non-existant hardware compatibilty, that's something that needs to be fixed. Plus most people in the Linux community are all trolls, fabiofloripa159 and many other trolls have been flaming everyone including me, who has said something against it.

  • I love Windows 7 but I no longer have Internet Explorer on my 2 laptops as I have uninstalled it completely, some thing I do not regret doing. But this has not effected my Windows system in the least,as everything is working. And it is possible to run Windows without IE,as in Europe,Windows computers are being sold without IE.With another browser as an alternative. Andrea.

  • @andrea22borman Window is the best. It is neat how you uninstalled the internet explorer. It could be internet explorer 9 is much better. I think Google Chrome is the best. I also like Firefox. Safefox is good.

  • "Those who find Linux complicated haven't ever tried to go out with a girlfriend."

  • you sound frustrated bro, same here linux sucks!!!

  • @Dobrinabebe Its not about be frustrated at all I still use linux on a daily basis. All I am saying is that these are issues. So when they are brought up it is like touching the third rail in politics. So then the Linux Zealots get all up in arms when you mentions what needs to be fixed.

  • @darkone778 every computer, operating system and apple pie I ever tasted fucking sucks.

  • linsex epic fails

  • @TheLifelessPlanet gave up immediately ha hardly Im giving you this response from ubuntu moblin remix right now. I am saying that these issues are issues that the community seems to want to ignore and give the typicial elitist answer of like your above statement of google it or thats already been asked in the forums. This is what turns me off to dealing with certain aspects of the Linux community. this are not small problems. These are things that are not discussed enough.

  • @darkone778

try linux mint, its an out of the box experience.

  • @MrTabby5000 lol I still run linux running mint kde on my desktop and running ubuntu moblin remix on one of my laptops

  • @darkone778

ok, but the problems I had with ubuntu was the fact of no codecs in the ubuntu install,Mint has almost all the codecs in the installation. For the newbie mint is best until the newbie learns about the repositories and command line.

Fedora has a script to install all the codecs at their forums.

  • @MrTabby5000

I know richard stallman dont like anything but free software on the linux systems, but life doesn't work that way.The newbie wants to install first and learn later.

I was a newbie 8 months ago,and learned about the repositories and the command line.

  • Linux is not user friendly at all. And every time I have tried different brands,Jolicloud,Ubuntu and Linux Mint,I have always had problems. Among many, cannot connect wirelessly to the Internet, cannot find or install software in the packages and also it is just not working properly. And there is no way to sort it out like on Windows. Where you can do recovery and other things to repair your system. Windows is better because it is easy to use with out any problems. Andrea.

  • @andrea22borman What exactly is Linux. Is it better than windows. Why replace what already is perfect.

  • @andrea22borman user friendly is relative andrea I would say that nothing is user friendly be it Windows OS X or the various Linux Desktop environments. Windows is considered "user friendly" only because its what everyone for the most part use.

  • I have discovered Linux mint 9 a few days ago and I seem to be getting on with it okay. The web browsers are all working unlike Jolicloud where a lot of them did not. And I am browsing the web and the web camb and built in microphone works. But I think you still need to keep Windows on your computer. As Linux is all right for browsing and simple things but most software is only compatible with Windows. And Windows is easier to use. So you still need it. Andrea.

  • @andrea22borman

No,windows is nothing but a virus magnet.

  • Well,I have Windows 7 and I have never had any viruses. A lot of people confuse Windows with Internet Explorer, which I never use, and have gone one step further. I have uninstalled IE from my system,so it is not on my computer any more. The new Windows 7 is very safe and secure. Try it if you have not already. Andrea.

  • @andrea22borman

I just buy a new motherboard, for my desktop, buy a used refurb laptop and use linux mint.

Saves hundreds of dollars,my new desktop motherboard cost me only $100.00 with memory. My laptop is a used one and only cost $200.00.The economy you know.

I'm not paying for windows anymore.

  • @MrTabby5000

In the dial up days it did suck because of incompatibility with analog modems, but with wireless its getting better.

  • @andrea22borman Windows is the internet, the best, why mess with perfection.

  • @darkone778

I agree with you. First off I just want to say I hate Windows and Mac but for the same reason I hate those OS's is one of the same why Linux will never(unless changes occur) hold water. Freedom is a wonderful thing but everything in life needs structure. Linux is missing that. Whooaa... open source... everyone do what they want. Has no one read "Lord of the Flies" ... there has to be some conformity. I'm with only one distro... but I hear what you are saying. Informatory. Stand as 1

  • @darkone778 um no. everyone uses windows cuz its easy, not the other way around. case in point, it takes me 10 sec to update flash player on windows. it takes me 20 min to read on how to install flash in linux, then 10 min actually installing it. yea totally user friendly is very subjective :-/

  • @vlptr while this reply is rather old I will say what I have said before about ease of use. Ease of use is relative to the end user. and if Every area of the OS is so well documented then maybe you should go tell the WINE guys that. They might give a different take on that argument

  • @darkone778 I can't say linux is that friendly right now I am trying to download just a simple audio program because ubuntu does not come with one that will read encrypted files and when I go to say amarok's site there's no way to download it I go to the download button and then it takes me to a wiki where I can't download anything?????? WEIRD! and its that way on almost all alternative audio or dvd program sites! What do I do????

  • @anewlow23 my point about Linux sucking was that these are issues the Linux cmmunity as a whole usually does not want admit to. Now as far as your problem . IF you are using most distros try using the Package Manager to install programs. Look for Amarok, Banshee, Rythembox, VLC player, as well as many other programs. The wikis tell you how to add links to the package manager if you want to get the most up to date, i.e. bleeding edge, as opposed to the one available in package manager normally.

  • @andrea22borman If you know how to fix things in Windows you "can"(or rather should) be able to fix it in Linux, the method is slightly different, it all comes down to learning the method. But hey the same could be reversed if you had used a Mac your whole life and gone to windows no? Regarding you're wireless network card, Brodcom(which would be the one making the chipset you most likly have) are making drivers now, so hopefully that will be a problem that will end soon.

  • @andrea22borman Those are all Ubuntu based, so you tried ONE distribution essentially. Try grabbing Mandriva or another RPM based OS.

  • @andrea22borman of course linux is not user friendly because linux is just a kernel. now if you you are talking about the whole system wish is Gnu/linux you are a complete mistake, maybe some years ago was really hard but not today. please make some research or even use some distro
