  • i love that Shaving Brush Plant i think its so cool i always wanted to get one but they all way's seem to look like there dieing but yours looks rely great and its so cool its growing a new bud !... =]

  • @CandyFishRave - The shaving bush does die. What happens is a new shoot comes up near the plant. When the new shoot is about 2" or so, I take out the original plant. This seems to be the cycle of the plant. For me anyway.

Funny on the hail storm. They can really cause some damage.

  • @adjusterfrank rely wow thats cool!.. =]

and ya hail storm it was funny but there was no damage this time good thing 2 =]

  • Did you use the sugar fine reef sand on your tank, if so what brand and did you rince it first?

  • @gmoney1961 Yes, I used sugar fine sand from Natures Ocean. Also, do not rinse the sand. There is no need.Just be prepared for this sand to blow all over the place. With certain fishes this sand is not the best choice.

  • We all need Rambo or Rocky!

  • @mkaywilson haha, Thanks!

  • Very informative video. Your reef looks amazing as well.

  • @mkaywilson Well, the jury is still out on this one. My wife tells me that the Cyano is back with vengeance. Lol

I hope to be back this weekend. I will make a video with in the next couple of days.

Thanks for watching and the comments.

  • Nice tank

  • @letmeshowuhow2stunt - Thanks for the nice words.

  • Hope you will win this battle!

  • @MyReefLiving Thanks Tony. I am sure that i will. Just a bit tougher being on the road. Hope all is well with you. BTW, Happy belated Fathers Day!!!

  • Great tank :D, Man do you rinse out your frozen cubes with RO water? You should because inside the cubes have phosphates and dirty water. Just get a brine shrimp net and rinse them out very good until they melt, ect. Then target feed them :) But other then that try get a diamond goby. I use them and man they help soo much with my sand! They clean it very well! Good luck man :)

  • @OMGCichlidsFTW Not as of yet. I guess that I will start to since it can't hurt. I will also research the Goby some more and may have to get one.

    Thank for watching and commenting.

  • Keep it up mate, u wil win from the cyno soon.

  • @nlreeftank thanks bro. Glad to have you watching.

  • Nice video. I agree here that it is best never to use medication. This cyano growth is a normal part of New Tank Syndrome, and expected. In your case, the addition of the clean up crew consuming the diatoms and green algae have forced cyano to take over in the absence of the others. Cyano has no natural predators and so controlling the nutrients is the only way to defeat it. Would not recommend lowering the lights too much for the sake of the corals but instead use phosphate media. Good luck.

  • @newyorksteelo Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. I only lowered the lights from 15hrs to 10 hrs. So, I think that they were on too long anyways. I wanted the Actinics to come on and off twice per day but I am having issues with the mulit timer in the RKE. It will get there. I have also cut way back on the feedings.

thanks for the kind words about the video.

  • Your defiantly on the correct path and it should clear up soon. That Cyano is a pain period. Oh I also got a UV sterilizer which I really don’t know if it helped with this or not cause I treated the system aggressively with the other stuff I mentioned but I figured it couldn’t hurt to use one, so far all is still going well. Good luck to you..

  • @Rfritz09 Well, your about the 3rd person that suggested to get a goby. So, this might be something that I have to seriously look into.

I planned on a UV sterilizer just haven't gotten one yet.

As of the Rowaphos, I did not get a chance to put it in yet. I am still with the GFO. If the Cyano comes back after I am gone for the next 10 days then this will be one of the first things that I do.

    Thanks for the help!

Any new vids coming out soon? I love your huge system! :)

  • @adjusterfrank welcome, The next Video I make I'll make sure the Goby is in it :) He is fun to watch also. Thanks for the compliment.

  • This worked for me... put in ROWAphos Remover in your reactor. I like this media cause once it exhausted it will not release phosphates back in your tank which is great for you cause your gone for days at a time. I also got a Diamond Back goby which is fine with your sand. Within a week or two the Cyano was gone. I also used the Red Slime Remover which did the trick ( Temporarily ) but did mess up the bacteria so I won’t ever use it again.

  • Time heals all wounds. Looks like you have every base covered on your end, just have to wait it out. I block out all the sunlight and run my lights from strictly 1pm to 9pm. The only other suggestion I can give is just try to be home more. 10 days away from your tank is relatively long.

  • @muffemod Haha! Thanks for the comments. I really appreciate the info. As for the time at home... Give me your address so that I can send you the bills and mortgage payment. Then... I will gladly stay at home with my system and family.

Really, It is not as much of a choice as some think it is to be out of town so often.

    Thanks for watching.

  • See the Following Link and The Progress afterwords to easily remove the cyanobacteria. Don't take shit type of Headache: admirehomes

  • @snowingspoon Links don't work in the comments section of YouTube. You have to PM me any links.

  • Great update buddy, good luck with cyano problem, I think it's low flow, low in the tank it's this fine sand I hate it, got that sugar fine sand in my tank to , I have to turn one of my tunze pumps really low or I'll have sand all over.my hang on refugium fell of yesderday, problem after problem Lol, keep moving forward buddy and we will win the battle.

  • @dm002a8686 OK. I though I was the only one with these types of issues and major problems. lol.. Well, I am very sorry to hear of your refugium. I know how bad a catastrophe event like that can suck!! I really don't have an issue with the pumps since getting a second one. More of the issue is the Blenny "dancing" on the sand and the Tang thinking the tank is a "race track" They love to stir the sand up. Well, I hope all will be well with your system and I will be looking for an update!

  • I know what you feel man..sometimes you try and try and bad things still there''

  • @karlek110188 Haha. Well... I keep plugging away at it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • Skimmer and flow I would say your good on, as far as lighting I would cut it back to 8 or 9 hours. Had same problem in 55 because it sat in front of window and got to much light, even with window being tinted. So I covered window up and cut lighting in half, all corals did fine to. Like the mp40s keep it up!!

  • @Bigsnyder15 Thanks for the comments. I agree with the lighting. I have cut back on the timers for now. I think that they were on too long anyways. The window may be an issue with my wife. lol. I will see what I can do. I should be able to shut the blinds right near the tank. However, there are two big rooms that have windows and are open to each other.

    Thanks for watching!

  • I have some red slime myself. it seems to be going away really slowly

  • @ArcAngel9008 I feel your pain. What are you doing to rid of it?

  • @adjusterfrank right now...nothing. I stopped doing water changes every week

  • @ArcAngel9008 Well, with my work schedule... My water changes are about every two weeks. The only difference is that with the cyano I have to remove it from the sand and blow the rock off. Makes not looking forward to the maintenance when I get home.

  • @adjusterfrank this is my second week without doing a water change. I've noticed a decrease in hair algae and some red slime. When your removing the red slime u want to do it with the pumps off. and Blowing the rocks off will only spread the slime, it will just spread the spores.

  • Nice video. Tank is looking good, hope the cyano tuck's its tail and runs lol. My tank is looking good two months after chemi-clean, don't think I've seen a difference with good bacteria and bad bacteria gone. So last resort I guess, don't move coral's and fish to a different tank. using the meds, would be my route.

  • @xxL0CKHARTxx Thanks for the comments and info. If I decide to move the corals and fishes to a different tank it will ultimately be to change the sand to larger substrate. This sand really grates on my OCD lol. I really don't want to do this because there is so much life in the DSB. But... we will see.

    Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • Still looks to me like the cyano is present in the areas of little water flow. Just my 2 cents :-) Nice video bud.

  • @abrockman61 Haha, Thanks, I agree that the major part of the Cyano is in the areas of little water flow. However, I am trying to eradicate this issue. Also, if the nutriance were not present, then I should not have an issue. I am going to try and move the mp40's down a bit in the tank.

  • when you feed frozen food do you strain it with net to get all the mysis out into the net without the water because that stuff will put some nasty phosfates in your tank if you just dump it with the water into your tank

  • @zacguitarshreder12 Well, I used to. Then, I read several articles on how the frozen foods are processed and packaged. All the articles mentioned that you should not have to do this. Do we know for sure that the "cube" is packed with phosphates? Or... is it just being on the safe side?

  • @adjusterfrank from every one i have talked to and most of the videos on youtube say you should strain it

  • @zacguitarshreder12 I agree. I the end... what could it hurt. Just a bit more time. Also, then I would be eliminating any phosphates from entering into the system.

  • @zacguitarshreder12 I I agree with you..always strain it

  • Man, that rock with the mushrooms and all the pink/purple looks as amazing as it gets. Well done. Getting there for sure.

  • @Churchhealzimpact Haha, Thanks man. I appreciate the comments. Well... to be honest, it looks better off camera. lol. That is why I dropped 60 large on the rock. I hope to get more when I stop back into the lfs again.

    Thanks for watching.

  • since you have a reactor with good media and a refugium, eventually the nutrients it consumes (phosphates) will become depleted and it will die out. Try to cut down on the feeding a little bit for a week or two to decrease the amount of nutrients within your system. Also change your media often. Good luck :)

  • @V12Di3seL - Thanks for the comments. I have cut down on the feedings. I realize that this might have been a huge issue with the Cyano. Also, I have replaced the media during this cleaning. I will be out of town for a week. So... when I get back I will see how things are going. I also changed the light cycle for 10 hrs.

    Thanks for watching.

  • @adjusterfrank If it were me i wouldn't have changed the light cycle but it sounds to me like your well on your way :)

  • i had made cyno bactreia i got a diamond goby . and its gone

  • @NYCMarineFish Well, how do you think the goby will do with the sugar fine sand? It might be a big issue. lol

  • @adjusterfrank iv seen people with qa suger sand and a goby.

  • @NYCMarineFish Well, it will be something to think about for me. I know that Jbliss2000007 almost got out of the hobby because of his gobies. lol

  • Hi Adjuster, Hope the Cyano gets under control. Look forward to your next one.. DJ

  • @djdoggiedog Thanks Dog. I have cleaned the tanks and I thought I made a video but... the camera was not recording. lol. I will make another and try to upload soon.

    thanks for watching.

  • with your return spout pointed down like that..... what happens when your power goes out?

  • @snowboarderrx Well, because I have two outlets, the siphon is broken from the upper return. No problems with this. I will try and show this in a video if I can remember. I turned that one down as to not have any dead spots in that corner.

    Thanks for noticing and watching.

  • physically scrape or pull any cyano out. Hopefully its something trivial as one of these. As always, your vids rock and looking foward to the updates =)

  • @Chupidtrini Thanks for the info. I did blow off all the rocks and then sucked the sand free of the cyano. This sand is very difficult to complete that task due to it being so fine. However, we will see how it looks in about a week or so. Thanks for watching. I am glad that you like the videos.

  • I feel your pain, I had cyano for over 2 months when I first started. The cyano was so bad it looked like chocolate frosting - the way how dense it was all over my rock and sand bed. Just like you, mines started at the rear. I fixed this by changing my Halide bulbs and all of my RODI filters and within 3 or 4 days, my tank was spotless. the top off water along with a massive water change of the new water took care of this. the problem was both my lighting and my bulbs. i didnt bother to

  • @Chupidtrini Well, I am going to keep up this regimen for now. If this doesn't work. All the fishes and the corals will go back to the 36g tank. Then, I will remove the sand and go with larger size substrate. Hopefully, I will have eradicated the Cyano by then.

  • You can go get a sand sifting goby to help you with the sand. My dragon goby eats the cyano from the sand and rocks.

  • @70gallonfishtank Thanks for the ideas. The issues that I had with the gobies is tunneling through the sand. This sugar fine sand if very trying on my patients. The blenny likes to make it fly all over the place. Actually, while cleaning the system he bit me and ran. Twice!!. lol
