  • Beautiful... Pure art

  • Victor Wooten can't play "Giant Steps."

  • @acidkidmorganp Yes he can. :P

  • @acidkidmorganp YOU LIE! Wooten can do anything!

  • @acidkidmorganp why the fuck not lol... I'm pretty sure it's not above him

  • This reminds me of that windows 98 screensaver with those pipes. Also I found this on GTA IV from JNR radio.

  • This the best music video with best music ever.

  • Dude this is sick

  • I clicked on the better version. Michael is a girl. Lives in Philadelphia. You should SEE her credits! WOW! Thanks for doing this. Loved doing this tune. Tough for me. Unorthodox.

  • Wow! Michael Levy - Coltrane! Dynamite!!! BRAVO! ♥

  • this is the best thing i have seen today.

  • Marvelous!

  • MInecraft Jazz update!

  • How could you dislike this? Some of Coltrane's best work, with an amazingly artistic video.

  • that shit is smooth man

  • This would make for a much better Cubello experience on the WII!

  • Wow. Thank you Michal Levy.

  • @EaglesProblemChild Then again, this song is super fast and crazy hard for anyone

  • @EaglesProblemChild lol never thought of that!, still though, they dont have such strange fingerings. Wouldn't it be the same as reading through a Beethoven or a Mozart pieces? maybe easier. They really dont have to wory about key until they hang a solo

  • これはステキ

  • great technique ! hope to see more videos of it

  • i love the way the visuals move consistently with the music.

  • This is what media players visualisations should look like.

  • cool animation

  • cool animation

  • sempre affascinante... così dannatamente Cool

  • Legend , stop.

  • This is hell for a guitarist...

  • Great video mate!

  • great job! This sorta cartoon animation made my two little cousins watch this again and again yesterday...and today I found one of them "singin" a bit of Giant Steps while playing! that's amazing! Thank youuuuuu! :)

  • holy shit batman i can see sounds!!!!

  • CAN'T STOP THE TRANE WHOOOOO

  • John Coltrane, father of the new legend Ravi Coltrane. SPIRIT OF JAZZ NEVER DIES!

  • always perfect.

  • It reminds me of monster's inc. during the beginning credits lol

  • @zackyp93 lol you're right

  • Nice!

  • i love it!

  • Monsieur John Coltrane in Da House

    Happy 2008 folks

  • TIME WARP!!!!! It's 2009...

  • a mistake brother man looool

  • nice point of view...the music is up and down, like constructing and descontructing

  • and phrames(/scales) in which you create details of perfection - you may quote me on that one ;o)

  • Coltrane's most important recording, far more innovative than either "My Favorite Things" or "A Love Supreme." This alone is sufficient evidence to make him one of the 2 most important, influential jazz musicians of the past 50 years. (I'm supposed to say Miles is the other, but if we're talking about the "language" of the music itself, Bill Evans is the one--and as much for his '79-80 trio as for the one with LaFaro responsible for the '61 Vanguard session.)

  • Bird's contribution can NOT be overstated. Ask Trane or Miles or Evans when you get your time machine. Bolden, Armstrong, Parker, Miles, Trane. ALWAYS horn players. This from Julliard John Mehegan, a pianist.

  • A definite agreement, except I was talking about this recording and musicians since Bird. Unlike Trane's influence on many followers inspired by Favorite Things, Love Supreme, Crescent and the later incantatory spiritual "happenings", Bird did not encourage a bunch of amateurs/pretenders to shriek altissimo noises all night. Bird always felt that 2 choruses was enough, and bebop was a language so challenging that 2 choruses often proved too much for all but him.

  • i liked this video :)

why cant i see the video LU

  • I was waiting to see your impressions on the piano solo, but then I realized that it was cut off. Still, this is awesome. <:D Favorite'd and 5 star'd.

  • wow. this was a cool concept, and I like the way it was done.

  • Fantastic animation - really clever. I think, if JC had seen this, he'd have freaked out!!

  • BRAVO!

  • Wow!

  • ié ! :)

  • i found this guy from the movie 'kids'.

i couldnt find the song 'John Coltrane - Slow Dance' from the movie, which is a shame, but this is good too.

  • This is stunning!!!

    5 Stars!

  • GENIUS!

  • i like the animation gr888

  • this version kind of sucks...you have to go to Michal Levy's website to really appreciate it. with youtube, the audio and video are always out of sync which kind of ruins the effect of this animation

  • So good. Blue Train is still my favorite!

  • God man he was a jazz legend no doubt.

haha and he was from North Carolina :D greatest jazz artist to be born here.

  • Nice! Nice! Nice!

  • One of my favorite songs of all time. The animation really fits the style of the song.

  • totally rockin. this song rocked me from beginning to end. sexy.

  • Great:D

  • That was interesting and pretty nice. No it was amazing.

  • that was awesome!

  • Getting dressed to go out at night. That's what I think of. The excitement of Giant Steps.

  • Great job, twofourtree. that was fun - do some more.

  • This is a cool way of almost showing the visualization of music. As far as discord goes "Trane" is the best there is!

  • how could u fall asleep to that? way too upbeat

  • 1. Yo obviously have no idea how to listen to music.

2.Never speak again. You opinion is not valued

  • the combination of sound and image....perfect!

  • Non so se il jazz abbia fatto "passi da gigante" dopo questo capolavoro. I'm not sure if jazz made giant steps after this masterpiece.

  • Wow that was amazing.

  • Wow!!! Very Soothing..........

  • It say so much. Kind of contrapuncto of composition in time.

  • bela fleck and victor wooten play this song pretty good

  • this version is not really in sync... but the other version is BRILLIANT!!!!

  • lol they could do better.

  • it's awesome, it's like the short note runs are the details, and the beautiful expressive long held notes are the depth and volume in this video

  • that is so sic! and the high quality one is even better. thanks for posting!!!!

  • really cool vid!

  • man it was awesome when i heard this song on GTA 4 just cruising around. i love the addition of a jazz channel. i love this song...its so beautiful. great animation to go with it too

  • hahaha i hope that wasn't the first time you heard it. What a strange first impression that would be. I had a similar experience with that station and thought it was hillarious running down pedestrians to take the A train

  • sweet vid that goes with this awesome song!

  • Trane @ his best!

  • It play with about a one second lag from video to music on my pc.

When in sync, this video is GREAT.

  • this vedos presents a vivid representation of a the Trains musical worck development, so that anayone can understand the process, that a good song should have.

  • amazing, marvelous, brillant, unordinary video! just the best visualisation for piece ever! After seeing life won't be the same.. :P Music is great too but about it knows all of us. I want to see or even touch him :)

  • incredible song and vid

    captivating and hipnotizing

    john coltrane is the best

  • I think this is on GTA IV. JNR radio is my favourite station.

  • They have some charlie parker on it aswell. I'd like to hear some Miles Davis personally.

  • they do, they have move

  • yuck! kenny g???? this is a god, man..is Trane!

  • I really hope that was a joke! Kenny G isn't jazz!

  • ya that station has a lot of classics; I'm pretty sure they have some Dizzie Gilespie and even April in Paris , and Duke Ellington with take the "A" train

  • That was excellent

  • id like to see kenny g do a rendition of this song

  • hahaha good one.... id love to see pete wentz do a rendition of this song too. oh and my asshole should do a rendition too, itll be just as good as kenny g's version.

  • I like how the video goes right along with the song, plus the video by its self is prety cool

  • "no junk, no soul!"

    -Brian Griffin-

  • when john coltrane plays houses are built

    so fantastic

  • i watched the version on your site this is awsome!

  • Please fix this. I've seen the original, this version is a few seconds out of sync. This is one of the all time great music videos, but it needs to be in sync for the full effect.

  • watch?v=2kotK9FNEYU

    that's the real version.

  • that other version is WAY better, this one is pretty sweet too though.

  • i love this video.

  • There's a really good semi-cover of this by a guy called James Robinson, "Six Giant Steps to Seven". There isn't a video of it on youtube, but one could find it if they really wanted to.

  • Love it!!!!!!

  • damn, well thought out and nicely done.

  • wow.... the animations are so cool!!

  • GREAT ANIMATION FOR GIANT STEPS

  • Wow, the animation was amazing, so many angles and colours

  • Kick ASS!!!! :-D !!!!

  • YOUTUBE SYNCH SUCKS. damn, half of the vids on this platform are out of sync. this is so annoying. those guys have heaps and heaps and suparheaps of money and don't manage to get their friggin' algorithms straigth. it's a shame!

go watch the video on michaels homepage when it's up again, it just doesnt work here.

  • amen

  • thanks a lot for this!!!

  • looks like a video sequence from MTV

  • "new on the Ten Spot"

  • woah i loved that but it was too damn short!

    good nonetheless

  • That's was a great video.

  • Pa...Pa...Pa, Parano!

  • don't criticize what you can't understand.

  • I took a look at the original, nice inner vision and clever realization of it. I think the YouTube version would worth a better compression too, one is to miss the whole point when synch is not evident. Supernice vid for a song that is - as one so precisely put it - not of this Earth.

  • jajajaj WONDERFUL VIDEO!!!

  • Not how I pictured it, but I appreciate your vision. Thanks!

  • When it's synched, it's an AMAZING video ;)

  • Go to the site, trust me it is actually synched up which makes it a billion times more amazing!

  • what the fuck was that?

  • lo mejor, lejos....gracias john coltrane........ El mas grande

  • shit man that was great. it really was the music. that big yellow pillar in the middle when there was a long, bright note that demanded so much attention .. man oh man perfect.

  • This was well done. I am going to say...as a guitar player and a posseser of the human mind with all of it's characteristics...that you were acurate on most of the imagery. I really liked it too. The shades were perfect...purple though...ehhh..maybe..creative freedom? I KNOW you know what I'm talking about. Also though, the part where the squarish towers lost it's squares...I thought it was a little too gradual.

    Great work!! PEAcE.

  • awesome!!!! def'nit'ly great!!!it describes perfectly the metafisic schizophrenically crazy, explosive, city-built harmonic complexity of the jazz and of all the jazz-based music!!! funky, acid-jazz and even r'n'b!!

  • Is their really a such genre as "acid-jazz?"

  • welll...surely coltrane and others like him is the basis from which acid jazz, funky, r'n'b and others developped...methinks!!

  • Someone hates me...everything on my screan is in spanish right now. I like the Shakespear stuff bro...

right on. Wtf? Spanish? Anyway, I'm gonna look up some acid jazz tommarow if I still have a working computer. PEAcE.

  • arg... not synched!

  • I know. I feel your pain.I saw this a few years ago and was completely blown away with it, but this version definitely doesn't do justice to all of the time and hard work that went into it

  • The original is fantastic, but this one is out of sync, which kind of ruins it completely. :(

  • veeeeeeeeeery nice, congratulations

  • Yeah on the website it looks a lot better.

  • cute...luv the piece of course....

  • Yeah, I completely agree with you. Attempting creativty when your not well known and protected by popular opinion is entirely cute. I mean, it's not about creativty...it's about...well whatever it's about right?! Shit! Sure..pshh...Coltrane may have took every opportunity to give back to the idea of creation, but we don't care DO WE??? PEAcE.

  • man 0:31 with the dots and the stairs !

    that's tight

  • the sound and video are not synchronized. it's on michal levy's site, looks beter there too.

  • reel nice how everythin fits

  • I don't like it. It doesn't fit the tune. Something is missing, I cannot say what. It needs something extra. It's unfinished, and I would like to see maybe something a little crazier in the animation. Maybe a rounder feel to it. I don't know. I just don't agree with the piece.

  • It doesn't fit. The whole thing was a waste of time, because the animation doesn't sinc up with the nice upbeat quality of the song. It lags behind like a toddler to his older brother. Make it a tadbit faster and increase the quality of the animation and maybe I'll see it as fitting for the piece. But I find it seriously lacks something. Seems very unfinished.

  • I loved this video :)

  • yea very accurate video! nice representation of this great piece of music, Trane died 30 years ago this year and yet he's still everywhere!

  • This is really cool- i love how precise it is with the shorter notes creating different things than the longer notes. Awesome

  • Fantastic! There wass a very brief time when all computer animation was aspiring to be like this and to put it to Coltrane, what can I say....Schnack!

  • One of my most favourite jazz pieces!!!

  • this is pure creativity, creativity in liquid form

    i love it

  • very powerful and appropriate to coltrane's sound

  • Pure bliss :)

  • cool

  • GREAT!

  • Cool, I like it.

  • Great music, excellent animation

  • Where can I download this

  • Could you, or someone make one for 'A Love Supreme'?

  • this is the best video i've seen on youtube! gatzsax how retarded can you get. how could they be the wrong notes when this is the original "real solo" in the first place?

  • hahahahahhaa, gatzsax must be the most dumbest ass in the world!

  • Got that right

  • its not the wrong solo....stupid gatzsax

  • bravo

  • That anorak must be gettin a bit tight mate...loosen up

  • Wrong notes. Check the "real solo".

  • the original songs were recorded in a different key, and over time the recordings changed the keys... but the soul is still there, and thats all that matters...

  • Prove it then

  • die a horrible horrible death

  • go to bed.

  • Wow, you are dumb
