Just watched this vid again. Good vid. Now that I've had the PPS for a while, I love the thing even more than I did during the honeymoon phase. As a NYC civilian, I cannot carry concealed. I plan to move to PA eventually, however, and I expect the PPS is what I'll carry. I respect your comments about shortcomings in barrel length and round capacity - for an LEO. For me, for an up-close defensive weapon it seems perfect. Higher capacity would be nice, but I wouldn't trade the slimness.
I absolutely love my pps in 40 s&w. Very accurate and very comfortable to carry. This is my primary carry gun now. As far as holsters go, I'm a big fan of the belly bands. I have 3 different styles of belly bands, as reholstering is not a concern of mine. I even carry my smith&wesson 686p, 3in. barrel in a belly band holster. My pps, 40cal, came with two mags, a 7 and 6 round. I leave the 7 round in the gun and carry the 6 round right next to the gun in the belly band holster.
Good vid. I bought one of these recently in .40 and I love it. It does kind of beat the crap out of my hand between the thumb and index, so I had to slap a Limbsaver grip on it, which does help considerably and doesn't detract much at all from the slimness. I am amazed at how controllable it is for its size - I actually shoot more accurately with the PPS than I do with my Glock 23. Not sure why.
@renegade410 6+1 isn't an acceptable capacity? you should carry a 19+1 round xdm 9mm or a glock 17 with the 33 round mags 99% of the time the job of self defense is done in 1 or 2 shots i carry the kahr p380 6+1 and never feel under gunned
Great video mate. I love Walther's they feel great and they're pretty sleek in design. As of now I have a Walther PPS 9mm, PPS 40 S&W, P99 9mm, and a Beretta 92 FS 9mm. Plus, not to mention that Walther's are the choice gun of Agent 007 James Bond.
I like the way you explained about the detail of the Walther PPS. I remember when you did excellant review on the Sig 239. I would like you to compare the two guns. I would very much like to know which one you like better. The sig 239 or the Walther PPS. Thank You!
@rick9119ab Thank you. I don't know if I will do a direct comparison of the two, but I will think about it. I like them both. They serve different purposes for me and both work well in the roles that I use them in.
@renegade410 Thank you for responding to my question. I have the Sig 226. I really enjoy shooting it. I would like to use a smaller gun for my concealed carry gun. Both the Walther and Sig seem very similar. What I found out is that the Sig 239 is easily obtainable in my area which is Kennesaw GA but the Walther is not. I appreciate your honesty and thoroughness in your reviews and I am looking forward in seeing more of them.
@rick9119ab Thank you. If you already own a P226 then the P239 would be a good firearm to copliment it. The P239 is just a smaller version of the P226 & should be easy for you to shoot, clean and operate overall.
Another good vid. Seems like a very cool weapon for CC. Unfortunately I live in NYC (I'm gonna take a wild guess that you do, too) and I'm not LE, so concealed carry is out of the question for me. Still, I may eventually pick one up anyway - I may be moving to PA in the next year or so, and the PPS looks like it'd be very comfortable. Been considering the Glock 36 as well (sub-comp. slim .45), but it might be nice if I can stick with .40.
@scilonthreat I haven't had any issues with mine. I suppose that certain ammo might have some issues in specific guns, but overall I haven't heard many complaints about feeding issues.
I have the PPS 40 and use a SuperTuck from Crossbreed Holsters ($60.00). You can tuck your shirt in and can not see the outline at all. Best holster for this gun.
@bobdobslob I didn't get that great of a deal. My PPS cost me almost MSRP. Most larger stores don't usually negotiate on prices, mom and pop shops might. I try to shop around before I attempt to negotiate, I like looking at guns, not haggleing.
The PPS is great for CCW. I can easily carry mine because of its size.
@renegade410 I have the PPS 40 and use a SuperTuck from Crossbreed Holsters ($60.00). You can tuck your shirt in and can not see the outline at all. Best holster for this gun.
I just picked one up for $499. They are about $600 normally in 40. I have a Beretta PX4 sub I also carry. I bought this as a backup. I like the thin profile. My primary is eaither a 1911 lightweight commander or my PX4 45. It might be snappy but recoil is nothing compared to my 50AE Desert Eagle. I think Walther did a great job and if you have a P99 which I do then the mag release is no big deal. The trigger is to keep you from shooting off old blue.
@AddOneForTheGoodGuys Unfortunately there aren't many holsters at all for it. Galco makes a couple, as do some other manufacturers, but nothing that I really want. I think I'm going to have a couple custom made. If you like the production holsters any holster that fits the 9mm version will fit the .40, the dimentions are identical.
@AddOneForTheGoodGuys if you haven't found one you like yet, I highly recommend the Crossbreed Supertuck. I've been using that holster for my PPS for a year now, and I'll never buy another brand of CCW holster again. It's just plain awesome.
Well Done. I recently purchased one of these, and i gotta tell ya, its a dandy. After 400-500 rds, no misfires, SP, FE, FF, or any of the usual problems with compact pistols. Mind you, I'm no professional, but I found it quite east to keep a 4" group from 40 feet with am. Eagle hardball and Winchester Silvertip 185 gr JHPs. I've ordered a Supertuck Deluxe IWB from Crossbreed and am eagerly awaiting its arrival. Thought you might wanna know.
@EmptyBrains2007 I had some problems with it , it liked to stove pipe on Blazer fmj amio. I have found when I use Federal or Remington fmj for target I have not had one problem. I sent it back to Walther twice and they could not reproduce the problem.
So far it looks good. I haven't had any issues, but I have not gotten out to the range with the PPS as much as I would like. I have put less than 300 rounds through it, so I still need to get some more trigger time, but so for I haven't had any problems.
All the problems people are having with this gun are w/ the .40 caliber version. I wish you luck with yours, $700 isn't a small amount of money (anymore)
I always use ear protection. The range I currently go to is indoor so ear protection is a must. Its always a good idea to wear ear and eye protection when you shoot, anyway, just in case.
im lookin at a pps for around 350$ thats the lowest price ive seen on one of these... it wasnt really what i was lookin for but you think i should jump on this one bc of the price?
I don't find it to be overly uncomfortable. Its nice to shoot and the recoil is controlable.
Since its a polymer pistol the recoil is more than it would be in a heavier gun, but its all about the compromise. Its small enough and light enough to carry anywhere I want, but it kicks a little bit more than a steel gun.
I just bought this gun today... can't wait to shoot it. I will use it as my primary carry because it is so slim. Also, it sounds like you got a good price.
I love my PPS. It is exceptionally accurate. The barrel length is really a non issue as the firearm is capable of delivering remarkable accuracy on par with the best pistols I have shot. Reliability so far 100%. I love the finish on it. After a few more hundred rounds and I get a few more magazines its my new primary.
I carry a Walther PPS 40 as my primary CCW and like it very much. Have fired more than 600 rounds through it with only a few FTF with certain ammo. Love the size, weight, accuracy and ability to carry and conceal comfortably. It took the place of my Glock 19 as my primary.
I carry the S&W M&P .45 with the PPS 40as back up and it fits nicely inside the belt line with a soft holster, accurate with lots of power in a small form factor, six and seven round mags add the needed pinky finger grip.
The six and seven round mags definetly add to the grip. I like the five round magazine for carrying inside my boot, the shorter mag doesn't protrude so its really easy to conceal just by the leg or my jeans.
awesome. very informative review. i was thinking about picking this up for days or situations (like when out on the bike) when i dont want the bulk of my full size xdm-40. I goofed around with one today and definitely felt the stiff double action on the trigger. do you think there is any way a shop could soften up the pull a bit?
I don't know if there is any way to lighten the trigger pull. If you have a gunsmith that you deal with then you can ask him what he thinks. As of right now I don't think there are any after market parts for the PPS for the trigger pull, so a gunsmith is probably the only option.
Its a little bit longer. If you have larger hands the 7 round magazine is probably going to be more comfortable. For me the 7 round magazine is very comfortable and I can get a full grip on the pistol.
The finest subcompact firearm I have ever fired. Much nicer than the Glock 26 or 27. I have a 9mm, but the recoil is barely noticeable. But I am very strong. Deadly accurate and an intimidating design! You'll barely know you're carrying it. It feels good in the hand and very balanced. I can fire rapidly and accurately at the same time. I love it.
I was looking on youtube at them for my mother for reveiws and found a few youtubers saying they've had that issue. Your video seemed more precise and it was of a different caliber so wanted to know your thoughts. And thank you. Hope to see more of your videos.
I haven't had any issues with my PPS. I think its a well made firearm. I think it would be a great gun for your mother as long as she can handle the recoil and rack the slide. My mother doesn't have the strength to rack the slide on any of my pistols so we ended up getting her a Beretta Tomcat in .32 ACP. Thank you for watching. More videos will be comming soon.
I haven't had any issues with the firing pin on either of my Walthers. I haven't heard anyone complain about any such issues either. A couple of my friends have the P22 as well, and no one has complained of any problems with the function of their guns.
My agency does not allow us to use the range for our personal guns. We only have two ranges and they are basically always in use for our qualifications or trainning.
Here in Wisconsin, we can only open carry. So we generally go for bigger guns. If we had conceal carry then the small frames would be good. But for now, hand cannons are desired.
this is a great gun and an awesome review...i have noticed, however, that there is a lot of drop off when using a 165 grain round, i switched to a 180 grain and my shots were grouping spot on...but good job on the great review
Thank you. With the lighter loads and the short barrel the accuracy will be affected. The heavier loads will help with accuracy and down range energy, as well as energy transfer to the target. Thanks for the comment!
Is that little round thing in the slide a firing pin safety? It looks a like the one in the Glock. You know the one that actually blocks the firing pin from hitting the primer.
The round things on the frame are just pins to hold the internal parts of the gun into the frame. The round part with the red dot on the back of the slide is a cocking indicator to tell you if the gun is cocked and ready to fire. I hope I am explaining what you are asking about. If not please leave me another comment and I will try to explain better.
The recoil is not that bad. The gun is small and light, so you kind of know what you are getting into when you buy it. Basically a little practice with it will go a long way.
Great review!! I'm currently 99% sure i want this gun to carry all the time. I am in law enforcement, so I can later use it later as a backup. Question: How does this gun shoot in a .40? Recoil? Im pretty sure I will purchase the .40.
Thank you! Its a great gun. It shoots very nicely. It is smooth and functions fine. The recoil is controlable, especially if you are used to big calibers like .40S&W or
.45 ACP. If you shoot big calibers in small guns, you should not have a problem with it. It is a little light overall, so it snaps back a little when you shoot, but its not really a problem. I hope this helps. Stay safe out there!
Great video very entailed description. Hey I was wondering whats the kick on this walther pps chambered in .40. Versus compared to lets say a glock 27 or even a g26 with its 9mm. Im really interested in this neat pistol and would like your feedback on the .40. Thanks Renegade410.
Thank you. I'm not sure of the recoil in comparison to the Glock 26 or 27 because I don't own either. My guess is that if you have experience with the Glock 27 the recoil would be similar. Next time I go out to the range with my partner I'm going to try to get a feel for his Glocks and then I can make some better comparisons. Hope this helped. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I was checking the PPS 9mm out at my local gun shop a few months ago. I really like the design and the ability to conceal it with almost any attire. My primary carry gun is a Glock 23 chambered in .40. I think this might fit the bill for summer carry. The gun shop owner and I have been doing business for years and he offered the PPS in 9mm to me for $525. I would have bought it, but I just purchased a Beretta 96. I might go back soon and pick one up. Nice review!
Thank you. That sounds like a good deal to me. It is definetly easy to conceal, it fits on my ankle, or in a 5.11 Holster Shirt. I can even get it in my boot, and I forget that its there. Gald you liked the video.
I consider the Walther PPS to be a compact firearm. It depends on your feelings about size and weight for the most part. Some firearms are labeled as "compact" but may not seem very compact to some people.
I guess you could. It all depends on your preferences. I have a couple revolvers, but I personally don't like shooting anything bigger than a .38 spl. +P in a revolver. That and I get a little more capacity in the PPS. But I still consider it a backup for me.
Definelty. I have a 7 round magazine for it. I like it. It gives some more length to the grip. The three different magazine capactities and lengths really make it versital, and helps with its concealability.
Walther PPS is a very good weapon. bothers me a lil that its .40 cal., now i understand people want good caliber on a gun. but small guns shouldn't get so much cal. =D. its a and breaker.
Its a matter of controlability. If you can control it then the caliber is not a big deal. I thinks its a great little gun. The finger extension on the larger magazine helps too. Thanks for the comments!

Reliability so far 100%. I love the finish on it. After a few more hundred rounds and I get a few more magazines its my new primary.
lizard450 2 years ago
That's great!
I think mine is great as well. It is accurate.
Let me know what kind of holster you get for it and where you purchased it. I'm looking into a custom holster for mine right now.
Thanks for watching and commenting!

I'm just using my IWB P99 holster. I could trim it down a bit but my draw is smooth from it and its comfortable to carry.
lizard450 2 years ago
Ok. Thanks.
I don't really like IWB holsters so I guess I'm going to have to get one made up. There aren't many holsters for the PPS out there yet.
Thanks for the reply.

Fobus has a paddle holster for the PPS

I carry a Walther PPS 40 as my primary CCW and like it very much. Have fired more than 600 rounds through it with only a few FTF with certain ammo. Love the size, weight, accuracy and ability to carry and conceal comfortably. It took the place of my Glock 19 as my primary.
mustangrr 2 years ago
I carry the S&W M&P .45 with the PPS 40as back up and it fits nicely inside the belt line with a soft holster, accurate with lots of power in a small form factor, six and seven round mags add the needed pinky finger grip.
ccwebrider 2 years ago
Definetly a couple of good choices.

I goofed around with one today and definitely felt the stiff double action on the trigger. do you think there is any way a shop could soften up the pull a bit?
dreadhead13 2 years ago
Thank you.
I don't know if there is any way to lighten the trigger pull. If you have a gunsmith that you deal with then you can ask him what he thinks. As of right now I don't think there are any after market parts for the PPS for the trigger pull, so a gunsmith is probably the only option.

how much different is the 7 round vs. the 6 round in terms of grip?
mxpxkid188 2 years ago
Its a little bit longer. If you have larger hands the 7 round magazine is probably going to be more comfortable. For me the 7 round magazine is very comfortable and I can get a full grip on the pistol.
Thank you for watching.
renegade410 2 years ago
probably easy to conseal.
10oDISTURBEDo01 2 years ago
It is very thin and easy to conceal.
Thanks for commenting.

im only 13 but i saw this in a gun store and it is a lot more narrow than any gun in the store.

i carry a h and k usp .45 but i use the 9mm version of the pps s my back and they both perform excellently
jb1994777 2 years ago
I carry my HK 45C as my primary, but I'm telling you, the 9mm Walther PPS is devastating!
khalsasikh 2 years ago

MrCntrybyWlkr 2 years ago
I haven't had any issues with my PPS. I think its a well made firearm. I think it would be a great gun for your mother as long as she can handle the recoil and rack the slide. My mother doesn't have the strength to rack the slide on any of my pistols so we ended up getting her a Beretta Tomcat in .32 ACP. Thank you for watching. More videos will be comming soon.
renegade410 2 years ago
Do you have issues with the fire pin on this like a lot do with the 22 version of the wather as far as breakage?
MrCntrybyWlkr 2 years ago
I haven't had any issues with the firing pin on either of my Walthers. I haven't heard anyone complain about any such issues either. A couple of my friends have the P22 as well, and no one has complained of any problems with the function of their guns.

My agency does not allow us to use the range for our personal guns. We only have two ranges and they are basically always in use for our qualifications or trainning.
renegade410 2 years ago
Here in Wisconsin, we can only open carry. So we generally go for bigger guns. If we had conceal carry then the small frames would be good. But for now, hand cannons are desired.
Maxwedge12000 2 years ago
this is a great gun and an awesome review...i have noticed, however, that there is a lot of drop off when using a 165 grain round, i switched to a 180 grain and my shots were grouping spot on...but good job on the great review
thatNinjaBoots 2 years ago
Thank you. With the lighter loads and the short barrel the accuracy will be affected. The heavier loads will help with accuracy and down range energy, as well as energy transfer to the target. Thanks for the comment!
renegade410 2 years ago
Is that little round thing in the slide a firing pin safety? It looks a like the one in the Glock. You know the one that actually blocks the firing pin from hitting the primer.
centurionsquad 2 years ago
The round things on the frame are just pins to hold the internal parts of the gun into the frame. The round part with the red dot on the back of the slide is a cocking indicator to tell you if the gun is cocked and ready to fire. I hope I am explaining what you are asking about. If not please leave me another comment and I will try to explain better.
renegade410 2 years ago
Mine is on order, actually have not received it yet. How bad does it kick?
centurionsquad 2 years ago
The recoil is not that bad. The gun is small and light, so you kind of know what you are getting into when you buy it. Basically a little practice with it will go a long way.
renegade410 2 years ago
Awesome weapon! Just purchased this for my conceal carry. You can't get a slimmer .40. Love it!

Great review!! I'm currently 99% sure i want this gun to carry all the time. I am in law enforcement, so I can later use it later as a backup. Question: How does this gun shoot in a .40? Recoil? Im pretty sure I will purchase the .40.
xtremeranger95 2 years ago

Thanks Renegade410.
wreckingcrew07 2 years ago

CLD1970 2 years ago
Thank you. That sounds like a good deal to me. It is definetly easy to conceal, it fits on my ankle, or in a 5.11 Holster Shirt. I can even get it in my boot, and I forget that its there. Gald you liked the video.

i would get this weapon but the status of it in my state(CA) is not exactly legal as are many other firearms but great review

I'm sorry that CA has the ridiculous restrictions that they have. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Would this be considered a compact firearm?
rls151 2 years ago
I consider the Walther PPS to be a compact firearm. It depends on your feelings about size and weight for the most part. Some firearms are labeled as "compact" but may not seem very compact to some people.

nice gun. My current carry gun is a glock 36.
bigrob911 2 years ago
Might as well just get a revolver.
Madman9mm 2 years ago
I guess you could. It all depends on your preferences. I have a couple revolvers, but I personally don't like shooting anything bigger than a .38 spl. +P in a revolver. That and I get a little more capacity in the PPS. But I still consider it a backup for me.
renegade410 2 years ago
Great ankle gun thats what it is to me,by the way they have a 7rd mag u think so check it out and good review
theinnovativeone 2 years ago
Definelty. I have a 7 round magazine for it. I like it. It gives some more length to the grip. The three different magazine capactities and lengths really make it versital, and helps with its concealability.
renegade410 2 years ago
Walther PPS is a very good weapon. bothers me a lil that its .40 cal., now i understand people want good caliber on a gun. but small guns shouldn't get so much cal. =D. its a and breaker.
jdiddy27 2 years ago
Its a matter of controlability. If you can control it then the caliber is not a big deal. I thinks its a great little gun. The finger extension on the larger magazine helps too. Thanks for the comments!
