  • I'm terrible at arguing with christian's bible versus simply as their proof...now attempting to explain things I'll admit, I'm still learning or attempting to define conceptually myself... How its simply easier to be like, you have your book, I have this link. They will retort in some fashion then I'll calmly explain we're both basing something on the word of another. Which has a better explanation. After a few videos, their argument attempts foiled in one small package. Thanks Brett!

  • maybe should have had the song friends in low places sent to Holding lol

  • Great great, but you should simply ask Holding: Those being a victim of ridicule or bullying justify murder? Even if Elisha is mourning or the kids being the towns troublemakers... The end :)

  • @hatzifratzi Because if you did that then Holding would just say that you don't understand the English language and that all you are doing is whining no matter how valid your argument is, unless you met him face-to-face in person where he would be civil and polite in bullshitting his way through your question and then blog on the internet about how you are the cancer of the Earth and how he humiliatingly broke you down with his vast knowledge of useless shit that nobody cares about.

  • @WarehouseOfWarpage Touché! Yeah you are probably right, no matter what you say, you can't convince apologetics, to see things from a different perspective, that may leave their belief vulnerable.

  • TBH, I find you to be way better at making video's than thunderfoot. Thunderf00t is a good scientist. But when it comes to religion I often find his views way to simplistic.

  • @ForYeensSake Thunderfoot is not overly religiously educated, but it doesn't take much to refute religion. That being said, Brett is certainly much better at pointing out non-scientific biblical problems.

  • No one in those days cared or made fun of the baldness of others. There were plenty of badasses who were bald who would likely have laughed at the notion. Even calling someone a "beardless youth" was about as insulting as calling someone "kid" nowadays... and about as much of a reason to call for divine retribution. Baldness equating to unmanliness did not arise until THIS century...

  • Why does it fucking matter why he is bald? What does that have to do with anything?

  • Before you accuse him of being a dumb, ignorant, man who twists history because he can't let go of his beliefs like Palmer and everyone else, have any of you ACTUALLY WATCHED any of Holding's videos?

"The skeptical audience here descended on his channel like a biblical plague" - Yeah right. Just go look at his viewcounts compared to Palmer's.

  • @Konanarian Oh, and I was saying that you will accuse him like Palmer and everyone else, not that you and Palmer can't let go of your beliefs.

  • by incidence, natural hair loss is most associated with the elderly, than in younger people.

For me I would go for evidence so its most probable that he is indeed old.

  • Doesn't the "lowbrow" term comes from the fact that unevolved people have the eyebrows closer to their eyes? Like the neanderthals or something. Which would make the very usage of the term a silent agreement with the theory of evolution. I am just asking, have no idea if I am right or wrong.

  • Maybe he had mange?

And since the bible can go into tedious detail at times about insignificant things, the reason for his baldness apparently is completely irrelevant.

  • Thank you very much for your hard work on this, its really cool that there are people that care enough to document the idiocacy of these arguments

  • Holding's apologetic sounds about as well worked out as one that came up in an attempt to explain the two contradictory genealogies of Jesus in the Gospels. The explanation that came up is a claim that Joseph and his father were both children of blended families and were counted as having legal fathers who didn't have to be their biological fathers. The source is a 'historian' who was regarded as a fake in antiquity by Christians. In writing, this is called an ass-pull.

  • I've argued with Holding via email. He's an asshole of the nth degree. He LOVES to make personal attacks, which I fnd rather strange for someone who has the love of Jesus in his heart. Keep up the good work Brett. If not for people like you, more might fall victim to bullshit...and lose mega bucks in the process.

You're doing mankind a valuable service.

  • Id like to bring these verses some publicity: 2samuel 12:15-18

  • Well said/done ★★★★★

    Katalyzt

  • Hey Brett, Holding is as you would say, crapping, videos up. And while he didn't credit you, and you probably didn't think he behaved well,

I'm pretty sure he at least has followed two of your rules (sticking to the topic and bringing new stuff) YMMV about behaving himself.

I'd say give him another chance. But don't spend too much time on production, you probably think he doesn't deserve it.

  • darn busy weekend..darn lag-ey intermetz!must watch later...

  • Dude, you're way too intelligent to waste your time on this nonsense!

Why waste your brain power on one passage of a book we know is all nonsense, to respond to a doofus apologist that will never change his views, when you could be applying it to medical research?

(Of course, I'm glad you do because I really enjoy your videos)

  • @AtheismandSkepticism It's not for Holding. He has a financial interest in keeping his trough filled with slop. I spent so much time/effort on this to 1.) make an example of Holding as a dishonest, sloppy apologist and 2.) to give fence sitters a reason to pick the right side (!) and 3.) as a reference source for other skeptics who are arguing this subject with believers but who may not have the time to research the data themselves. (And thanks for the kind words!!)

  • Ah, you pwned the twat in the ass!

  • That moron is still rambling on and on about why he thinks the guy was bald over on his channel, apparently oblivious to the fact there simply is no justification for bears attacking children. Holding is quite the amusing little troll

  • Me low brow like pictures.

    Not can read text.

    Urgh...

  • You deserve all the attention you get, man. Your vids are informative, well thought out and just plain epic.

  • .Lowbrow subscriber here. Just look at my screenname. Good to see you back pumping out vids, Brett. Keep an eye out for those bears though!

  • Comment removed

  • it's amazing how much somebody today will assume about society 2000 years ago and then call it fact.

  • So Holding is saying that those who question biblical stories are low bow? And those who swallow them whole or make excuses for them are not? Some things never change.

  • Happy to be one of the "Low Brow" unwashed masses :-D

  • I haven't watched Holding's videos. Don't plan to. Was his assertion that given the reasons (he claims) Elisha was bald, that insulting him because of it created just cause for him to got all beast master and summon bears to murder them?

  • Foreign Exchange as background music? awesome.

  • I'm a bear and god told me to maul those children.

  • I shall continue to ba a low-brow watcher!

  • rofl, thunderf00t an intelligent skeptic.

  • @aaronk1994

    Have you seen his videos?

  • @Mectrixctic

Aaron is probably thinking of the videos he has done on the Bible. He has a few videos responding to those. Most of us agree that there is a marked difference between Thunderf00t's refutations of young earth creationism (very good indeed) and his videos on the Bible (just awful). I am sure you wouldn't find them very good either.

  • @Mectrixctic Yes, which is why I laugh at Brett calling him an "intelligent skeptic."

  • @aaronk1994

Then I remark that you haven't seen his videos, outside the ones on the Bible.

  • @Mectrixctic Exactly, his videos on the Bible are abysmal beyond belief. "Intelligent skeptic" (at least to me), does not just mean an intelligent person who happens to be skeptical, it means that they are knowledgable about the subject; Thunderf00t clearly isn't.

  • @aaronk1994

Most of his videos aren't on the bible. If you mean his skeptism towards the bible, then he's an ignoramus. His skepticism on YEC is pretty justified.

  • @Brettppalmer, Watch out! Holding is going to make another waah waah video now.

  • Elisha had cancer and God was giving him chemo therapy... See? the Bible contains scientific knowledge! [/sarcasm]

  • Who cares if he is naturally bald or not? It is not RELEVANT to whether or not it is justified to cause death and grave injuries to children... Yes it is bullshit what he says about it too (making facts out of thin air as usual) but devoting a whole video to debunking what is essentially a red herring is unnecessary imo.

  • 17min of pwnage

However, this video reminds me of this one also found on YouTube: /watch?v=RFZrzg62Zj0

  • Incidentally, just to further drive a stake through Holding's bullshit, I know a guy who has a bald patch far bigger than prince William's, and he's 23 years old. First time I met him I thought he was 40-something.

So, the idea that a young person couldn't be naturally bald strikes me as especially nonsensical.

However, as Brett says: "What does this have to do with the story of Elisha and the bears?"

The point remains that Mr. Nice Guy God thinks slaughtering kids with bears is okay.

  • Haha, the impotent posturing: "the chance to watch him lose it," yeah you really had him jumping up and down, Brett, you truly are the puppet master

  • "brettp "oh, actually I agreed with you" palmer"

    JP Holding.

    Lol.

  • Yeah, I kill a bunch of kids for mocking me and later the trial is focused on my hairdo.

Hell, if I'd take the bible literally, as long as I have a certain hairstyle for a certain reason, the LORD will kill everybody I curse.

  • Elisha was bald because he lost a bet. Ironically enough the bet was on a Bears game.

My comment on Holdings video "...The Vengeance" (since it won't likely see day light over there"

"Funny, I was thinking your videos needed less original art and more sources as to why Brett is incorrect. Other than making fun of him and making sweeping statements. "

  • Brett you got owned so hard on this topic it's not even funny anymore, just drop it

  • @mygrossfetish "you got owned so hard on this topic"

Well sure, if you take into account that Holding made up his own version of the story, where the end result is contained in the original texts. I can just as easily make up own version, where any given part is different, and claim that I won.

  • 3. The boys also don't believe that Elijah ascended and are daring Elisha to prove them wrong by going up to heaven himself. So Yahweh is punishing them for their skepticism, so to speak (of course they reason they doubt is because, like most Jews of the monarchic period, they worshiped many gods, and think Elijah and Elisha are crazy for claiming Yahweh is the only god).

  • I knew a guy of 20 who was as bald as Dr Phil and lots of guys with some level of baldness in high school.

I'm subscriber and a fan but this was too long and about nothing.

There is no excuse for killing people for what they say.

  • 2. But Elisha disagrees and it turns out that, since they can't find the body, Elisha is right, and Elijah went bodily up to heaven (I'm talking about the internal logic of the text, naturally).

Within this context, I would unpack the boys' taunts this way: Elisha is not in fact bald, since he isn't morning Elisha who he doesn't believe is dead. But the boys don't believe this and are suggesting that he ought to shave his head in mourning.

  • 1. Actually, I don't have any problem with assuming that Elisha's baldness is to be understood by the reader as a sign of mourning. Just because it is sometimes specifically mentioned, doesn't mean it always has to be. But after looking the text over (which i would never have done without you stimulating me through these videos), I would read it in this way.

In the immediately preceding chapter, the other prophets want to look for and bury Elijah's body.

  • I went to high school with a guy who was almost bald by his senior year.

  • Let us not forget that explaining the bible is like lying to cover the original lie.

  • You know the only real cure for a man going bald?

    Castration.

It works. You know why there are some women who love bald men? Because they know what it's like to fuck a guy loaded with testosterone.

Boys have all their hair. MEN go bald.

  • @Skindoggiedog As a man with a receding hairline at 20, you've just made me feel a little better about myself =P

  • @Skindoggiedog hahahaha, a devastating blow to the hairy hippies :P - wait- jesus had long hair, right ???

  • The entire things is a red herring. The buybull only says that Elisha was bald (who cares why), and that he was mocked for it. The travesty of the story is that god sent bears to kill the kids, proving god's petty and murderous immorality.

  • Your choice of channels you're getting your inspiration from is great, and it shows in your videos.

I guess I should stop getting mine from Epic Meal Time...

  • If upon my father's death (I mourned), a flaming chariot had swooped down and carried that good man into the heavens, I would have rejoiced and nothing kids could have done or said would have dampened my joy. I guess Elisha just didn't actually witness the chariot bullshite business. Great to see a B. Palmer video again!

  • Wow ... Only you could make an interesting video of 15 minutes about baldness - and still make it interesting.

  • The verse from exodus that you shudnt make a graven image is only if your goin to use that image for a god the bible has no problem with graven images (just sayin)

  • Why the hell are we splitting hairs over baldness? He caused bears to come out of the wood-works to MAUL CHILDREN!

  • I don't know about your other subscribers, but my brows are in the correct place - being neither too low, nor too high!

  • The knots apologists tie trying to justify things is almost painful to watch.

It says a lot, how much they need to squirm. One would think an all knowing, all loving god could inspire a holy book that was clearly good with ease. And yet, this one is full of things that seem grotesque, and only with tortuous reasoning can they be excused. (Hypothetically, anyway. None of the arguments I've seen have ever actually excused them, even were the arguments true. Which they aren't.)

  • Focusing on personal attacks rather than the actual issue. I agree.

  • my dad is bald, i wonder if people will talking about it in 2000 years from now?

  • @starwave1967 Only if he conjured up a group of bears to devour a bunch of children for mocking him about it. But WHY is he bald? That is the important question.

  • So glad to see you back Brett! I hope your time off was both enjoyable and productive. I think this vid has to one of your best so far. As always the content is extreemly well spoken, and the editing is smooooth as silk on silk. I normally won't even sit through anything longer than 5 minutes. But because of the quality flow of entertainment and education, this just flew by and was over to soon.

  • Since I don't know the back story, I would like to have a link. You didn't put one in because you were having a tantrum yourself. Put a link in!

  • Beautiful, great bit of labour there.

From a moral stand point the reason for the baldness has no meaning. So Elisha had reason to feel hurt and angry. So what, that justifies most of the children of a village? Because some old guy got his feelings hurt??

It says somethings about his god but none of them are good or moral. I'm an old fart I've been humiliated by young'ens, I wanted to kick their little butts, but kill them? That is utterly egocentric and immoral. Or I'm better than god.

  • Was that LowBrow or Lowenbrau?

  • Lowbrow Element is only name I'll answer to from now on.

  • I really couldn't care less. The whole point is that in the Bilebull, the "merciful" god has bears tear children apart just for being cheeky, which - gosh, shock, horror - is what kids do.

  • love you but this was a lot of work for so little, parsing words and splitting nonexistent hairs over some f-tard who doesn't know his arse from his hand. Last couple/plus minutes would have done fine with some more thoughtful editing.

  • what the fuck is the point of this? yeah, so that jesus lover spent 9 minutes about this nobodies age and baldness... you just spent 13... who gives a shit?

  • Nicely done again. That's an other point to you.

  • Ezekiel 44:20

They shall not shave their heads or let their locks grow long; they shall surely trim the hair of their heads.opps

  • Another wonderful video from Brett,. And what makes it even better is the inclusion of Non Stop, the old ITN News theme from the 50's 60's & 70's!

  • I like your pictures, Brett. I think you're easily up there with thunderf00t and csbair and I always love when you bring out new videos :)

  • Hmmm, Holding moderates the comments of his own stuff. A favourite christian tactic. I expected nothing less from the likes of him.

  • The reason for the baldness doesn't matter.

Imagine if someone walked out of a church in a black suit (suggesting he had been to a funeral) - if some kids said 'fuck of blackie' would he be justified in mowing them down?

  • I'm a lowbrow element!

  • proud lowbrower!

  • Holding's full of crap. It doesn't matter why the guy was bald--there is NO SPOKEN INSULT which justifies the person giving the insult be slain or mauled by a bear, and particularly if the person giving the insult is a little child.

  • "Wait, hold on my fellow rogues. Let's stop to confirm that's he bald because he's in mourning!"

    "He is, he IS!"

"What sort of Prophet of God defies the laws of his holy book!? Let's give him a test of righteousness, if he passes and walks on unprovoked by our taunting then we'll all be suitably impressed, right?"

  • Like this video if you're low brow.

  • @62netty: That is exactly what I was going to say. The shaving of ones head was common when considering the outbreak of lice. Not always effective, but a step in the right direction. No hair, no bugs = "clean". At least it makes sense according to Leviticus.

To be clear, I don't make excuses for the bible, and there is certainly no excuse for the slaying of children, I'm just positing a thought supplimental to the video.

My guess is, that's why this was part 1.

  • The only low-brow element I know of is boron.

  • It always amuses me the extent that these people will go to just to get out of admitting that their god did something that we today would think of as wrong.

  • the bible is bullshit, there, I saved hours of discussion.

  • Maybe Elisha had lice. Lice were the most common reason to shave one's head in the ancient world. Having lice was also kind of a social stigma, something that would've invited low brow youngsters to make fun of someone.

  • @62netty Or, perhaps a meteor landed near Elisha the week before, contaminating him with hair-destorying radiation that, in the years to come, would render him with a third but useless testicle. He then spread radiation sickness wherever he went; especially prone were the youth, as their bodies did not produce enough testosterone to ward off the peculiar infection.

Or, perhaps, he was just an old bald fuck.

  • It is irrelevant if, or how Elisha is bald, There can never be an excuse for the murder of children whether they are 6 or 16 its an inexcusable story in the bible. As the rather crude saying goes "you can't polish a turd"

  • and good to say you are back Brett! I'm happy to be a lowbrow element subscriber :p

  • @KnownNoMore Lowbrow? That's somewhat insulting.

  • Holding is the master of red herrings. Almost none of the things he said mattered. In the end he could simply have concluded that mocking a prophet of YHWH is treason towards the highest authority possible and therefore deserves the death penalty. Which surely is Biblical. Anyone in the Bible who goes against God in whatever way in the end deserves death. So what do all the other details matter in the end?

Dont get caught in Holding's dragged out spewathons Brett. It wastes too much time.

  • My nephew is in his twenties and he's virtually bald. It runs on the male side of my wife's family. His father (my wife's brother) also was prematurely bald and so was my father-in-law -- essentially completely bald by the time he was thirty.

And many of those pictures show ancient Egyptians, who routinely shaved their heads and wore wigs.

  • who the fuck cares he still killed innocent people either way.

  • Attension seeker or not the videos you make are intellegent and well presented. I like watching them.

  • Finally... the brettppalmer has come BACK... to YouTube. I can SMELL-L-L-L-L-L-L-L what the brettppalmer is cookin' and it smells like he just laid the smack down on an apologist's rooty poo candy ass!

Pardon the low brow comment. I figured I'm entitled since I enjoy your videos so much.

And I hate to contradict, but even though I'm an atheist, I can't even SLEEP at night, wondering and pondering and agonizing over why Elisha was bald. I don't see how anyone could.

  • "Like stupid, or moron is today."

Actually, Brett, I prefer the term, "You're being such a Holding" when insulting someone to the Nth degree possible.

  • WHo fucking cares why he is bald???

  • @reafdaw01 Hair Club for Men and any doctor that does hair restoration surgery...and most women

  • It never ceases to amaze me how by trying to weasel their way out of a serious problem with their religion apologists will resort to pure invention that makes the problem even WORSE.

That song just came to mind. "I shot the sheriff", except in this case it's more "I'm completely innocent! I never shot the sheriff at all! Sure I killed everybody ELSE in town, AND their animals, and took a dump on the sheriff's bed, but I didn't kill the guy!"

Quit while you're not ahead, Holding.

  • I think more wisdom from a cartoon would be better gotten from an episode of "Tailspin" than Holding's video.

  • Oh, I get it. They called him names so it was just for them to be ripped apart... huh?

  • Greetings from Finland. Thanks for posting, please keep up the good work!

  • Why would the cause or rarity of baldness be of any concern, even age of the Elisha or the age of the children/teens who did the mocking is of little importance when we have a story about a guy whos response to a verbal insult was unleashing two very much deadly animals on the children/teens to a point when 42 of them were mauled to death.

I mean wtf... Even if it was 42 men, who mocked a bolding 20something they still did not deserve to die. Lowbrow in me prevents me from understanding...

  • Excellent line of argument and refutation. Holding is often waxes thick with his anti-atheist language, it is good to see him put in his place--and done so with respect and class.

  • Bald people are not depicted in ancient artwork. So what? How many bald obese or pimply people do you see on billboards or in magazines? We depict the beautiful in art far more often than the average. Most americans are overweight and most depictions of americans in media are thin muscular beautiful etc...

  • Welcome back, Brett!

This guy really can't leave well enough alone, can he? Most apologists would just lay low for a while and pretend your refutation doesn't exist, but he doubled down, throwing an ad hominem in to boot!

  • You did a great job with this video TBS!

    Thumbs up from Sweden!

  • From a lowbrow to another, what you do is very important and surely opens the eyes of believers.

  • glad your back brett.

  • It doesn't matter why he was bald. Mourning...fashion...damn chemotherapy. Children don't deserve to be mauled for it.

  • @blurglide In other words, why are you wasting so much time discussing why he's bald or how common it was? It doesn't matter in the slightest.

  • Let's see if I understand this...if Elisha was prematurely bald (or bald as he was in mourning for someone who had just been taken to paradise), and was cruelly mocked by a group of foul-mouthed yobs. notorious in the neighbourhood..then it is OK for the Creator of the universe to somehow get into the minds of a few wild bears to 'cause' them to rip the kids to shreds. At the very least, the story is bizzare..'he' could have just zapped them. What's with the bears? Proportionate punishment?

  • Yays welcome back. So "lowbrow elements" now means people that go away and think about what you've said, rather than accepting everything as the word of some divine entity?

" Highbrow" is now an insult. xD

  • Holy crap Brett its been too long! Stop taking time off! Seriously your video's are great, pls dont take off for that long again.

  • Holding is using a common apologist tactic, when someone won't swallow their silly fairy tales or their explanation, simply make up even more crap.

Nice smack-down, appreciated by all your 'low-brow' subscribers!

  • Good to see another video but I think this was unnecessarily long. You could have simply stated that the baldness issue was only something he was hung up on and then reminded everyone that the reason for baldness does not matter in the end. It also doesn't matter, in the end who the people who were mauled are. :/

Just point out that justifying murder, be you a god or human being, is wrong and move on ;)

I'm really looking forward to the next video :D

  • @thegyger:"Good to see another video but I think this was unnecessarily long"

I love Brett's videos, but I have to agree that too much energy is being spent here to address such a minor point about why the prophet was bald.

The major problem of course is why the bible god is so unfairly vindictive and sadistic

  • @AtheistToothFairy - "TESTIFY BRUTHA!" LOL

  • @thegyger:"TESTIFY BRUTHA"

Doesn't it amaze you that what is so OBVIOUS to us, just is so hidden to the minds of the deeply indoctrinated?

  • @AtheistToothFairy - Not really, i can see how things are from their perspectives because I used to be one of those religious types. It's not that you can't see its that you don't dare let yourself see because you convince yourself, on a daily basis, that what you believe is true.

The most effective and powerful form of deception is self deception.

  • @thegyger:"i can see how things are from their perspectives because I used to be one of those religious types"

As was I, long ago, so I very much understand what you mean by forcing oneself to ignore factual information in favor of religious apologetics.

For example, it took me at least a decade to go from evolution denier, to evolution being seen as reality.

To me, it was just part of 'growing up' and using my head, rather than my emotions to discover reality.

  • @thegyger

Errr, you have watched Holding's (TektonTv's) original video right? You do know that Holding argues that no one was actually killed so he wouldn't have been justifying murder, right?

  • @ukchristian28 Other than the fact that the youths were "torn" and when humans are "torn", they are either killed, or seriously hurt. Holding likes to alter the bible so suit his own (false) arguments.

  • @HonestTechnoAtheist

Regardless of whether you are correct or not in what you said there, I was pointing out that most of the people commenting on this video don't even know what Holdings arguments are. Holding doesn't believe the youths were innocent little 5 year olds who were being a bit cheeky and he argues that no one was killed. Whatever I might have said about you in the past, at least you bothered to actually learn what has been argued.

  • @ukchristian28

The word Baqa means tare. While it doesn't necesairly mean kill, the youths would have been seriously injured, and it is unlikely that the author intended them to all survive.

  • @Mectrixctic

As I said the HTA, that' wasn't my point. Most of the posters on here have no idea what J.P Holding was actually arguing because they haven't bothered to check. At least you and HTA can disagree and respond to what he has actually said. Some of these posters saying "you can't defend the murder of children period" obviously can't.

  • @ukchristian28

Yeah, but I feel he should have made a difference between intelligence and knowledge.

Anyways, Holding's argument doesn't show up until part 4, but I do find it hard to sympathesize with the commentors since they didn't even click the link to see his explanation.

  • I was just wondering when you'd be uploading another video.

Always great stuff, keep up the good work.

  • Another lowbrow here. Good to see you back. Go get 'em.

  • Great video as always. Lowbrow subscriber out

  • Great to see you back Brett...we missed you :)

  • <------- lowbrow subscriber.

  • Dude, I was wondering where you've been. Good to see you back, bro

  • Fir-*gunshot*

  • @TheLordOfTheSporks 100% relevant to video.
