Could somebody please tell me if the English are Celts or Germanic or mix. I was born with English blood, was born in Yorkshire, and am a British citizen but moved to America pretty young. Just curious to find out what I am. As far as I know, English are Britons with Anglo-Saxon culture.

Could somebody please tell me if the English are Celts or Germanic or mix. I was born with English blood, was born in Yorkshire, and am a British citizen but moved to America pretty young. Just curious to find out what I am. As far as I know, English are Britons with Anglo-Saxon culture.

@Andrewmation855 No they only real celtic peoples left are the Irish and welsh.Most english are of Anglo saxon origin the saxons killed most of the celts living in briton and they only married and had kids with other saxons so if you where born in yorkshire theres a chance you might have some Scottish blood as scots are descendent mainly from the Irish tribe Scoti.

Plus even if they're false, it doesn't matter because I recently found out my family also comes from Cornwall. And yes, I am also Scottish.

Yea thats true, but since western norway has the same climate as northern britain, it got settled by the same people as in britain after the ice age. The deer in western Norway, have the same genes as the deer in Scotland, unlike the deer in the rest of Europe. The Charudes people from Hordaland used to fight along the celts against the romans before they got pushed into Norway by the Danes, and before the vikings took over Normandy there was a celtic tribe there.

@mofo316ok the genetic makeup between celts and nordic peoples is very similar, we are both pale skinned, mostly blue eyed, and very tall peoples. Also the norse lived here in ireland long ago, before we drove them out, they intermarried with the locals and this is why you commonly get irish people with blond hair instead of red, or light brown.

@mofo316ok After the ice age the people in coastal Norway, Ireland and Britain were the same, short and dark. Now the traces of these people can be found in the western parts of Norway, Ireland and Wales. Modern celts and germanic peoples came from eastern Europe with tall blond/red haired, blue eyed people in the north and a bit shorter similar celtic people in the south they both have a bit higher forhead than people from the atlantic coast of Europe.

Hogwash. When 'culture' existed, people refused to inter mix, unless the cultures were common. African culture for example is not common with Finnish culture, so I highly doubt either group would have mixed, however simple human interactions such as trading took place. Other than that I doubt vikings married iranian woman, or chinese woman. On top of that, these people had little to no contact with one another.

Thats true, it desecrates a nation if anything. I live in a nation where we learn nothing of OUR own roots. We only learn about third world nations and how wonderful they are, yet they have accomplished little in human history, nor have the made any advancements since primitive times. I would perfer to learn about Norway, Russia, Ireland, Germany, or Rome, as oppose to Islam, India, or Africa. I have no use for third world history.

I think the real difference is some people are proud of their nation & ethnicity and others just hate everyone who is different. I'm proud to be Scottish, I'm proud of my Irish roots but I admire and am fascinated by many other cultures.
