GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDD OOOFFF OOFFFF OOOOOOOOOFFF F F F F F AMAAAAMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Even listening to Dj Bailey now even he has been laying off the Choppage on his show, he usually plays some towards the end, I heard himself say that he feels Choppage has not really progressed much as a sound, I hope he doesnt go down the same path, like Clowny, Jump Up, Party styles are whats classed as progressive DnB. progressing to shit I say, Im an old Junglist been into from the hardcore days & still following it, I hated 98 to Y2K Ed Rush Optical Techstep DnB & there many clones
Why do you never here these Amen choppage styles get much play in the clubs from the majority of Djs out there, I usually here bland souless Clownstep, Techstep & Jump Up even with the big Djs like Grooverider who I heard say on his show that he dont like Amen tunes, how can this be? if you were around during the Hardcore & Jungle days breaks should be what moves you
grooverider actually said that?! How can he feel that way after he did so much to push the techstep sound through the 90's? There's something not right about that, not right at all, like u said m8 it's all about the breaks. Always has been in my books anyway
Yes he said that for sure about 5 years ago, you only have to listen to his "Rider Radio" show recently to hear just what hes playing, Pendulum stuff Clownstep, Grimey, Party Jump Up styles even Dillinjas tunes are really naff & cheesey, thinking back to his 90s tunes I ask myself the same question, mainstream appeal, diluting the DnB sound to something like happy DnB hardcore & selling out is the result, my heart lies in Drumfunk, Choppage, Equinox, Paradox, Subtle Audio, Inp, etc
Choppage & Inperspective is what kept the Jungle roots alive for me since I heard Bailey championing them styles in the early Y2K, if it wasnt for them I would have lost interest & decided all DnB is shit now & be of the same opinion as many old Junglists that stop listening back in 97, I kept my mind open & knew the Ragga styles that made Jungle popular was not going to last & as much as I like those styles I knew there was more to Jungle then that, its Hardcore Jungle Techno right
98-Y2K was a difficult time 4 everyone i think, although i did actually find stuff i liked on renengade hardware, prototype, moving shadow, penetration, emotif, ram, valve etc. 4 me bad company were the saviours of it all going shit. I loved that experimental grunge vibe, but i know what u mean there was way too much shite geting released. I loved the resurection of oldskool vibes in the early naughties and was feeling all of pendulums early stuff, for me that was some much needed progression
but never in my wildest dreams could i have predicted clownstep would come along and fuck it all up, now i don't say that just to sound contoversial or whatever, iv actually listened to it and tried to find something i can identify with, but i can't. To me it's just agression for the sake of it, over the top harsh synth lines that carry no vibe at all, except for agression. But this tracks agressive in all the right ways, this takes me right back to when i first heard squadron by trace and nico
i honestly hope and prey that the clownstep movement will fade out like many other trends that have come and gone and thats not to say im happy that other trends have died out, but im tellin u m8 il celebrate the day when i can hear beats like this tear down dance halls once again as opposed to some fuckin original shit sorry i mean sin ; )
I think it is because, Groove(grooverider) used to play a big part in 'what tunes made into the clubs' now in the digital era, he has effectively lost a huge percentage of the control he used to have.
Tunes no longer have to pass through his record box first(so to speak) that is probably why he doesn't play a lot of the other stuff-heavy amen or anything else)
@LFactorSA Early Techstep by Dom & Roland, Ray Keiths label Penny Black, Dread (Twisted Anger), No U Turn i liked but when the whole Ed Rush & Optical (virus) thing blew up late 90s the breaks took a back seat & monotonous 2step beats & Techno sounds became the dominant style, not to mention the many other copycat tunes that oversaturated dnb especially in the period 1998 - y2k, all of it just sounded too bland & samey for me

Could we get this tune upped again with a little less on the bass please Mr CableMetaboic? It's distorting even on very low volume here...

@liferasta1 What is wrong with techstep? My favorite genres are Jungle/ragge , techstep , darkcore (not the techno kind)
