I thought"Pleasantville" was the least subtle"heavily metaphoric movie in history;after you had sex ,you want from black and white to 'colored"--and of course ,the normal people white eventually started going after the"coloreds"--(Using that exact word).The bigger ridiculous message was that everyone from the 50's was an unimaginative,conformist idiot-and everyone from the 60's was enlightened... Best soundtrack ever,though...
Verr funny.No shit.But by the standards of Hollywood Sci/i Horror--I thought "They LIve" was pretty cool, South Park thought so too....and John Carpenter does know how to scare people,,I never saw any scarier picture of "Police" than in that movie;gleefully moving through homeless camps in a wide line with their clubs.. ...looks like the future of 3d world America...
@Mystikal22693 "They Live" is absolutely worth watching.It was made 20 years ago but you'll think you're watching a movie about present day America unraveling;and there's a fight scene between Roddy Piper and Davis Keith that's legendary;the South Park guys use it exactly to portray their "Cripple Fight"...made by John Carpenter,who did the original Halloween,the Fog,and "TheThing" remake..
@youpooper1234567890 I am from Bulgaria, and here the only people I've heard not sending their kids to school are the less educated gypsies - it just kinda goes against their culture, and they get a lot of trouble from child services for that, it's free after all.
Being home-schooled doesn't mean you don't have access to the outside world. I find it funny that people who went to public school think that because I was home-schooled I know nothing about sex, so I use this as an opportunity to shock new acquaintances at random moments with bouts of unforeseen crassness. It's fun.
@PurpleMintSam OR, homeschooled kids live on another level of social existence, communicating with themselves on a higher realm of consciousness. I mean, what else would you do if you didn't have tv?
@TheBloodyloon Common misconception, Homeschooling is no synonymous with Amish. I half expect my brother to marry the Xbox and create on her with the mini TV joystick game in his room. Of course I'd never call my brother normal by any stretch of the imagination.
@TheBloodyloon Sorry dude. I was homeschooled too and you would not believe how many times people asked if I was Amish in public high school. Really wish they'd hurry up and approve that old sarcasm mark idea. LOL
@bustacaptx Sooooo, I was homeschooled and I can assure you I had more than my share of socializing. It's pretty sad when you have to rely on school to make friends. Me? I just walked out my front door and met whoever the hell was outside playing. Your public school education has clearly removed your ability to theorize other ways of meeting people. So sad you became dependant on that as your only form of human contact.
@Claedi: a) It was a joke, a jibe, a quip, a bon mot.
b) "[T]heorize" other ways of meeting people? The word "theorize" doesn't mean what you seem to think it does. You're searching for something more like "conceive of", "imagine" or "comprehend." When you're touting home-schooling's advantages over public schools, you might want to be a bit more careful with your diction.
@bustacaptx Actually, you're not reading it in the sense I intended. I meant theorize other ways of meeting people, as in hypothesis, sit down and think to yourself some other system or way. Theorize is synonymous with formulate and develop, and that is exactly the sense I used it in. So, maybe my home school education has given me broader understanding of words than just their one and most literal meaning. When you're calling me out, you might want to be sure you know what you're talking about.
@Claedi: I know perfectly well what you *intended* to say; trouble is, what you actually said didn't match your intent. Words mean what they mean, regardless of how they are (mis)used. Q.E.D.
@bustacaptx You believe you know what I intended to say, but you continue to believe that I intended to say 'imagine', or something along those lines. I intended to use the word theorize as synonymous with hypothesize, and it worked in the situation, whether your understanding of either of those words grasped it or not. Words mean what they mean, but anyone who picks up a dictionary once in a while knows that words have more than just one literal meaning... You're grasping at straws.
@Claedi If you meant to say what you actually typed, then your clue provisions are running lower than I had initially supposed. The word is incorrectly used, kid, and you're apparently too ignorant to know it ... as well as inexplicably fond of demonstrating that ignorance in public. What a wonderful example of the homeschooling ethos: an inept teenage writer who's too dumb to realize it.
