also people YES it DOES work with AVI files.. i simply followed what he did in the video and avi simpsons episode streamed perfectly to a friend down the road. (f.y.i my upload speed is 0.8 megs for anyone who's worrieed abuot theirs.)

@Phoerocks it's pirvate. but if someone grabs your ip I highly doubt hes going to look for open ports. and try to type it in to VLC lol.

Can you simply use Hamachi to connect to the stream? A few friends and I want to watch movies together from different computers, but I figure using Hamachi would be a way to skip port forwarding, or is the port forwarding absolutely necessary?

VLC is unable to open the MRL 192.168.1.1:13333'. Check the log for details.

@WaRaJoKeR that could be few things- did that person type in the address right? it could be something with the transcoding, when you stream, try to open your own stream via "network stream" and if you can view it, it works you set it up right, if you get an error or it doesnt open, the set up is wrong.

very helpful. But now how do you embed your video stream into your website? Lets say im streaming live video, this way people dont even have to have VLC.

today i had my movies streaming to my dad's imac the other side of townj, but the tools i used produced jerky images at the receiving end

i trust vlc won't have that nuissance thing
