  • I had the chance to see this movie back in 2000, when I was only 9 years old. It made me feel so hopeless, like I will never grow up and experience my future, like I will just kill myself like they did because I felt the same back then. I watched it again last night and, honestly, it captured the same feelings. Always when this soundtrack comes up in my ipod I just stop doing whatever I'm doing and just drown myself in memories of my childhood mixed with the scenes from this movie.

  • this movie is about a feeling.

it makes you feeling empty, unsatisfied, lonely, miserable, sad.. just, empty.

the movie, the book, and the soundtrack theyre so good together, and they all make us feel the same feeling

  • @nononAnna It´s the same name in germany i think, but the book in your country is Die Selbstmord-Schwestern

I hope help you!sorry for my bad english :P

    greetins from Buenos Aires!

  • how the fuck i have never heard this movie and this song. this is a masterpiece of sofia coppola! how the hack she manages to find the right places, actors/actresses, music and composition to make a powerfully atmospheric movies.

  • This song brings it all back. <3 Cecilia was my favorite.

  • read the book. Jeffrey Euginides. Amazing. The soundtrack is also amazing. (The movie was ok)

  • they killed themselves because they felt trapped...and they couldn't find a way out....at least thats what i think....cuz i feel the same way....

    <3 this!!!!

  • @imacoltsfan It's open to speculation, which is just one reason why i love this movie so much. It gives you so much insight into things that most people don't ever think about, and talk about even less.

  • the only part that i didnt get was the gas masks and the boy jumping in the pool....im sure its a metaphor for something but idk...

  • I love that the haunting movie is complimented by such a haunting soundtrack. Sophia Coppola does awesome soundtracks to her movies!

  • cool..

  • haunting........

  • I¨m so sorry...

  • man.....im so in love with this song..its so depressing and i feel so bad for the girls...

  • Something sad? Someone that has to be high to fully enjoy a great piece of music.

  • see what religion. does too ya :(

  • @OzzyDave6969 religion didn't do that. the mom did.

  • @backoncemore So right on! Love ya :)

  • @IronCladLady81 thanks!

  • @backoncemore

well said, and I also think all the girls were disturbed themselves

  • @ciccicasillas agreed! they all had something a little off inside of them.

  • @ciccicasillas you have to be disturbed to commit suicide....?

  • @backoncemore not just the mum... also the youngest sister's death, trip fontaine, almost anything

  • @m2mfan4eva you're right! lol.

  • @OzzyDave6969

    what ignorants like you do!

  • air makes me sad.

    I love it.

  • So this soundtrack really is inspired by the Fantastic planet soundtrack.

The mentioned soundtrack is a MUST if you like this.

    ;)

  • Gran película de Sofía Coppola. Recomendable totalmente!

  • Magical.

  • Tripping. Psychedelic . I'm lost.

  • I love AIR not to mention this song, but it feels like a rip off of Angelo Badalamenti's score for Twin Peaks. Anyone else hear it?

  • Moi je dis bravo AIR !!

  • There's that scene in the movie where the boys come at midnight at the girls' house and they found the dead bodies of 2 sisters. Still, lux told them that the girls were waiting for thier insomniac mother to get asleep. She must have known that the girls were dead. She didn't react at all? Or maybe she or the mother had a part in their death?

  • @darkheartmary

When she talked to the boys, Lux knew her sisters were dead, because suicide was a common decision they took together. The mother couldn't guess that her four daughters were going to commit suicide that night.

  • I think there are many secrets to this book/movie, that only the author will know. It's a mystery. Beautiful, haunting, and sad. It leaves you with this empty feeling... You want to know more. But these girls were secretive people. What went on in their household, in their lives, will never be truly known. So stop saying the Lisbon girls were selfish. It's insensitive. I myself would not have killed myself & I was diagnosed with depression 2 years ago. But I got help, these girls didnt

  • what we might have not lost

  • I've watched the movie right now. Some screenshots, like Ceel on the tree's one or Lux in flowers' sequence, are pure art.....

  • Tragic, yet exhilarating.

  • it's a french group. Yeah i also don't understand the final scene where they jump into the pool. for sure it makes me feel really empty.

  • @cdf44 Its supposed to be a re-enactment of the youngest sister dying (when the drunk guy dove in)

  • @jonimichelle2007 how does it the re-enactment of Cecilia?

  • This is happening to me. I can't go anywhere, I can't see friends, the only place I could go to school, however they girls couldn't. Their mother took them outta school. But I'm not use of staying home all day and night. I'm gonna go crazy. Litterally.

  • this song is beautifully haunting

  • Can someone tell me whats the meaning of the last scene?? Like, whats so "beautiful" about it?? Why did they have gas masks, and why did the guy jump in the pool? Like, haha, I really dont get it. And in the beggining, whos the guy who ate dinner with them? Why did he smell the lipsstick?

  • @LDkrazyVids you should read the book.

  • amazing song :)

  • its about their mothers control over the household and belief that sheltering your children and not allowing them to experience growing outside the home and being young the girls didnt see anyway out other then death

  • @dadadruma

there's that, but i also believe that they couldn't live without cecilia. i also believe that some sort of supernatural presence cuccooned the girls (maybe cecelia was an angel?). plase don't laugh, that's only my theory.

  • @SChique00 no worries i never laugh listening to ones point of view unless they are either ann coulter or sarah palin

    he he he

  • @SChique00 in the book they described that when cecilia first slashed her wrists she released a disease into the air that eventually affected all the other girls.... hypothetically speaking of course... it also said how the neighbourhood felt sorry for the four girls because they felt that cecillia was at fault for starting the "disease," though no one ever really wondered how she got it.

  • @Jessalyn7ate9

But that goes back to the nature and mindset of the neighbourhood families; in the book it also mentions that the parents kept their children from attending Cecilia's funeral to protect them from the poisonous tragedy. Anything strange and foreign (in this case, suicides) is described as diseased, and must be covered up or removed. Maybe the effect on the girls was not one of a diseased nature? It's something to consider. Look also at what Mrs. Karafilis says about Americans.

  • I love listening to this song high.

  • @butterflyrape:

    high on what?

  • i agree

  • youre not supposed to know. the movie is supposed to make you feel unsatisfied and empty

  • haha, spot on.

  • I've just seen this amazing movie, and honestly, you picked out the 2 words to describe how I felt after I've seen it.

One of the greatest movies of all time, I think. No other movie has brought me this kind of feelings yet.

  • i can't imagine the film being any other way, it captured the ambiance of the book so perfectly.

  • Because they were always in the house, they could'nt go out.

  • wow... i'm still very impressed by this movie! great soundtrack

  • i watched the movie twice but didnt understand the main part why did the all four girls commit suicide??why why why??

  • that's the biggest question. the book is just the same, you kinda arent supposed to understand. maybe it's because they knew life would never get better. maybe the idea of being free is just an idea they'll never get. it's really amazingly odd

  • That's the whole point of both the book and the movie. It doesn't tell you. You aren't supposed to get a real answer; everything doesn't go full circle.

  • its simple.

Its because the girls were not allowed the freedom. After the youngest one's death, the parents kept them inside the house, total lockdown. They couldn't bare it and they killed themselves.

(I seen the movie four times ;D)

  • I could understand that, its like prison, us adults can stay inside for as long as we want and leave when we want, but when it comes to kids who have to stay inside on lockdown is eternity to them.

  • and cecilia?she wasn't locked down.i've seen the movie plenty of times and read the book.both end in saying smtg about pieces of the puzzle missing.which i think is always the case in a suicide.you can find a reason or a few of them but a lot of things must come together 4 a person to actually kill him/herself.and you can never fully understand unless you are that person.

  • then again, your not suppose to know.

  • Yes you have to !

  • i need to see this movie dont i?

  • yes its such a great film i havent read the book though, yet i hear good things check it out if you ever get the chance you wont be disappointed

  • its truly is a haunting song i hear it every morning i wake up to go to work... i hate waking up early so that might explain it i cant get this track out of my head ... but who would want to? really? its such a beautiful song

  • i like this one but the one they played in the scene when the parents drove away from the house and they were showing the empty room and all there stuff was a lot more haunting

  • great soundtrack and film!!!

  • such a great soundtrack. brilliant.

    "The virgin suicides"

  • @xzdeathfairyxz the virgin suicides. Its a really great movie but some might call it inconclusive because of the ending. really great to show how death can affect people especially if its from a suicide.

  • Virgin suicides by sofia coppola

  • The music is so scary and bitter... It fits the mood of the movie perfectly.

  • goooooood...

Great fellings listening to this song...

Some parts are ugly (for me) but he others are just perfect
