Are you happy with it then? im going to Alaska this summer and need something along these lines for night time photography, however it isnt its only principle, do you feel f3.5 is enough? there is the 14mm option, but this has a unique take, and allows for cropped sensor cams i believe, any suggestions?
I used to own a D40 but forgot how its flash system works. However if you own a SB600 or higher it works great with the lens.
On the difficulty aspect I would not be scared off. If you are comfortable w the MANUAL shooting mode then you will get the hang of this lens. It's really fun and you'll love the images you can capture with this.
Lastly autofocus is really easy. Just look for the confirmation dot. At f8 and up almost everythings in focus!
To clear things up for everyone I own this lens and use it on a D90. It will only work in MANUAL mode. There is no CPU metering meaning the camera will not tell you what aperture and shutter speed to use. The only way to do this is to either use the SUNNY 16 RULE or simply guess and check using test shots and the histogram.
Aperture is controlled on the aperture ring and shutter speed is still set on the camera. On my D90 the flash works in MANUAL FLASH MODE.
because you have to have the camera settings on manual, you can't use the flash, but not had to much problems with poor light shots, by changing the iso, and lens settings you can get some good shots:)
@nanookjsy On a D60 with a manual lens, that is. A flash on a d60 will work in manual mode with a cpu lens, or on a D7000 or up the flash willa lso work with this lens. you may try to set the flash to manual mode, this way you should be able to use the flash on your d60

Samyang 8mm is a manual focus lens!!! stop asking about autofocus.....
its easy to focus sharp on a wideangel lens like this. It will never ever be a AF lens on any camera.

@cpfsk8er92 Most fish eye lenses dont have af. If you want af in a fisheye your looking at over 1K
bigbone38 1 year ago
@bigbone38 depending on if your camera needs an autofocus motor, if not nikon has one you can get for $600
skatebaker321 1 year ago
@bigbone38 lol... you can do AF with every lens if you got the right cam... you havge to say " it got no af-motor" that would be correct
