  • He's looking good

  • he was gay..and still is,but he is GREAT ACTOR

  • Gandalf is in my pants

  • if he played Dumbledore, all we could see was gandalf :(

  • Omg. I love his voice!

  • Great, now Gandalf x Dumbledore is my OTP.

  • Frodo! are you ready to suuck gandalf stafff?! under his cloak!?

  • @TagRation Gandalf the White can kick Dumbledore's butt any day.

  • @jfp5646 True. If you've read some of the books, Gandalf has been around since that dawn of the third age, and he even helped fight Melkor, who was basically the first dark lord, to whom sauron was just a slave

  • @Mroyy12345 I have; that's the reason for my previous statement. Glad to see a fellow LotR reader.

  • @jfp5646 Hell yeah! (First time i read that I thought you said lick, and was going to chew you out! dyslexia ftw!) I liked the HP movies, but lets face it, I don't think Dumbledore would make it very far against a balrog, whereas Gandalf got KILLED by one after killing it, and then still came back to fight Sauron.... that's just plain epicness!

  • @MattKitten You may be interested to find out, Gandalf as one of the 5 wizards are higher order beings but came to middle-earth in a mortal form and disguised as undying old men to be humble advisers. If you read parts from Unfinished Tales and The Silmarillion it explains in more details. They weren't the archangels but servants of them. Gandalf was a the same "power" level as Sauron and balrog. He could have been a contender to Sauron if he abused his power like Saruman.

  • @jneloop Please do not use "archangels" when referring to the Valar. Tolkien did fuse elements of Christianity with Pagan mythology, but that gives the mythos its own unique identity; to use terms specific to one mythology for analogous but certainly not the same aspects in a different one is very distasteful.

  • @MattKitten That's why you get all that singing by the Valar and Maiar in the background during Saruman's and Gandalf's fight and it's apparent their power is far greater than their physical forms. By the third age, the Valar decreed there would be no more direct intervention and the leftover bad Maiar ( like Balrog, Smaug and Sauron) still had to be dealt with by the mortal races advised by the Istari (the 5 wizards). Mithrandir->Gandalf. Sauron whispers "Mithrandir" on big table.

  • @MattKitten That, and his previous campaigns earlier in the third age makes him, not only durable and enduring, but seriously badass. Cheers.

  • im not going to see part one till part two comes out

  • @ernstism good luck

  • @TheAngoooose thank you

  • "[Gandalf]'s still around. He's at home, in fact."

    So he's your... lover?

    I'm sorry. I couldn't resist.

  • can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Did I hear 2 film's??? YEAH!

  • @TheFirstBloodyNation Yup! one this December and the second next December. I'm curious as to when they will end the first part.

  • so pleased Ian McKellen is back as Gandalf his acting is just superb, cannot wait for this movie, shame its the end of the year AAH!

  • Why is it every video clip I see of Ian McKellen has tons of people going on about his sexual orientation? What the hell does that have to do with anything?

Now I'm really tempted to go on all the straight actors' interviews and say something like "He's so brave to be so open about his heterosexuality! So many might condemn him for it, so I'm really proud of him!"

  • @GamesR4FITE That would be an awesome meme.

  • @TagRation Okay, I'm doing it. ANIMATED GIF TIME GOGO

  • i wonder if they will do The Samillion next...it may be a bit too detached and not known enough to pass as a movie

  • @lozzer2345 but it would be a FUCKING BANGING movie though,, but its so big and there are so many things happening from beginning to end that they probably would have to do it like the harry potter series part 1-8 or something. and then tie everything together with part 8 and 9.

  • Ian and Gandalf: A Love Story.

  • what a magnificent beard

  • his accent is epic and the beard reminds me of dumbledore

  • Is it prejudiced to say we shouldn't care about his sexual orientation because he's old?

  • I dont think there has ever been a more perfect casting than McKellen as Gandalf

  • @613and802 Christoper Lee as Saruman was fairly perfect.

  • @Eatmybologna yes but was he more perfect? ;)

  • I love the Lord of the rings (films and book), I love the Hobbit:There and back again(the book) and im sure the film is going to be amazing. Besides, it has Martin Freeman in it, so it could'nt possibly go wrong.

  • "he's still around, still at home infact" haha :-D

  • @SirTimothyMarton thats what he said...

  • ADDED ON?! For a joke thats bad XD LOTR was made BECAUSE of THE HOBBIT NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND .... Its great this is getting made Im really happy as many are but they shouldve started with this in general and make them chronologically but its alright cause in the end it got made

  • @SirTimothyMarton

He said it "wasn't" added on. Listen again.

  • @EuphrasieF I know he did but it was to confirm to people who watched the movies but havent read the books and some people might have actually thought this was an add on for more money who knew nothing of the series but the movies and that way I felt it was harsh that Hobbit started it off and some people considered it a moneybag follow up to LOTR while The Hobbit made LOTR what it is and I guess the LOTR movies will make the Hobbit movie what it is though its diffrent

  • Can't wait for the hobbit my old drama teacher's husband got a job doing the special effects on it and she left with him to work on the film and Sir Ian Mckellen visited my school which was probably the single most best experience of my life plus I own his autograph now :-D

  • @1TFA nice

  • Dumbledore.

  • @sayonarasuicide lol good troll. i was going to say, "FUCK YOU." but decided against it.

  • @itn

    That's "Sir" Ian Mckellen, cunt.

  • 0:33 "I'm just happy that Gandalf is back in it". Sir Ian, if you're happy, you can not imagine how I am.

  • fantastic actor, cant wait for the hobbit

  • What he says after 0:20 is so true when it comes to other movies and i love the fact that he points it out.

  • Got damn! give me the live-action Peter Jackson version of the Hobbit so there will be a cool movie out I'm interested in seeing.

  • he is an insanely great actor

  • Goddamn, he looks awesome with that beard

  • @htippetts

oh well, i like potter, but well, not enough to know too many names of actors.

but then again, why would you appear in the great HP movies when you are already in the godly LotR Movies.

and now we see him back in the robes in the Hobbit.

  • Richard Harris was the first Dumbledore and Sir Ian had different reasons for turning down the role one was "one of the last things [Harris] did publicly was say what a dreadful actor he thought I was, it would not have been appropriate for me to take over his part. It would have been unfair." and "I had enough trouble living up to one legend. Two would be too much to hope for." So both are probably true.

  • Magneto too!! i like ian very much is a great actor and man

  • He was Gandalf and Magneto! Deal with it!

  • gandalf does smoke a lot of week with that pipe :)

  • Congratulations for the Hobbit Ian u are the best Gandalf Forever!!

  • @rogernur he is the only gandalf ever

  • Who else thinks Ian McKellen should have played Dumbledore?

  • @TagRation I did, too. I actually was very surprised to know that he wasn't the actor behind Dumbledore when I "investigated"

  • @TagRation I read that he was offered the role of Dumbledore but turned it down because he thought he already had his fair share of big budget franchises w/ LOTR and X-Men

  • @SolidGold1980

he turned it down because gambon, dubledore 1, called him a terrible actor.

  • @TagRation

I'd watch that almost like LOTR. :)

  • @TagRation Well he did, didn't he? ...

  • @TagRation Im glad he didnt HP can never amount to the awesomeness of Lord of the Rings

  • @BapestaB This is just my opinion but Harry Potter is a childesh fanasty fairy magic childrens book. While LOTR is a master piece epic saga that anyone between the ages of 12 and 90 can enjoy and does.

  • @TagRation Indeed !

  • @TagRation Lol, I totally agree, but he would have been sooo busy between filming the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings films.

  • @TagRation i thought he did 0.o .. o wait a minute..

  • @TagRation I actually think that would have been really amazing.

  • @TagRation Dumbledore actor that died always critizised ian mckellen's work so ian decided not to do the role out of respect for the later dumbledore...

  • @alahad that's interesting

  • @TagRation Dumbledore is shit compared to Gandalf.

  • @TagRation Actually they wanted him to play Dumbledore but his answear was: "I am already a wizard".

  • Why are you all talking about McKellen being gay? Does it even matter? He's an awesome actor regardless of what he'd like to fuck.

  • Didn't know until now that he was gay, and guess what... NOTHING HAS CHANGED. Can't wait for the Hobbit and Gandalfs return!

  • It's EPIC BEARDTIME! starring Sir Ian McKellan.

  • I CANT BLOODY WAIT FOR THIS MOVIE!!! :D

  • last night i finished watching the LOTR Trilogy and it was the greatest trilogy and movie experience i had since a long time !!! Greatest fantasy trilogy ever made no doubt and I CANT WAT To see the firts trailer for the hobbit witch is coming very soon as of what I've heard .

  • Wouldn't you love to talk to him all day! There would be no boring conversation with Sir Ian!

  • Sir Ian McKellan as Gandalf. Can't argue with that! =]

  • woot i have his autograph!

    He is awesome!

  • Oh my god. Sir Ian with a beard == epic.

  • i really dont think sexual orientation enters into it for gandalf. i get the feeling hes content to sit and smoke hobbit weed out of his pipe. its probably how he decided on those two quests of his. "man, we should all go on a really long walk. like a REALLY long one. and well take swords and shit. how crazy would that be?"

  • @smartcarrollerskates "I got this CRAZY stick. Makes sparks and stuff....hehe....hehehe"

  • @smartcarrollerskates Far out dude. Then we could, like, fight a Dragon and so totally steal his gold!

  • @smartcarrollerskates Also, Gandalf isn't even a human being

  • @smartcarrollerskates Dude, could I please use this scenario to make a voice over for lotr, it would be epic, ill give you credits on it as well - i can just visualise it now!!

  • @SirRob7 if you think theres good in it i suppose :P

  • 10 years later and he's 72, and saruman is now 89!!!

  • hes aged alot

  • Youuu Shaalll not pass...!

  • I so want to stand in front of Ian McKellen and shout: YOU CANNOT PASS!

  • @dpattiris Except He'd Probably Be Like, "Erik? What Are You Doing......... Oh Shit Which Movie Is This Again?"

  • Beard, awesome beard is awesome

  • love that guy

  • I am a nerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd

    I am a nerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd :)

  • Fuck you homophobes!

Gandalf is so manly that he doesn't need gals!

  • @ChaosAndGreed once you reach max level you stop leveling

  • @ChaosAndGreed of course not, im pretty sure the wizards from middle earth are immortal

  • Boy he looks a lot older, but who cares??

  • "He's at home, in fact." You guys. I just had an idea for the best odd-couple sitcom EVER.

  • @jkeuwk Lemme guess, Gandalf and Ian discussing?

  • TO THE BRIDGE OF KHAZAD-DUM!

  • @ChaosAndGreed could he have the ring in his pocket?? haha

  • SILMARILLION!

  • This actor, this man is truly GREAT.

  • Fro the moment I first saw in the Fellowship of the Ring, up until this day all I can think about this man is that he is extremely sympathetic!!!!!!

  • His head looks so... BIG... without all his Gandalf hair!! :o

  • Great actor

  • i hope to see ian on the silmarillion too.

  • I couldn't even imagine someone else playing Gandalf than Ian McKellen.

  • Why is it that Sir Ian McKellen never seemd to be excited about LoTR? He's always like "Yeah it's cool, BUT"

  • @liamsp544 hes too cool to show that hes excited. u dont ever see gandalf going " OMFG ITS THE ROHIRRIM WOOHOO COME SAVE US!"

  • Ian is already growing the beard he needs to play Gandalf ^^

  • When will The Hobbit Part 1 be in theaters?

Will Ian play Gandalf in it?

  • @WhiteStar11111 Dec 14, 2012 and yes he will. Have you been living under a rock?

  • @gandalf117

"Living under a rock" is perhaps ironic phrasing in reference to a movie about hobbits...

...but thank you for the information.

  • did he say there's going to be 2 new films?

  • @SmokiestPanda1 Yes

    The Hobbit: An unexpected Journey

The Hobbit: There and Back Again

  • When Gandalf is Magneto, then Saruman is professor X. Omg, I'm so confused now!

  • Lord of the Rings should've atleast been 6 3-hour movies

  • Shit he's so fuckin cool regardless of his sexual orientation!

  • ten years have passed since Lotr, how is he gonna play like 60 years younger in the hobbit!? :D

  • What a class act and amazing actor.

  • the best parts was............FLEE YOU FOOLS.......and also FOOOOOOL OF A TOOK

  • @SyedNihalZaidi Fly your fools!

  • @blueray1969 yeah my bad

  • @SyedNihalZaidi haha - just me showing what a LOTR-nerd I am :)

  • @blueray1969 haha.........well good.....its a great movie

  • I've met him, shook his hand and got a photo! Get me!

  • ian mckellen is such a great actor and has such a commanding voice

and since he's gay i have a shot

  • <3 Gandalf

  • notice how so many homosexuals are great persons? and also british ? XD

Ian Mckellen is a great actor, Rob Halford is THE BEST metal singer, Freddy Mercury was with QUEEN

do you see my point ?

  • @shatterhandeve Are you trying to prove something?

Bigots won't change their mind about homos and brits because you list a bunch of celebrities. You're wasting your breath.

  • @shatterhandeve Freddy Mercury Was a Queen.

  • @shatterhandeve

Notice how many strainght persons are great

ooooohh .. burn. your argument just sizzled to nothing.

  • @TheLeoOfCostaRica Lol, yours my friend was the best comment I've seen yet.

There was absolutely no way they could have replaced him for The Hobbit and have a successful movie.

  • they have nearly finished filming i know someone who knows an actor in it (cant remember who) has come back from filming should be done in december or so

  • Sir Ian Mckellan was the best actor in LOTR, so happy they didn't replace him or anything, like they tried to with Peter Jackson.

  • If I was ever given one last wish before i die, i would wish to meet the cast from LOTR.....just like that.....

  • @HerrDesTetris YOU...SHOULD...NOT....be a HOMOPHOBE!!!

  • @Slessi What? I thought Saruman was the Homosexual.

  • @HerrDesTetris I thought it was funny.

  • 2 movies? Damn it! I don't want to watch part 1 only to have to wait 6 months to finish the movie!

  • @Jarhead9101775 its 12 month ;)

  • @Jarhead9101775 More like a year. The movies are scheduled for Dec 13th 2012 and Dec 14th 2013.

  • You my friend have a divine beard

  • Sir Gandalf the Grey is portraying Ian McKellen in this interview.

Such a great actor, that Gandalf...

  • @TheLeoOfCostaRica why yes, he plays the role rather convincingly. haha master of all trades I say xD

  • Poor Ian. Forever to be regarded as Gandalf. Which isn't bad. Trust me. But anything he might've done before or after will still be in it's shade. Such is the fate of great roles.

  • @StratConstantine

Theres was nothing wrong with ian mckellen he was great, he's like a grandfather figure in the film, a mixture of being strict but at the same time gentle, wise and caring. Infact he is one of the finest british actors :)

  • anyone notice the date the video was made :P

  • @EP1CHEADSHOT Meh, just uploaded then.

  • i cried when i saw lord of the rings

  • @YawnGod Has he sucked a dick in front of you? Has he taken it in the ass in front of you?

No? Then why the hell should you care? He's an amazing actor and his sexual orientation doesn't matter the least.

  • @Gammeldamp But whenever I watch Lord of the Rings and I seem him smile at Frodo and touch Frodo on the shoulder...I always think...you know...stuff.

And once you think it, you can't unthink it :(

  • @YawnGod Try growing up, that might help.

  • @LowleyUK So you're saying...he doesn't take it in the ass?

  • @YawnGod Rule 34.

  • thumbs up if you wish middle earth existed

  • it's the beard!

  • i they ever want to Make Gandalf a black guy they should use morgan freeman. lol
