I just got a braumeister myself and I'm very interested in how to make really high gravity beers like barleywines. The instructions tell you not to add more than 5kg malt (for the 20L version), do you add more malt or do you just use less water?
Actually I add 6 kg malt pr brew. And as you can see at 3.14 I added 3 bags (=1.5 kg) of dry malt to the process. I have tried Recycling the mash to obtain higher gravity - NOT to be recommended - the pump wheel crashed...
Ok, so your efficiency is about 84% then. Adding so much malt to the pipe, do you notice any issues like the pump having to work harder or anything? I've just used up to about 4.7kg (with an efficiency of about 77-79%) so far so I'm curious. 6kg in a 20L batch will result in a beer of about 1.075 so that's pretty good
