There is something of an irony here. During the years of the Republican domination of Congress, Jim Bunning stood almost alone in his opposition to their out of control spending, for he warned that something akin to this could happen. Now, the very situation he warned would happen has come to fruition. Now, that he's fighting for fiscal sanity, he's being demonized.

OPEN LETTER TO SENATOR BUNNING

I am writing to ask you to reconsider the stoppage of the unemployment insurance extension. Both my son and I are unemployed, he since August and I since April 2009. Even though I have been struggling, I have managed to help my son and his family (wife and 5 yr old daughter) with their Cobra payments ($600 / month), while we both look for work. My son is diabetic and on an insulin pump, and it would be a disaster if he lost his medical insurance.

Perhaps Bunning thinks Michigan folks are lazy and shiftless and don't deserve unemployment extensions. Fact is, jobs just aren't out there(except for $7-$8 Wal-Mart and Target positions, which won't pay the bills).

Or maybe Bunning feels state governments, like Michigan's, are poorly run, thus he doesn't think unemployment benefits should come out of the federal governments money.

I am whole heartedly behind improving the living standards of all Americans. But we have to be able to pay for it. Just going farther and farther into debt while China eagerly buys up US debt is not good for us all in the long run. It's like someone buying a $500K house on a $30K salary and then losing their job. McDonald's, Wendy's, and Arby's are hiring, but you can't support a family working at those places.

GM and Chrysler were stupid for continuing to build big cars, even though the general public was starting to turn away from them.

GM and Chrysler's downfall started in the summer of '08, when gas was over $4 a gallon at many places. Because of that, folks simply stopped buying big cars, which ruined GM and Chrysler.
