@trailbreaker14 I no what's the point all that's gone do is come unlatched goin down the trail when u go over rocks I think the regular one is perfect cuz it swings open and latches better
Ours uses the original paddle latch as well as a secondary latch in the upper right hand side. To have it accidentally open on the trail would be impossible.
I installed this kit on my '05 TJ and I LOVE it! Easily one of my favorite mods, and it definitely holds the claimed weight. No rattles, no issues, the factory lock works without a single problem. Well, one small issue. The passenger side pin mechanism that holds that side closed is rusting. Any suggestions? Otherwise, it rocks!
The only difference in the tailgates is the 03 and up Wrangler have the air vent on the tailgate and steel hinges, where the 97-03 wrangler have the air vent on the hard tops and the tailgate hinges are made of cast steel.
I support this product to the fullest. I should have done my research before I commented on swags tailgate concept of not supporting a certain amount of weight. Please see his website for further details or questions on his products. Thanks Swag for redirecting me to your website,
Sorry, No harm intended. I''m just calling it like what I observed through the videos. Like I said, Its a very good concept and I would think maybe side mount cables will support the hinges even more. If not, disregard my comment. I do though support your products 100%.
I apologize if I offended you in any way. I''m just calling it the way I observed it through the videos. No harm intended. Like I said, its a very good concept. My opinion though, would you think maybe side mount cables would help support the hinges for safety reasons. I do your support your products 100%.
Head over to my website swagoffroad I sell the kit for $160 and your tailgate uses the factory locking mechanism so it will remain lockable and rattle free.
@Swagoffroad I like the fact that you can sit on it. with this I can take the chair out. will it get in the way of a on the bumper tire mount . I love this and the art work..
good concept, but I don't think hold the weight you stated. I noticed when sat on the tailgate you moved further in so you won't be embarrass when that hinges break on video.
You went to every video I posted and said the same thing. Head over to my website in the installation photos, there is a picture of over 400 lbs sitting on the drop down tailgate conversion kits.
really, I have seen people dong this for years, and they spend maybe $20 in materials, who the hell would want to spend over $250 to get the same results.
I got them from a truck stop Pilot. They cost $15 each and install with a 4" hole saw. Do a Google search on 4" LED tail lights it has been done a 1,000 times
Oh i am sorry. I could swear he said 160. That still does not leave room for a lady though. I do like this product though. I have a similar tailgate on my CJ.
I use it for holding my cooler, cook stove, baby changing table, help load my heavy dog, and when you stand or walk on the tailgate it helps to load items on my rack on top of the Jeep.
Today we were out playing in the snow, guess where the PB&J sandwiches were being assembled, Yup on the tailgate, plus you are protected from the elements by the glass over you head.
It is one of those items that once you use it you see the practicality of it.
dude! perfect work bech out in the woods. driveshaft broke! fix it on your tail gate rather than on the rocks or dirt... tons of uses, just like on a pick up.
so...wheres your spare? or how would you even carry one? it looks like you couldnt open the tailgate all the way if you had one on there. its really cool but not sure about effective
swag!

A fold down tail gate has many ideal uses, dinning room table, work bench, changing table, beer holder, cutting board.

Keep the toggle latch lubricated to prevent it from seizing up and or rusting. I have running the same toggle latch for 3 years with out any issues.

Neat idea. Too bad it isn't rated to hold shit. 260 lbs. just isn't much. Maybe I just need to lose some weight via shin removal. haha
