i used to have atrial fibrillation..i was 15 when i had the surgery and the doctor fixed it..i only had a slight sign of a possible worse condition..but it couldnt b recreated..i thank God for fixing me and making me take a step back and cherish sports a lil bit more
This a great learning tool video! Thanks to the 3 doctors for their introduction to atrial fibrillation. I know now what I must do. I knew this was common amoungst many ppl, but never knew it could cause blood cots for a stroke.
I found out today that i have it. Im 21 and have no symptoms and went two months with nothing happening. It happened first in february and oddly enough, right when they were doing an EKG on me today when i had a normal pacemaker checkup.
@sandeatingcontest My A-Fib was caused by an over active thyroid (Hyperthyroidism) It had started after or at least when I noticed it, right after my first baby was born. I was 21. I had lived with the symptoms until it almost killed me at 42 years old. I had an episode where my heart felt like it was gonna jump out of my chest and I fell down on the ground. My heart still flutters to this day. I have to take low dose aspirins to thin my blood.
meh.. its all interesting.. this was something my damn doctor (cardio) diddn't tell me prior to having my ASD fixed. come to find out heart surgery can cause this problem.. he put me on some blood thinners but i dont take em.. only once has it lasted longer than 24hrs and I went in and had it shocked (was pretty cool lol) sense then most episodes last 20mins or up to 4hrs.. my question is how long would it take to cause a blood clot that could cause a stroke? i'm healthy other than that.
@pinkfloydbf hey, you I genuinely empathize with you. My father was diagnosed with the same condition 3 days back and i'm super tensed. The doctors say his mitral valve is constricted. Is this normal in af? his left atrium is swollen and he has been subjected to warfarin and amiodarone as well. but the docs suggest valvuloplasty or open heart surgery for valve replacement. I'm darn tensed. Did u have any surgery? please get in touch with me on shaishavvadia@gmail.com
@pinkfloydbf I'm 28 and have had some recent frightening episodes. The other day I had an EP study performed to make sure it is atrial fibrillation an not WPW. Turns out it is atrial fibrillation. I am probably going to go back in a month or two an have an ablation performed, which seems like the best option to me particularly at such a young age. I am more weary about long term drug use than the ablation particularly when considering a drug as potent as amiodarone.
@pinkfloydbf I am also 22 yrs old (female) and have afib. I first had symptoms when I was 20. Sometimes I have it everyday for weeks in a row, and other times I won't have it for a whole week. It seems to happen to me most often right after I eat and right when I wake up. It makes me feel short of breath and just tired. My dad had afib starting when he was 20, so I probably got it genetically. I don't know how common it is for people our age to have this condition, but obviously it happens.
@orchidglow19 hey there! just read your comment! i also have afib , heart palpitations, racing heart...for which i sometimes need to got to a&e to get Iv drugs to slow my heart!.most weird of all im 19!I hhope you get better soon because i think i know what your going thru!

Does anyone know what causes it? It arises from abnormal rapid firing, as the video says, but what causes the abnormal rapid firing?
