Hi. What power amp are you using? Can you give me your settings for the ADA MP-1 pre-amp? I just bought one and I´m seeking this kind of tone. Is it stock or modded? Thanks!!!
you're playing is tasty!! you're a melodic player, i don't like shredding that sounds like a million notes but says nothing. good luck. the backing track sounds like "shot in the dark" ozzy osbourne!
140 likes and 7 dislikes? we need to find these 7 people and slap them silly...Dude, you are awesome! I am normally not a big fan of "guitar shredding" like this, but your playing has style and isn't just a big mess of scales and over distorted crap ( like a lot of shredding videos out here are ) ...Very well played..Awesome stuff man!
Ethan good day, great teacher you influenced me my music career and even buy an ADA mp1, which to me is one of the most amazing pre amps that already have launched, I wish you all best of luck in your career, I have a band WINNER called hard rock, has three songs here on youtube is just click banda winner who will find a warm hug from friend and number one fan here in Brazil Giovanni Carvalho guitar
I love the fact that you use an ADA. My instructor told me about it recently and I managed to find a mint condition ADA MP-1 Classic. I love it.
I Really appreciate that you are playing like the 80's shred guys. It's my favorite genre and I am always looking for new artists to study for new licks and phrases to help build my own song ideas.
This was very cool. I say "mojoplasma", cool that you are using a strat! I would like you too do a second solo album, but with vocals. That would be awsome. Keep up the good work man!
FANTASTIC playing Ethan. Great sound !!! What setting do you use on your MP-1? I still have one of George Lynch's original Microtube poweramps which DJ Ashba from now GNR sold me in 2003. Peace, -G.
@EthanBrosh hi just have a question i see your rack and just want to know i have a ada mp1 tube preamp and a boos gx700 and i want to use the boos as effect whit my ada but i dont know how to plug them whit my power amp (marshall jcm2000 dsl 100w) thnks
It sure is! I honestly don't remember the settings I had on this video...It actually doesn't really matter that much. The mp-1 always sounds like the mp-1...just get a guitar that fits well with it and play it super loud! that's what makes it sound good. have all the Gain settings around 7.5 then just play it by ear.
Hey dude, lovely playing! I hope do write an instrumental E.P. soon myself.. was wondering what you think of the ADA MP-1 for low end rock? Am putting to getha a rack for touring with.. I kinda like the modern low end riffs but at the end of the day I just want something that sounds okay and does the job live!!
the marshall 9200 power is bad ass and that's what I use live...IT WILL BREAK YOUR BACK THOUGH! lol! Mp-1 rules especially live in high volumes...that's where it really shines...Thank you bro!
hehe...thanks bro. I wouldn't worry too much about speed but if it's important to you, Just take some shred lick of either 6 or 8 notes that's on one string. Start slow and make sure you're really loose, stay as close as possible to the strings on both hands and then just master this one lick...It will get you far...then come and take a lesson from me and check out my album Out of Oblivion on Magna Carta Records ;-) good luck!
Hey dude, very nice tone and playing. I just bought an MP-1 off eBay 5 minutes ago and got rid of my recto recording Mesa because it sucked. Can you tell me if your MP-1 is stock?
My only suggested settings for the MP-1 is just play it freaking loud!!! I know it sounds like a simple advice but trust me that's the way to make it sound good. Just set the parameters to something that doesn't sound wierd, play it loud and you got it!
hey man really really sick shit I checked out your page I am absolutely loving it. your tone is unreal. what kinda setup are you using in this vid. Pre-Amp and power amp setup ?
Yo! Sorry, Just saw your comment now...It's just the Mp-1 and a tubeworks mosvalve poweramp. Plus some delay and reverb. Ok,,,A LOT of delay and reverb ;-)
Thank you very much bro!!! I appreciate it! My album "Out of Oblivion" will come out on Magna Carta Records on 3/3/09 and will be in stores and available on line of course. Keep in touch!
Yeah man, MP-1 preamp and a tubeworks mosvalve preamp on here. Not the best power you can get though. Live I play the Marshall 9200 power which sounds much bigger.
you are brilliant! nice work! I have a question. I understand you have eq in the front (i figured that would help fatten the tone to the MP-1). But is your MP-1 stock, or is it modded? I'm debating getting a Voodoo modded MP-1...again nice playing, and beautiful tone, love the strat.
Thank you bro! Let me put it this way, I have a voodoo lab MP-1 but it's collecting dust. The one you're hearing here and the one I play with live are stock. I think I had the EQ going here but it was so long ago I don't really remember what the deal was exactly. Anyway thanks for the comment! Rock on bro!
The BluesJamTracks Carlton bt costs £1.00 sterling available online. On Youtube it features the incredible skills of Guthrie Govan. Point. Why would you ask a known Guthrie trouble-maker for a copy of his bt?

Hey Rikki, Thank you so much! It was a pleasure meeting you a few weeks ago. I was very impressed with your skills, I think you should consider coming to Berklee full time at some point. I think you can benefit a lot from it. You're really telented!
how did you learn to do the howe style vibrato you do at 15 seconds? ive been trying to learn that but it isnt so easy...lol actually its fucking hard
Hey dude! I was just gonna ask you if you were talking about second 18 and not 15! I think Greg does it so good it's scary! I learned it years ago from George Lynch before I really gotten into Greg's music. It is hard to do well. I saw some of your vids and your technique is super good, I'm sure you'll have it no problem. How old are you BTW? Nice job and thanks for your comment!
Thank you very much! And yes, I went to Berklee. You should go there too, You're gonna love it and you're obviously gonna be a pro so you should think about it. I'm actually gonna be teaching there for a week this month. Good luck and keep on ripping!
haha awesome man, i want to go there, i plan on going to the guitar sessions summer program next summer, but my only worry is that if i do go to berklee, and I don't get a career in music than i'm left with no education besides high school and that kinda sucks
Oh holy! Awesome, Ethan! And cool to see "Newton, MA" as your hometown...I grew up in West Roxbury, right down the road a piece :)
Keep rockin'...it's pretty amazing how you pick out your notes with such precision, despite your incredible speed...something one doesn't often hear (except when listening to someone like Satriani :) Thanks, Ethan!
Joy, Thank you so much for your kind words, It means so much to me. I guess we used to be neighbours :-) Thanks for checking out my music! All the best!
Thank you SkateVicious! You're right I have been playing since I was 12. So only five stars for me??? ;-) just kidding...Thanks a lot bro! Good luck to you!
wow.. thot of studying there and take composition and mpe.. but dang its in boston.. and im in singapore.. so i took mechanical engineering locally instead.. lol! so.. what major is ur bachelor?
Thanks brother! Glad you liked it! Yeah there's a delay on it, Of course :-) you'll never find me playing without it lol... Not a pedal though. I use a digitech multi effects processor which gives me a stereo delay that goes between the two cabinets. You can't really tell how it sounds on youtube unfortunately.
How long have you bee playing man you remind of a friend of mine name Kevin shredd just like you I am freaking out because you look like him are you Kevin? And do you give lessons another thing I notice that most great guitar player have the bow at the top of the headstock what is that for does it help keep your other strings from ringing when you take a solo?
Yeah...Just go from the eventide to the return of your Randall head, This way you'll bypass its preamp and get the pure tone of the mp1. also just make sure you play loud to get the tone! :-)
Nice playing man. Love the tone. Cool to see I'm not the only ADA MP-1 into a Mosvalve user :-) I was curious as to what are you using for effects? Obviously you have delay on but were you using some chorus too? Using the Rockman Stuff for effects or do you have another processor? Keep up the great work!
Thanks man! I appreciate it! I have some reverb on there besides delay but no chorus on this one. I have a bunch of rockman stuff but the effects you're hearing on there are coming from the TSR 24 which can do anything. Keep in touch and good luck!
I have an mp-1 going through a mesa simul 295. I can't seem to get that sweet compressed lead sound at high volumes. Could you give me a few pointers with the settings you're using here? Your bends are really screamin'
Thank you...Maybe it's the Mesa getting in the way of those sweet leads ;-) Try using the mp-1 going to the power section of your amp, This way you make sure the preamp of your amplifier doesn't change your tone. Don't really remember the exact settings I used on this video. try having the two gains around 7. Have a lot of bass, Don't scoop the mids too much and you should be fine. Good luck bro!
Actually the Mesa 295 is a power amp, so no preamp to worry about! =D I think the problem might have been that for me to crank that monster up to volumes where it should sound really good would mean levels where my ears are no longer interpreting the sound the same as at lower volumes. It just seems to get thin and harsh at loud volumes. I should really try running the thing outdoors on full blast to hear what it's like on a high setting. I'll probably get an eviction in the process :P
Great playing Ethan!!! I love your tone and feel. I had an Mp-1 back in the 80's, and always loved it. I think I better get on Ebay and find one:) Keep up the great playing.
Nice brother, what are your settings on this ada patch ? I use stock ada, and sound close to my sound !

I wonder if you can actually get that tone with an ADA MP-1 because I have seen other vids, and they seem to have a shit load of gain

The ADA is a great pre-amp, but you have to set up in the right way. People put the valve's gain near to the max so it become very noisy and dirty.

Do you use a delay pedal/function for that sound? If so, what do you use?
Shanebyrne88 3 years ago
Thanks brother! Glad you liked it! Yeah there's a delay on it, Of course :-) you'll never find me playing without it lol... Not a pedal though. I use a digitech multi effects processor which gives me a stereo delay that goes between the two cabinets. You can't really tell how it sounds on youtube unfortunately.
Rock on dude!

This guy is like a less freaky version of Shane Gibson. Love it.

Thanks...Shane may have freaky hair but he's a super cool guy. We went to Berklee together.

And do you give lessons another thing I notice that most great guitar player have the bow at the top of the headstock what is that for does it help keep your other strings from ringing when you take a solo?

Dude, you're awesome, no need to say more. Do you have a cd out? I wanna buy it.

Thanks bro!
Yeah...Just go from the eventide to the return of your Randall head, This way you'll bypass its preamp and get the pure tone of the mp1. also just make sure you play loud to get the tone! :-)
Thanks

Nice playing man. Love the tone. Cool to see I'm not the only ADA MP-1 into a Mosvalve user :-) I was curious as to what are you using for effects? Obviously you have delay on but were you using some chorus too? Using the Rockman Stuff for effects or do you have another processor? Keep up the great work!
realdealblues 3 years ago
Thanks man! I appreciate it! I have some reverb on there besides delay but no chorus on this one. I have a bunch of rockman stuff but the effects you're hearing on there are coming from the TSR 24 which can do anything. Keep in touch and good luck!

great suond and great guitarist. how many rockman you use? how are connected with mp-1? do you use an overdrive pedal?
noricum69 4 years ago
Thank you sir! I have almost all the rockmans, At least all the good ones :-)
The only one I use along with the mp-1 is the rockman eq. Try hooking it up before the mp-1. Good luck with your tone!

Thank you for your reply. My rockman EQ is inserted in the loop of mp-1, while before mp-1 I use a rockman sustainor mod. 200.

I have an mp-1 going through a mesa simul 295. I can't seem to get that sweet compressed lead sound at high volumes. Could you give me a few pointers with the settings you're using here? Your bends are really screamin'
FretWanker 4 years ago
Thank you...Maybe it's the Mesa getting in the way of those sweet leads ;-) Try using the mp-1 going to the power section of your amp, This way you make sure the preamp of your amplifier doesn't change your tone. Don't really remember the exact settings I used on this video. try having the two gains around 7. Have a lot of bass, Don't scoop the mids too much and you should be fine. Good luck bro!

Hey man!
