  • Willie was right when he said Marty "is going to be great" :P

  • Yeah, I wanted Willie and Marty to end up together too. *SIGH*

  • i'm pooh

  • This is great acting from great directing!!

About time everyone sees what i seen in 96 when it came out!!

  • God I had such a crush on Timothy Hutton in this movie and I totally related to Marty's character being in love with him.

  • I know this girl who 14 and me and her are great friends.I have such wonderfully feelings about her and she said she hopes to see me one day when she turns 18.I feel bad about liking her since she 14 and i`m 20 but i get warm feeling each time i think about her.She acts everything like Marty did in the movie and i am can`t wait to met her one day.Sad how people judge others because society said it wrong when society over time has been proved to wrong about many things suh as slavery

  • I feel like those people from the 'Scarlet Letter" where naturally love is consider immoral and punish those from acting on natural human feelings.I feel bad about feelings i have for her.I promised her that i would wait her once she 18 and promised to care her until the day that i die.

  • @rockking05 Well I'm 24 and have passingly liked a couple 16 and 17 year olds in the past 4 years but never done anything about it. I think the laws right now are good, however they don't take into account age differences of only two years, or the fact that some people might really not engaging in anything sexual. there are those who hold out for moral, personal, or religious reasons.

  • unforgettable scene :)

  • 1:04-1:09 hahaha hilarious scene!

  • really wish they would find a way to make a sequel to this!

  • at 1:57 what song is she referring to? "and the ___ girls go dou dou dou..." , what song is that from?? thanks

  • @kaylalook "walk on the wild side" by lou reed

  • we can walk through this world together <3 c:

  • If I would ever met a girl like Marty, I would totally have waited for her.

  • Natalie Portman is really cute in this film.

  • @slovan,

You think she's really cute here? Watch The Phantom Menace. Bullshit film, but my god she was lovely looking.

  • This scene is so beautiful and true. Excellent writing for this part. And I love the music at the end too, it really brings it together. It's hopeless....and the way they make that sound is by moving your finger up the string of the guitar. It elongates the sound. :-)

  • so talented...this is amazing

  • My absolute favorite part of the entire movie..every fiber in my being wanted him to wait for her so badly..Natalie Portman was such a delight in this movie..she is easily the best thing about it..Ted Demme had so much potential as a director..its a shame he passed away.

  • in what year did this movie come out????

  • @happymari1

    1996

Now if they would just release it on Blu-ray. There hasn't even been an anamorphic DVD for this title.

  • not wat i wanted but cool

  • This is the movie where I noticed Natalie. Since then, she's disappointed me with the roles she's taken. V for Vendetta she just held her mouth open wide, Star Wars sucked, the Other Bolyn girl was a disaster, Closer was overrated and she was annoying. I will see Black Swan and hopefully I will love her again. We'll see.

  • @nadi1010 Yes, and now we have proof again (well, as much proof as an Oscar can provide). I will go see Black Swan and decide for myself, but I am glad the taint of the prequels on her image is finally wearing off.

  • @nadi1010 Black Swan wasn't all that great...so you might be disappointed in her again....

  • @doobeedoo58 I saw it last weekend....and I was. Disapointed that is :(

If anyone deserved the Oscar, it was Barbara Hershey as the mom...now she was scary!!

  • I can't be your pooh...

  • Proof positive that she could act...before the dark times...before the prequels...

  • @gaozhi2007 hahahaha

  • " I absolutely adore this movie... absolutely adore it"

  • She was a gorgeous little girl! Now she's a gorgeous woman!

  • Try Asian women **busizz4me.info**

  • Man i just saw this earlier today one of the better movies i've seen. sad tho at the end man i wish i could re watch it again.

  • what's that song at the end of this scene called, it's sooo beautiful! anyone?

  • @saundersisters Pete Droge & the Sinners - Beautiful Girl

  • @ReapDeathLP2 THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!

  • @saundersisters glad to help.

  • @saundersisters

I think it's just an instrumental version of Beautiful Girl - Pete Droge & The Sinners. It's not on the soundtrack.

  • Ohh... I love this scene so much. It's so sweet, but ends so sad. And I don't see any pedophilia in this.

I just love that musical cue from 3:35 to 3:48.

Great movie, too bad not many people heard about it.

  • @StriderEstel -im must find a copy of that music...awesome

  • @ungdad It's from that song "Beautiful Girl" by Pete Droge, it's one the soundtrack.

But that particular cue is nowhere to find and there's no score for this movie available. Too bad... :(

Been searching for it since I saw the movie over 2 years ago.

  • @theVanuals I`m not a pedophile...I just love de dialogue and the acting of natalie portman

  • I love this damn movie. God rest Ted Demme's soul for making such an underrated masterpiece of 90's proportions...

  • @CitySkin09 You got that right. This movie is an addiction to me every time it comes on. I must buy it.

  • natalie portman is such an amazing woman! no one else in the world that is like her

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie!!

  • What does "I'll be the laughing stock of the Brownies" mean?

  • @destroyedtheozone the brownies are a junior version of the girl guides which emphasizes the large age gap between them

  • Great movie... So many great actors in this movie and awesome soundtrack. Thank you for posting.

  • one of my favorite films , i still have it on VHS but cannot find it on DVD . i like the soundtrack too...

  • this scene is more touching & romantic than anything Natalie Portman did in the Star Wars movies.. her chemistry with Hayden Christensen was awful.

  • Thank God she had more smarts then he did. Pipe dreams are pipe dreams.

  • Nice film and Natalie steals the movie.

  • i can't find this anywhere!!! UGH.

  • "i cant be your pooh...." man that is my favorite scene in that movie. poor little girl, i cant help but feel sad for her....

  • Man i love this movie..

  • omg i saw this movie yesterday and it's so beautiful, i love this scene!

  • yeah, it seems sad, but 10 years aint nothing. youll see, he he...

  • Timothy Hutton has always been one of my favorite actors. So underrated.

  • Alas, poor Romeo, we can't do diddly.

    You'll go to penitentiary,

    I'll be the laughing stock

    of the Brownies.

But if your feelings for me are true,

    you'll wait.

    I just love that part!

  • @totyland99 I love this whole movie, so much that I can't NOT watch it every time it comes on. I just told my wife this morning it's like a drug to me. I don't know what it is about it really, but it really touches me and I always get a little sad at the end when Willy C is leaving and Kev says, "Stay cool man, stay cool forever." Great movie.

  • the best.

  • this scene is amazing, but I think the funniest is Mo's reaction.......priceless!!

  • why is this movie not available on Netflix?? hmmm.....

  • it's available now!

  • God, this scene gets me EVERY time.

  • This is a wonderful movie- very funny and sweet and smart! *However- I think he should have waited for her...lol.*

  • @missingmoonlight why of all the crappy movies constantly being rerun, is this never played?

  • @missingmoonlight I know!!!

  • One of the greatest scenes ever filmed! Brilliant!

  • Thanks for picking out the best scene in the movie!!

  • agree! mecwag, best scene of the movie... remember watching this and stuck with me all these years....

  • is the "beautiful girls can make you dizzy" scene anywhere online? if anyone knows can you send me the link! thanks!

  • Who was that guy that was looking at her wen she fall in the Timothy hands?

  • He was one of Timothy's friends, the one whom Timothy shared his somewhat "being inlove" feelings towards Natalie when they were drunk.. his friend actually laugh and seems could not believe that Timothy actually falls for a 14 year-old kid.. you should see the film.. its great. :)

  • This is like the most cutest little love story... i remember being in love with my brothers older friend when i was young. And yup i got over it...lol

  • Hahaha i now wen i was like 13 i was in love with my Brother Best Friend, he was 19 But now i dont like him anymore...Lmao

  • natalie portman is so cute

  • I fell in love with this scene.

  • ! We have a little age problem...!

  • beautiful scene and movie

  • this scene is insanely good stuff. so deep

  • Brilliantly written film. This scene is one of the greats!

  • I agree with everyone about this movie. Perfect cast, perfect writing; I love this movie so badly. Natalie Portman is by far the best actress to date; bar none.

  • this movie is one of my all time favorites how sweet.. and Timothy Hutton is just great

  • This is the NUMBER ONE movie of all times for me, because I can relate to the male characters more than in any other movie i've ever seen !!! It shows every perspective of how boys/men look romantically/sexually at girls/women.

  • This happen to me in real life. Only i waited 7 years.

  • comment me back

    SOMEONE TALK TO ME nB

  • One of the best scenes in the movie. A great film.

  • I cried at this scene. It's my favourite from whole movie, but very sad. I love how the music fits it at the end. Beautiful!

  • What lovely movie. So many wonderful actors, but to me it all revolves around this relationship.

  • Great movie - Great Scene!

  • so sweet.. really great film.. bittersweet..

  • This is such a good movie. I remember when my 14yr old self had a crush on a 20 something neighbor guy. I tried to convince him I was the one for him. I'm sure he was flattered. He flirted and backed me off at the same time..just like here in the movie. I was heartbroken for about 2 weeks when he moved away..the crush of a 14yr old doesn't linger. All but forgotten until I saw this movie..fun to see from "his" perspective!

  • yeah, i felt the like willie c once, even though the age difference wasn't, you know, illegal eh eh. i read somewhere that this sort of situation is quite common because girls tend to outgrow their males peers in puberty (so they don't quite live up to what they look for) and because some guys reach willie's age a bit disappointed about their female peers. but it's a natural phenomenon, even though it can cause real pain - but that's what makes you grow, right?

  • Yep..it's all part of growing up.

  • yeah. but still. that scene where willie and marty first meet... wow. it's very well written in a way that makes you think of all the women that you come across in your life and who would die to be able to make that impression on a man. but the reason i like the movie so much is that it's realistic - something that wouldn't be very believable if not for my own personal experience with someone very much like that. (we're great friends now, and i'm very happy with my tracy eh eh)

  • I wasn't as glib as Marty at that age. Girls are certainly more mature at 14 than boys, but not insightful usually. And men in their 20's don't usually appeal to young girls. Really, how would one relate? My crush started by the attention (read: neighborly teasing) that he dished out. In retrospect, I was just so flattered by the attention a good looking guy would pay me, a mere young teen girl! Fun to remember how awkward I was, though!

  • yeah, girls get the ability for abstract thought first, and what's more abstract than fairy-tale-wonderful-happy-ever-after-love? but i know exactly what you mean by awkward: in addition to hanging out in school, we talked a lot over the internet (IRC) - and she found those logs, recently, on her old computer. embarrassing isn't the word. neither is funny or disturbing. it's awkward, that's what it is. growing up is so so awkward. i wouldn't wish it on anybody he he cheers

  • Oh, the awkward things are the ones that make you smile later and they give you the insight you need as an adult. It's hard at the time and you wnat to wish it all away..but, it serves a good purpose. Everyone needs those experiences so they can mature. You just hope they add to the character and not become a reoccuring event!

  • you're absolutely right. that relationship was very important to me in so many ways that, as a young adult, it still serves as a frame of reference in defining my personality and daily conduct. it taught me the value of devotion, truly caring for someone so delicate and special, just for the pleasure of enjoying their company and friendship. don't know if you got that much from your next door neighbor, but it was certainly worth the while - and we both look back on those times with a smile.

  • This is a favorite movie on so many levels. It really gets at the heart of the many facets of the individual maturity process and of human relationships. I enjoyed all the characters individually at that time in their lives where they begin to reevaluate themselves, their goals, their relationships to one another and to their love interests in a very real way. It is such a well done movie. I think everyone can see a bit of their own growth in it.

  • yeah. they had a good set of characters. one wonders what could have been done if it was written today, with tv series so in vogue. it would have made a great series, don't you think? there would be much more to go over all those stories much more thoroughly. i doubt anyone could have enough of little marty or the paul kirkwood character. of course the writer did have his go at a series (october road) but that was really awful, unfortunatelly...

  • I never saw October Road, but I looked up the info about this movie and the writer. It was never a book and October Road IS (supposedly)the sequel to this movie. It's intent was to let us see the characters in more detail. It didn't say whether the series was still being produced. Interestingly enough, Scott Rosenberg did the screen play for High Fidelity, which is also a favorite of mine for the same reason as this movie, the relationships. I didn't know they were done by the same guy.

  • well, i don't know if it was meant to be a sequel, cuz the characters and places aren't the same. but there are certainly some reashes of BG's storyline. i saw the first season, and it really lacked a great deal for me to like it. very disapponting. anyway, what i read was that rosenberg tried to give an account of how his friends reacted to him writing beautiful girls, which i assume was loosely based on his own life and experiences. btw, high fidelity's a fav too, very uplifting :)

  • Both are good movies for women to learn about how men think and feel (and handle to some extent)...about relationships. It's been fun exploring this with you, edgarcaetano.

  • yeah, thank you, my pleasure. in fact, beautiful girls could be considered a boys' movie, but it offers a nice enough insight into what goes on in these little heads of ours eh eh, so there's something in there for you too. it does "let you in behind the curtain" eh eh. for more thorough approaches, there are have woody allen movies (my personal favorites), but this is definitely a sweet little movie, great for rainy cold nights, isn't it? cheers :)

  • Well, I think it's about "guys" more than for them. It does let women get a peek "behind the curtain" as Paul put it! It does men a great service if women like the movie because is shows a vulnerability that men don't usually let anyone see. Most women want to know that men do struggle with complex interpersonal issues, they they don't just callously dismiss people because it's too tedious do deal with. The movie shows men as they appear outwardly and inwardly in the struggle for balance.

  • ha ha :) you and i should start a blog. eh eh. well, i don't know how old you are but i'm sure you already know that, yeah, we men do sometimes get into some rather bleak stages in our lives. but i've learnt that there's always a reason behind our "emotional flux" and it's very important that people around us know how to patiently wait for it do fly by, their role is limited like that. and it helps to remove yourself from your town for some time, to get back on track. been there, done that :)

  • Ah...you've been there! You're right, a little space and back to your 'roots' along with some new faces help your perspective just like it did Willie's.

  • yeah. some new faces help too, if only for narrative purposes eh eh. and what do you think about uma thurman's character? my friend believes it's the movie pitch at the female audience. i just think it could have been more developed. like i said, a tv series would have been great..

  • I've pondered her character. I'm torn between thinking that she's a muse or the male fantasy personified for Willie and Paul. She has the WOW factor of a trophy (like Pauls models) and they get the opportunity to idealize her and use her to some extent to look at what they want, who they are, and what they think they need to make them happy. She's eye candy to the rest of the guys.

  • This is one of the greatest movies of all times - and the scene is best for keeping crying and laughing (Mo's look when he sees his friend with the 13 year old girl) so close together.

  • Great scene!

    I love Tim.

  • where is the pooh bear??

  • I remember this. It's true. Time destroys almost everything, making life an illusion.

  • I love this film so much. You have all those big stars in it and I think Natalie is the best actor in it!

  • i love this storyline in the movie. so real, so rare.

  • What hutton says is SO true. As beautiful as the thought is of these 2 together, it's a passing moment that's all.

I love the pooh reference...sad and great stuff!

  • Natalie Portman is great!

  • natalie's such a beauty. such a great actress and she looks great in those overalls :)

  • haha i remember this scene clearly.. i was also 14 back then.. and the minute he asked 'what do we do' was where i got excited the most.

  • I love their scenes together Timothy Hutton & natalie portman. I love the whole Movie.

  • I always imagined that they meet later in life and fall in love. Wonderful movie.

  • I always imagined they met later that night and fell in love when all those a-holes weren't there to judge them. although I think she was out of his league and would have broken his heart eventually:(

  • Natalie Portman is a great actress, does anybody know how hard it is to skate and saying lines in a loud tone while wearing heavy clothing.

  • waaa, i reallly really really want to watch this movie. i've downloaded the torrent, but dammit, no one's seeding! can someone please give me a link where i can watch this please? judging from this scene alone, im guessing its one of the best films ever.

  • er... dude, buy the movie, it's worth it

  • dude, if we had it here, i wouldve. its kinda hard to find, seeing that it was released over a decade ago.

  • i bought it online for $6! Best $6 spent ever. Seriously. This movie is AMAZING!

  • Wonderful scene. They both carry it off so well. Not a false note.

  • interesting

  • Tim Hutton, best there ever was.

  • This movie is so great... and I've always got a crush on Timothy Hutton so i can relate to this scene, lol.

  • I love this scene! And for all of you out there wondering it's from the movie 'Beautiful Girls' rated R from 1996

  • damn this is beautiful.

  • I am so happy to see something from Beautiful Girls on here. I think it's a very underrated movie. Everything about it was top notch. The cast was full of great performances and the story lines were all tight. What a shame that the director Demme passed away so tragically and so young! He died playing basketball for a charity event. Still, what a gift he gave the world with this movie.

  • Man I love this scene

  • Elope!

  • what movie is this?

  • Beutiful Girls

  • thanks

  • this is sad, and sweet

  • WUT MOVIE IS THIS

  • one of my favorite films too...and yes, one of the saddest scene too, this, and the "romeo and juliet, the dyslexic version" scene.

  • My favorite scene of this movie and one of my favorite movies. Natalie was awesome.

  • future film history.

  • "I'm form and you're not. I can not be your Pooh to your Christopher Robbins." Willie to Marty. Classic, I love this dialogue.

  • aww so cute, love this scene

  • this is one of the saddest scenes ever.:(

  • i love this.

  • Their relationship changed my thinking I love this movie

  • i had a crush on natalie portman in this movie;)

  • I had a crush on tim! ;)

  • Same here. I was so in love with here and I'm fucking 23. Its not sexual though. You know what I mean :P
