I loved Gran Torino, and it was my favorite movie I've seen this year, but it had too many flaws that you cannot overcome. The acting, and a lot of the plot just isn't good. I loved the song 'Gran Torino' during the end credits, and wished it won the golden globe, that is one of the best pieces of music I have heard in years.

Both of their work, what I've seen has been AMAZING. I've always loved Viola and am happy she's getting more recognition and just recently got kicked into Taraji's work after I saw "Hustle and Flow."

I did see TDK - three times. Heath was decent, but honestly this year had much better performances and films, and he doesn't deserve to win over others just because he's dead. TDK is a Batman movie, albeit a well done Batman movie, but so what? I'm not a Batman geek so I'm not preoccupied trying to glorify it on the internet. Philip Seymour Hoffman or Ralph Fiennes are my choices, by the way.

Hoffman could've played The Joker and acted circles around Ledger's performance because he's a better actor. He was great in Doubt, and I think he deserves to win. Ledger didn't win against Hoffman for Brokeback Mountain, why should he win for TDK? Lol. Ledger was decent, but it's The Joker... I think most people are allured by the character than the actual actor, and apparently sentimental pandering by wanting him to win because he died.

oh and thank you for backing me up. I'm glad there are some people that realize the difference between quality and over advertisement. A movie doesn't have to make millions of dollars in the box office to be good, nor does it have to be heavily advertised (not to mention re-released in theaters) to make more and more and more money.

why do so many people think the dark knight is going to get a best picture nomination? it was not a good movie. the only reason it was raved about was because it was one of ledgers last movies and if he didn't die he wouldn't be getting a nomination for anything. Heath Ledger is just winning awards because the HFPA and the Oscars want to please the masses, they know very well that their ratings would go down the drain even more if he doesn't win, same reason why The Dark Knight will be nominated for Best Picture.
It's no longer about quality and actually being deserving of the nomination for TDK and Ledger anymore, they are the perfect opportunity for The Oscars to reclaim a top spot on the ratings and I doubt they won't sell out and not use it.

Heath Ledger does not deserve an Oscar for TDK, give me a break. Just because he died of an accidental OD doesn't mean he deserves the award over actors who did way better. He would never in a million years have a chance if he were alive. Only Batman fanboys should disagree.
Much of these predictions were shit by the way, no offense, but having annotated everything sort of shows that. Slumdog will win Best Picture, and a crime will be committed if Mickey Rourke doesn't win Best Actor.

If your able to say that Heath Ledger (RIP) does not deserve the Oscar for best supporting actor then it's clear that you NEVER saw "The Dark Knight". Just curious which actor was "way better"?. I'm extremely curious to see the movie he's in.
Slumdog won't be praised and remembered as a masterpiece 10 years from now. "The Dark Knight" on the other hand will. It has everything a movie needs in order to win Best Picture AND has a guarantee of helping the Academy win back audiences if it does.

I did see TDK - three times. Heath was decent, but honestly this year had much better performances and films, and he doesn't deserve to win over others just because he's dead. TDK is a Batman movie, albeit a well done Batman movie, but so what? I'm not a Batman geek so I'm not preoccupied trying to glorify it on the internet. Philip Seymour Hoffman or Ralph Fiennes are my choices, by the way.

As for the better performances I'm sorry to disappoint you but Heath Ledger is pretty much guaranteed the Oscar NOT because of his death but because of the fact that he played his role so brilliantly.
I never cared for Batman until I saw "The Dark Knight". I didn't like "Batman Begins" all that much and wasn't that crazy about the older ones.

Hoffman could've played The Joker and acted circles around Ledger's performance because he's a better actor. He was great in Doubt, and I think he deserves to win. Ledger didn't win against Hoffman for Brokeback Mountain, why should he win for TDK? Lol. Ledger was decent, but it's The Joker... I think most people are allured by the character than the actual actor, and apparently sentimental pandering by wanting him to win because he died.
