Dude you have some bad luck. My car has 60k miles and not one problem. It has been beaten up too and is used. By sayin well engineered i mean amazing power out of small engines and 50/50 weight distribution. Take the new m3 for example 420hp out of a naturally aspirated 4.0L v-8 americans cant touch that. z06 need 6L to get 500. Also back in the late 70s early 80s when there were strict smog regulations an american 8.3L V-8 produced 147hp a bmw from the same time produced 170 with a 3L 6.
Well I thought that it was luck too, but I know others with different models that have been unreliable, but still, at least you haven't had any. However, I'll stick to Jags, Volvos, Range Rovers and maybe saabs. I know people with these who have had no trouble. (I know have a range rover). Yes American engines are inefficient, however, everyone knows this and without wanting to cause offence thats why nobody buys them anywhere apart from America.
Why put M3 wheels on what looks like a small engined 3 series? I'd have bought a 3 series M-Sport and left it at that. They look in very good condition though!
When ur only 18 it might be kinda hard to get a big engine 3 series. I am modding the engine though so whatever the car is still gonne be fast. Its a bmw so it still means it is a well engineered car.
Well you would expect them to be well engineered, however, after the sheer amount of faults that I had with my 2002 M5 in under 40,000 miles, I was not impressed and wouldn't have another. Still, good luck with yours. Before you ask, yes it did have a full bmw service history.

I mixed up some facts. It was a 8.2L cadillac V8 getting 190hp and the 3.0L got 176. That is some mad engineering skills.
