The other version, you see him grow up to be a well to do hit man and somewhat successful, so it eases some of the tension and takes the story into the realm of fantasy. This version is much more gritty, gives a much more harsh and realistic portrayal of such a person in such an environment without any kind of reconciliation or closure.
