  • Hey lucky tack , Hubert wasn't on how many more years

  • Well said" hooverhasit " well said ,This man along with "Chester " eased a spirit into my own soul that's hard to explain . A pure blessing , you'll hear me soon enough.

  • god bless you hubert. you were on my bucket list. i missed the biscuit and had a feeling i would not get another chance to see you for the first time in years. sadly i was right. fortunately you left behind a plethora of good music to sustain your fans in your absence.

  • Hubert just left us alone, he just died In december, but thanks to Mick Jagger and Keith Richard , they could afford the funeral's and we thanks them because we couldn't afford it, because he didn't die on sea but on land. And we will miss him so... The Bluesmen's of the seven sea's. And it would have kill us just to drop him overboard.

  • Sad, sad, day...

  • RIP.

  • R.I.P

  • RIP to a great blues man, you made great music and lots of folks feel good!

  • R.I.P. Hubert. You will be missed

  • Thank you Hubert, you'll always be missed for the treasure that you will continue to be.

  • RIP Hubert.

  • RIP 4th of dec 2011. Sad news. One of the greatest ever.

  • maybe somebody could ask who is the skeleton at the drums...well he's Levon Helm, a real musical master, The Band drummer and singer and formal member of the Hawks and Dylan's band in 1966 (during the Australian part of the famous booing tour '66)

  • for the people confused on who else is playing on the video, here's the list from Hubert's website:

David Johansen, Levon Helm, Jimmy Vivino and Mike Merritt

  • Theres a great east-german record from the 60s(?) with rare studio-takes of hubert sumlin - I wish one could put them on youtube...

  • Is it the ending for 'how many more years' the first song Sumlin plays?(Until 0:20)

  • cool vid - that dude at the end can *sing*! very wolfy.

  • I wonder who the white dude singing is - he cops howlin wolf pretty good. I wish sumlin had done somthing with tom waits.

  • @freejazztampa Sounds like David Johannsen. I know he played with Hubert fot a time. Johansen also sang (and still does) for the New York Dolls. he does in fact sing a good blues voice! check out his album David Johansen and the Harry Smiths for a bunch of old blues standards.

  • @freejazztampa wait a sec,.. i watched the whole vid. that aint David Johansen. nevermind

  • @freejazztampa Jimmy Vivino, who you may know from Conan O'Briens late night band.

  • is that Levon Helm on the drums?

  • @moco635 Looks like him, probably is!

  • 1:06 min - Тема крутая,раз десять прокручивал,жаль что короткая,какая жаль...Наши люди,блюзовые.+10!

  • hey...is that my dude Karl Latham on drums?? Hey brah!

  • which song he plays at 1:00 ???

  • he got extry

  • huberts great but these videos look like a fucking rip off.

  • A great guitarist.

  • if jimi did it well, you know someone else did it first. hendrix borrowed heavily from early electric blues, and country blues.

  • Hubert was Jimi's Favorite guitarist.

  • @wkg55

    buddy guy

  • Howlin' Wolf's music is extremely difficult to transcribe and play. There's always two or three distinct parts harmonizing together, and everything is ridiculously syncopated.

  • The riff @ 1:36-1:42 sounds like a tune Jimi did called Country Blues.

  • Comment removed

  • genious.

  • Hubert!!!! I'll pay you double what Wolf is paying you

  • @TripleCLUTCH hey man,I knew hubert in the 70,s and wolf paid him 200 bucks a show.I called wolf and set up a concert in St.Louis,he did me a favor and played the gig for 1200 and once the promoter had the paper he cut me out.I called Hubert in Chicago when Wolf died and he was pissed but watta ya do?But that,s what he paid hubert.$200 a show.

  • i hear more hubert sumlin in eric clapton's playing than anyone else he was influenced by

  • WHAT A TEASE, I WANT THE REST OF THIS VIDEO!

    Where can I get it?

  • World's greatest blues gtrist..NO Question!!!

  • SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic! He sounds the exact same on acoustic or electric, plugged or unplugged, LP or Strat. It's all him.

  • One of the greatest to touch a guitar.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen the essence of the blues

  • yes!!

    i adore this man!

  • this is great, a true bluesman

  • I Bluesman neri mi sembrano più caratteristici ed appropiati al genere.

  • Sumlin is a master bluesman. He is also a real gentleman, very modest and unassuming.I was lucky enough to meet him last winter. He can still play his ass off, too! A National Treasure.

  • @ManyGodz DITTO

  • @ManyGodz rip today

  • Thats Levon Helm on the drums.

  • Saw Sumlin live last june with Bob Stroger and Willie "Big-Eye" Smith.

  • Hubert gave me the 1970 Les Paul Custom that I play today...

  • why did he do that?

  • it's a long story. we were good friends at one point in time before his last wife died.

  • are you kidding me!!???

  • holy shit!

  • and then some my Zepplin brotha

  • yes! do u like zeppelin?

  • Yes sure, i thought we were already frynds

    Yo my Skinnard Brother too

  • whats the second song he plays???

  • killing floor i believe

  • much thanks

  • more! what a guitarist, i can hear where mike bloomfield got his inspiration

  • No pick, eh? Did he never use a pick?

  • He used to play with a pic until Wolf sent him home to learn to play without it - the "right" way.

  • Coming to Truro Nova Scotia Aug. 8,9, & 10th

    Yea Ha

  • ...and I will be there in full glory...

and loving every minute of it. Hope it compares to last years festival...Right

  • " This guy's really good,thank's."

  • I met Mr Sumlin a month ago. It is the musical highlight of my life. He was a true gentalman. I know his nephew Gary Martin who is a great musician and entertainer. Gary's band the Heavenly Blues where playing and when Mr Sumlin entered the room the packed house gave him a standing ovation. Even though he was heading for the airport he made time to sign autographs and have pictures taken. I was in absolute awe of the man and felt like a little kid meeting his hero. Thanks for the music MR SUMLIN

  • the singing guy in "Evil" almost does ruin the song. But Hubert rescues the situation

  • Here on "Evil" Hubert gets that KILLER vibrato that was his trademark. What a sound this guy has! Raw, dirty and supernaturally chilling especially when he uses reverb as well.

  • Freaking amazing! Hubert is really a light house! His touch is unmatched and when he's inspired and in the groove he cannot be matched. Amazing! No wonder Wolf saw the talent in him.

  • is that levon helm on drums?

  • Very much so.

  • Wow he can rock that acoustic.. Thats very impressive!

  • Listen to Hubert's solo on "Louise." Incredible!

  • goodfoo; That's so true. Also on "Tail Dragger" and a song called "Neighbors". Hubert's spooky guitar tone used to send chills up my spine ..his sound was years ahead of time. Matt 'Guitar' Murphy had a similar spooky sound when he was with Memphis Slim in the late 50s except Matt used a Gibson-ES 345. I think (?) Hubert used a Les Paul for those legendary Wolf records. I could be wrong though.

  • Lstening to the guitar tone on Wolf's "Three Hundred Pounds Of Joy", it sounds a little like a Strat... :-)

  • HenfieldWill; It could be a Goldtop Les Paul with P-90 pickups. P-90s, being single coil, sound abit like Strats. But there are early photos with him playing everything from Fenders to Kays to cheap Jap guitars. Whatever he plays he still acheives a unique sound.

  • HenfieldWill; Yes, you are absolutely right. It was Wolf's own white Strat that Hubert played on "300 lbs".

  • its a single coil les paul

  • hey! Thats jimmi vivino from late night with conan o' brien! whats he doing there?

  • Same as in Conan. Playing guitar.

  • just an american gem !!! in every sense of the word ! I'm sure Hubert wasn't perfect, but I am sure he has given this world much more than we could ever give him. We should all express our love for him while he is with us now, and not waiting til he's gone to recognize this true pioneer and gentle soul.

  • Hell I'd take Hubert's imprefections in my playing anyday! Hendrix is known to have sited Hubert as one of his influences. Sad that this great guitarist is only known by a few who really appreciate good music. The guy is a truly gem as you state!

  • the other guy is Conan Obrien's guitarist in the Max Weinberg 7

  • Why only ten seconds of "Hidden Charms"? Hubert played the single greatest up-tempo blues guitar solo of all time on the original version of that song.

  • he's already is in the same place as the others howlin' wolf would agree

  • hubert is one of the greatest blues guitarists-musicians and he created one of the most unique guitar sounds ever. he is also a truly wonderful human being. everyone of the english blues guitarist who are now famous and rich were "schooled" by hubert. clapton especially took a lot of hubert's signature style and riffs. hubert is a treasure of black american culture. he is also almost totally overlooked and ignored which is unforgivable.

  • I`m with you he should be in the same place as

B.B King,John Lee Hooker and all the great ones

  • DITTO!!!!.....I've made it my lifes mission to cop(steal) all the licks and rythms of Hubert. Breaks my heart that this guy isn't a household name. Never met the guy but I love him just the same because of were his playing takes me.

  • Hey, SRV and a whole lot more guys think the world of Hubert. He is great.

  • Does it really matter?

  • does what really matter?

  • Hubert Sumlin-Nov.16/1931 Greenwood MS. Adore his razorsharp playing in Wolf's band. Huge influence to the "youngsters", like Clapton and Stones.

  • hey its "La Bamba" kick ass hahaha

  • One of the most underrated players of all time, Hubert is also a real sweetheart!

  • you cant judge the sound by that low quality vid...

  • Bwana Makubwa

  • is that the guitarist from conan?

  • Yeah!

  • Is he using that roland jazz chorus which stands behind him?

  • I have the pleasure of seeing Hubert daily, in my opinion he is one of the nicest men on the face of this earth. #1 class act

  • Hubert has a much wider pallette of melodies and phrases than other blues guitarists like B.B.King, Buddy Holly etc., who keep repeating a few notes throughout the song.

  • Hubert is one of the real players....great touch, the real ones usually played with only their fingers, no picks-sure as hell no flatpickin' fools among them!

  • hey did u hear the interview with hurbert. he said he useto us a pick then wolf told him not to use it. Hubert kept using it and wolf fired him. Then he stoped using a pick and wolf took him back:I)

  • Not necessarily true.

  • he's great

  • BABAYA SELAM DAMARA DEVAM

  • Which song are they playing at time= 1:40?

  • Forty Four Blues

  • I could listen to nothing but Hubert on the guitar all day

  • Hey Jimmy, Please tell Conan that the Max Weinberg 7 has just been replaced by the Hubert Sumlin Quartet...that is Hubert, Levon & Mike & you! Great stuff man!!

  • Awesome! I wanna get that instructional video!

  • Hubert is the best of the best. Ain't nobody that can touch that!

I mean, Jimi, Stevie, Eric, Jimmy (Page), Jeff... the list goes on: they all point to him for major influences.

I can only hope i can get a chance of seeing him play live one day, or become half the guitarist he is.

  • Is that Levon Helm on drums?

  • Fantastic! What is this from? Can you buy it somewhere?

  • I saw Hubert playlast month and he still has it.

  • And, for my next trick, I will play Key To The Highway

on the G String and using only a mentronome as accompaniment.

  • YEAH - that's great!

I've seen him on stage in 1980, in Mainz (Germany) with the American Folk Blues Festival.

    THANKS!

  • Hubert's da man !!!!!!My hero

  • Great footage Hubert is a true innovator as well as the underated Jimmy Rogers.

  • that guy got soul for sure

  • Ol' Hubert still got it after all of these years.

  • FYI, On "Evil"...Thats the great Levon Helm on drums...

  • is that jimmy vavino

  • Dude, that's what I was thinkin'

  • no dumbass its hubert sumlin
