"Because you can't download it..." Really? Dude artwork is getting more and more important. Back in the day blank CD's were passed around with albums on them.. You can download artwork, sir, you can indeed. I wouldn't go for a torrent unless it had artwork.
I like how they're all laughing before the interview even begins. That's a good omen, as far as interviews go, in my eyes. And goddamn, I thought it was existentialism to.
Does Baroness acknowledge the influence of Mastodon? Because maybe the similarity is just coincidental.
In any case, the songwriting in Baroness is way too good to simply dismiss them as a Mastodon clone. I love them both. It's bands like these that keep the metal spirit alive.
OMG YOU GOT THE GUY FROM PIG DESTROYER TO DO ART WORK WOOOOOOOOOOO!, the interviewer is a dork and needs to go byebye, and possibly stop looking like eric clapton
@topraman519 haha, i have 10 times the sense of humor of most people buddy, and i was taking about the interviewer...we DO NOT need more dorky interviewers in metal...and i wouldnt really call baroness metal either
They're both from Georgia. They're both Sludge Metal. They've toured together. They were on the same record label. Of course they are going to sound alike. GET THE FUCK OVER IT. BOTH BANDS ARE EQUALLY FUCKING AMAZING.
Why the penis is everyone so caught up on wether or not they sound like mastodon...? they are kinda similar but theyre still far enough apart to not really need comparing...just enjoy both theyre equally awesome!
Yes early Baroness did remind me of Mastodon. My band at the time opened up for them and the Sword in Austin in 2004 and I definitely heard a little Mastodon in their sound. That is no longer the case now that the "Red" album has come out.
Well on the surface they do have some obvious similarities, their early eps were pure Mastodon worship but on "The Red Album" I think they started showing their own character. They're definitely more rock oriented (at least before "Crack the Sky" came out) and theres a Southern Rock vibe in their melodies that you don't normally see in Mastodon.
The next album I think will distinguish their character even more.
I'm not trying to insult you, but have you listened to a lot of Mastodon? Blade catcher and Meglodon are 2 songs off the top of my head that have some bluegrass ownage licks in it just like baroness. They sound similar because they are in the same genre. Sludge metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music that fuses doom metal and hardcore punk. In addition, it sometimes takes inspiration from sources as disparate as industrial music and Southern rock. I do agree that the red albums is different tho
My friend.. the last thing I want you to do is explain to me what Sludge is. I told you on the surface both of them play Sludge obviously but you mentioning that they DO SOUND like Mastodon tells me that probably you haven't dived into this genre well enough to see the difference.
he supposedly left the band to pursue a career in law, but he's still playing music with a guy we went to school with. baroness is from my hometown and we all went to high school together
i saw them with opeth in late october. they werent bad, but i didnt like them that much. but i heard some of their recorded material, and they are much better live. High on Fire however, was REALLY good
i went to school with allen and brian in radford. Brian used to play in a black metal band called Accursed Dawn. Baroness started playing in the Blacksburg area. Crazy how successful they have gotten.

They do resemble Mastodon a little, but they have their own style and are... better!
